    You think Snowden was a unique case? Not by a long shot. The only difference between him and many other people scraping up NSA data is that he released it to the public instead of handing it to some buddies in exchange for Hookers 'n Blow.

    I don't see any freedoms being preserved here.

    Sure, there are lots of nasty people like pedos online. And I support law enforcement in their reasonable efforts to remove them. But aside from soothing my conscience, whether some people are downloading kiddie porn or not doesn't affect me.

If the FBI or local law enforcement do the searching and, as a result, identify military personnel who might be in violation of the UCMJ (which may differ from civilian law), then by all means, turn his name over to NCIS. But lets not let civilian law enforcement off the hook for letting the civilian creeps slide. Our local cops have looked the other way on too many child molestation cases because, "Aw shucks. Its just some good ol' boys havin' fun."

    The USPTO has experienced all three problems, and financial investors in lots of different tech companies have paid dearly.

    That's the principle behind government: They play with other people's money, other people's intellectual property, other people's freedoms. So when they f*ck up, other people suffer.

    It's called sovereign immunity.

    They were trying to correlate educational attainment with genes.

    That should have been easy. If daddy is successful, you get into the best schools.

    Perhaps this demonstrates what a lot of people already suspect: If daddy spends his entire life at the office, making money, odds are he's not really the daddy. Better to correlate intelligence with the pool boy.

    Perhaps. But part of the evolutionary process is some sort of filter to select the most valuable mutations above others. I just don't see any evidence of that in modern society.

    So what's good for the prime contractor (Boeing or SpaceX) is bad for the customer (NASA). That doesn't make sense.

    Unless of course all the 'creativity' and 'innovation' really came from the subcontractors in the first place. And the primes (Boeing, I'm thinking of you) serve only to 'take a piece of da action' out of the funding stream.

    able to do it promptly, safely, and not driving like a zombie idiot.

    Then you will not give officers probable cause* to cite you for an initial offense. And so will not be subject to the installation of this blocking app.

    *One aspect of texting (or performing any other questionable activity) while maintaining proper situational awareness sufficient to drive is not doing it in front of a police officer.

    But either direction may have turned out to be viable. So at this decision node, the probability of life would be 1. On the other hand, given an initial equal distribution of forms, had one been non viable, the other would have out-competed it.

    What we need to look for is what the probability of local maxima or dead ends is. Where some process is preferred at that point and is selected. But for which more advanced branches do not exist.
