  1. The real problem, on Is Finding Security Holes a Good Idea? · · Score: 5, Insightful

The real problem in software security lies in the design of the software itself. No amount of patches and service packs can secure unsecure software. Instead to be secure it has to be biult that way from the ground up. These findings seem to make sense in this context beacause patching software doesen't change the fundamental way it works.

Nice idea but here is my grim outlook on it. This device does not have 2 avancements against ither a cell phone or an iPod. I would refer you to the article titled the 10 biggest tech flops. Or something similar to that. "Products have to have at least 2 benifits and 1 drawback only to be commercialy successfull" A device that does more, or a device that does lots of stuff but not very well. Now, if there was a phone that did the three functions then that would be a good product!

  9. Invalid Pattent on Microsoft Receives Patent For Double-Click · · Score: 1

This is an invalid patent because computers other than ones running windows (namely macs) use this to open programs as well. Its like trying to patent the caps lock key or the @ symbol. What the fuck is going on in this world, is Microsoft going to start suing apple for patent infringement now?

All I can think of is how my mother used to go on her email account and find the most disgusting spam messages imaginible. I definentley think that people should be held liable for things like this! However the reason that she got in this situation in the first place was beacause she was on windows with and wasn't carefull with her email address. Avoiding spam is common sense on the part of isp/company AND the user! I think if users are being bombarded by spam, especially pornagraphic on the fault of the isp/company then there has to be accountability. Just remember that if you use common sense then you might not have a problem with spam at all.

Sounds like a good idea, if only there was a daemon based distribition for OSX. That would allow the program to run automaticially in the background with no action on the user's part other than the installation itself. Once this comes out for OSX I will use it.

It looks like virus writers have switched to an open source model that is quite effective for attacking PCs. Just furthers the proof that open source programming really works. I use a Mac so I haven't had any problems at all. Security through obscurity? Nah- if that was the case then PC hackers would and would be able to make viruses that messed up Macs And linux boxes. And its not that simple to do that given there security minded design. PC users- look at it this way; they are going easy on you, it would be just as easy to design virii that simply deleted all of your files and erased your disks!
