Another storytelling masterpiece from Bungie, much like Marathon. That game gives you a feeling of depression in the first few levels, like you're actually one of the soldiers faced with the bleak knowlege that you can't stop the Fallen from wiping out civilization. The levels were well designed. An all around great game with a really engrossing story. The second one was good, but not quite as good as the first. The third one was a pungent pile of shit, but Bungie didn't make it. Screw Mumbo Jumbo for wrecking that game.
Marathon 1 and 2 had the best storylines I've ever seen in a game, and I've played a lot of games. Durandal's rampancy was particularly good. Marathon Infinity's storyline was disjointed and too screwy to enjoy it. That one was by far my least favorite of the trilogy. But Marathon had so much too it, and it was a fun fps for the day to boot. I really got into those games, and even got partway through my own sequel using Forge and Anvil, their map/physics/graphics creation tools.
Another excellent one was American McGee's Alice. There wasn't a whole lot of story, but it has to be one of the most masterfully done games I have ever played. Creepy, atmospheric, and riveting. I can't wait for their Oz game to come out.
I heard quite a bit about wireless firewire a year or two ago, but it never got out of the lab. I wouldn't bet the farm on this until it starts bearing some realy fruit and the cards hit the shelves.
OpenGL has been languishing for years. It's about freaking time they gave the spec a nice big update. I'm a mac guy, but I have to admit that DirectX has a much better level of optimization than OpenGL does. Hopefully this new spec will make it's way into Mac OS 10.4 and give Macs a much needed boost in the graphics arena.
Seeing as how Halo was inspired in part by Ringworld. Not bashing Halo. Bungie usually gleans a few ideas from books. There was a book mentioned (can't remember the title. Black something) that had several bits in it that were strikingly similar to the Myth series. Well, Myth 1 and 2. 3 was a stinking pile of shit and not made by Bungie. Even Marathon drew a few ideas from a book called, you guessed it, Marathon. And I'm off topic.
"While Apple's sales of $6.2 billion last fiscal year were nearly unchanged from 1999, profits plummeted 90 percent to $69 million, from $601 million four years ago...Jobs' mass-appeal strategy has crimped the company's historically high profit margins. Apple's net profit margin is just 1 percent. That's down from 10 percent four years ago."
Oh. My. God. If you try to compare ANY computer manufacturer's profits four years ago to their profits now, they WILL look bad. Why? Because the tech boom was in full swing four years ago! The tech market is recovering from the burst bubble, but it's nowhere NEAR what it was then! Whoever wrote this drivel needs to pull his head out of his ass. Seriously. That quote is sheer ignorance and utter idiocy.
No, try $50 every 2 years or so. The guys at iPodsdirtysecret are tards. I've cracked open several ipods. It's not difficult. I have a first gen 5 gig model that still gives me 6 1/2 hours of juice. Not the original 10, but still adequate, and I could grab a new battery for $50 from a third party developer, not the $90 battery from Apple. No battery lasts forever. Try again, dumbass.
...And all of Grant County, Washington. It's the middle of nowhere, but our PUD made bank selling cheap hydro power to California during the crunch. Now I have a fiber optic connection run right up to my house. It becomes a 100Mbps Ethernet connection from there. And I get service for $30 a month! I've clocked downloads at over 4MB/sec before. The only problem is uploads. The fucking PUD is charging the service providers out the ass for the amount of upload transfer, the idiots. There has also been widespread corruption in the Grant County PUD. My upload speeds have been capped at a puny 256kpbs/sec! That's unacceptable, but the PUD has the service providers by the balls. I guess price gouging will happen whether it's run publicly or privately. Damn government. Grant county could become a major technology center for Washington. Cheap power, cheap real estate, and if we had cheap fatty broadband, we'd be set. But the fucking PUD is too busy jacking up the prices and taking kickbacks.
As it's been said here, Wine is not an emulator. The reason it works as well as it does is BECAUSE it's running on x86 hardware. Having it emulate x86 is going to really bog it down. I seriously doubt it will work better than VirtualPC. However, if they can get hardware vidoe acceleration working, then it might just be worth it.
Why? I pay $30 a month for a fiber optic connection (Static IP. Dynamic is cheaper) with a 100Megabit cap. I've clocked it at 58Megabits. Why? I live in Grant County, Washington. It may be a podunk nowhere, but the county PUD made bank selling cheap hydroelectric power to California during the crunch. Now they're laying fiber to all businesses and residences. It rocks like nothing else. Moses Lake (The biggest town in Grant County, about 20,000) may be in the middle of buttfucking nowhere, but I don't know how I'm going to leave!

Now we need to perfect the genetic technology so that Spider Man can fight him off when he shows up and starts trashing New York.
I imagine that when this actually hits the mainstream, they may come with quantum cryptography which would make it impossible to add a backdoor.

You have way too much time on your hands. Get laid. But it's funny nonetheless.

Dammit, you beat me to it! Let the Old Ones come!

I knew MS was still using BASIC!
