The neurological deficits of drinking (and using many other drugs) persist long after blood levels have dropped to zero. So either develop tests that measure actual impairment (and bust a lot more people) or just admit that so many people are impaired but sliding under the limits that we may as well just let them drive.
... of technology putting people out of work. In my day, we would have had George Zimmerman patrolling our neighborhood for suspicious activity. On the other hand, Ring doorbells don't shoot. Yet.
That means that construction workers are going to have to place beacons.
The power to the hospital is out. A tree fell across the lines.
"Sorry. But we don't have our beacons with us. And we can't push an update to The Cloud. Because a tree fell across the lines and communications are down. You'll just have to wait."
a level 5 vehicle will simply refuse to go anywhere it doesn't understand
Suits me. Just keep those shitboxes off the roads. And good luck surviving through even a minor storm when a bit of high water or some (otherwise navigable) debris falling in the roadway keeps people housebound and starving to death.
"Release on recognizance" is a thing in the USA as well. If the judge determines that there is a good likelihood of the defendant ever showing up for their court date on their own.
I'm just surprised that this kind of navigational problem wasn't made a part of the baseline autonomous car requirements. You might think that unmarked, poorly mapped roads are part of a rural setting. But we've go crap like that right in town. And self driving cars are going to have to deal with it.
I couldn't find that anywhere in the Constitution/Bill of Rights.
Three levels of government is more than sufficient
Three? Where did the third one come from? There's Congress and the Federal government. And there's the States. Anything else you've got you can thank your state for.
And homeowners covenants aren't governments. They are contracts between you and your homeowners association. That you freely agreed to when you bought your house.
The world was taught a lesson at a place called Nuremberg
You burn the surface of the cedar yourself (it looks great)
It might not look great to your homeowners architectural committee. You know, those old farts with nothing better to do than drive around and fuss over different shades of brown.
There is nothing HOAs do that can not be done through local government
They don't work through local governments. Covenants are enforced via civil suits and contract law. Homeowners agreed to be governed by covenants when they bought in a development. Covenants that are written and enforced by the worst of the neighborhood busy-bodys.
You should talk to a constitutional lawyer to find out just how highly our legal system holds contracts even in the face of contradictory local, state and federal laws.
Some HOAs will demand that you only install/replace roofs with cedar shake. Can't use tile, metal or asphalt. Because "Muh aesthetics!" And in spite of houses burning down right and left because embers land on flammable roofs, not one fucking politician has ever overruled an HOA. So just move into a neighborhood that prohibits solar for similar reasons.
British cooking.
Virtually nobody will be able to drive.
That suits me. We are a long way past the point at which we should have been culling bad drivers and using them to create a demand for public transit.
Elites don't ride underground. That's for the Morlocks. The Eloi ride on monorails.
Three Laws of Robotics.
Think global, eat local.
We serve only the finest New York City rats.
Yeah. But it's also a joke at the expense of people who have absolutely no sense of humor.

"Shoot straight, you bastards! Don't make a mess of it!"

Thank you Jesus!!! That'll be $99.95.

Screw over the exploiters by not committing any crimes and thereby reduce demand for their services. That''ll show them!
