    Here, we used this when they slapped 'luxury taxes' and 'gas guzzler taxes' on full sized sedans and station wagons. Everyone jumped in pickup trucks and SUVs. Once Congress recognized the unintended consequences*, they cancelled the taxes. But nobody switched back.

    *They briefly tried raising the GVW needed to qualify as a truck. Enter the Lincoln Navigator and H2 Hummer. 'We'll raise it even more'. Manufacturers built vehicles based on the Kodiak chassis and similar. We can move up scale faster than Congress can write laws. Someone Photoshopped the next possible step and cooler heads prevailed.

    We need to start leaking news stories about how another half dozen homeless were killed in the jungle last week. And how well the SPD program of torching tent camps is going. Pictures of (fake) dead bums floating in Elliott Bay.

    Maybe. But then they are publishing an opinion. And that will attract the scrutiny of all of the voting and campaign rights regulators. Equal time and access rules may kick in. Safe haven publishing exemptions may be lost. Sounds like a mess that even Zuckerberg wouldn't want to get involved with.

    And if you actually try to make some concrete suggestions that don't agree with crazy, the whole thing becomes a screaming match.

    Carbon sequestration through reforestation: Good. But only if its forests in the Amazon where we can funnel money to indigenous people (and Al Gore). If ADM comes up with a GMO tree that grows faster and gobbles up more carbon, no sale. The climate crisis people just retire to their corner and whine. If the climate is a real problem, then we can't afford to ignore ideas that don't fit some secondary agenda. On the other hand, if we do rule them out, then maybe climate wasn't as bad a problem as some claimed.

    People become disabled

    Then they shouldn't have any problem documenting their disability.

    It's one thing to send letters out to people who might not be aware of the program. But to base loan forgiveness on a simple database join could easily lead to some errors and people getting out of loan obligations. It might also miss some people who are legitimately disabled but not 'in the system' properly. Send reminder letters to everyone with a loan and tell them to get their documentation together and have their loan forgiven.
