No no, its the fact that it has 'for Playstation 2' which has all the panties in a twist.
See, if it just said 'With the release of GTA III' no one (myself included) would care. That little grace note has to many implications not to taste sour.
If it actually installs software without asking, they deserve some kind of large lawsuit
Correction: If this is true it's a matter of time until they are sued. Especially if they fail to provide any information on the CD that there is software being installed.
I really am. But in reality, the thing should have been a surprise announcment. Giving Nintendo the heads up that a huge dick was heading striaght for their proverbial monopoly was not the best of things to do. Now I've got two portable systems coming out within a year that I'd be absolutley more than happy to buy if I just had the money.
However, the promise of graphics AND innovation beats the ability to buy movies I already own.
In reality the system that does the best in the next generation depends sqaurely upon which one appeals more to the people who drive sales: 12 year olds. That said, I hopefully i'll be proven compeletly and utterly wrong.
They were cancelling a product because they realised it sucked
I amuses me the way random Slashdotters rip into Microsoft for being clueless about business
In order. First off, the public was never told that this product -sucked- until they cancelled the game. In fact, the same people who now say that it did not meet thier criteria thought that it was in fact the bee's knee's a few months ago.
Granted, you should never really listen to these people, but we knew that we liked what we saw. That is why the attack was on the -presentation- and how it could affect the perception of MS insofar as to what they're really up to with this.
Secondly, its is very, very hard to not point out the facts when it comes to the Xboxs' performace in Japan. It is not good and should not be treated as 'newcomers folly'. This is a multibillion dollar corporation that bungled a multibillion dollar opportunity. That is fact and nothing will change it, not blaming the market place, not cancelling games, not realizing 3 years later that 'oops, this might have been a mistake'.
There goes the sole reason I wanted Xbox live.
Seriously though, this shows if anything how immature in the Industry microsoft actually is. They've been hyping this game for almost 3 years now. I mean, this was a major presentation at last years E3. I won't say that I didn't see something like this coming with TFLO being a complete no show this year, but jesus. To cancel the game when it's so close to being finished?
The reason I say it shows immaturity it becuase this game has a fan base in the US and it hasn't been released yet.So of course its being marketed towards Japan first, the land thats completely over saturated with MMORPG's. It might not be as big as MS wants for a MMORPG, but since Xbox live pretty much only cover shooters and sports games right now, they're limiting the subscriber base to people who only want to play those types of games; Games which are intrinsicly[sic?] better played with other humans who can be made fun of face to face. (Granted, there are some exceptions, but those have only recently started to arise). Back on the point about this being launched in Japan, the Xbox is obviously not doing as well as hoped over there. Hello? Mr. Balmer? Can you pay attention and maybe release the game where you have people buying your system? Thanks.
To show this game for as much has been shown and then throw it away suggests that MS is starting to think about how much money they are really losing. Unless Factor 5 has been lying to us and the game was horribly incomplete, this is a very, very bad message.
"I don't own a GBA and didn't plan on buying one for this purpose or for any other."
I think that he saw this game as a marketing ploy to sell the GBA's ability to link. Now I know thats not how SquEnix designed the game, but that is how Nintendo pursued it when it went through marketing.
I've already seen something similar done though. Me and a friend got our GC's together and played Mario Kart Super Circuit Side by side on a WideScreen TV with the GB-Player.
Thats a special kind of awesome though. I didn't realize that you could trick Crystal Chronicles into thinking the GB Player was a GBA. I'm going to have to try it with my friends now.
The Original. You know. The first 400 hours of the other's that came out.
I miss that game so much. Maybe it's becuase I played it for the last 6 months before I went to college and had to give it up, and thus have attached this horrible nostalgia to it which rose colors everything. Maybe its becuase I actually made real life friends thanks to that game. Maybe its becuase I remember playing with friends from the GIA before that message board died.
The game was simple in execution and design, the learning Curve for PSO was well within even the casual gamers spectre of grasp. There was no 'how do I wipe my ass' comments, since the lower level functions where easy like that.
The story didn't try hard either, but did enough so that you felt connected. You're on a planet because the only you left died, the colonists ahead of you are dead, kick the aliens ass's. Wash.Rinse.Repeat.
What made you come back where the varying diffuculties, the rare items that dropped maybe once a week, the feeling of glee when that next level lets you kick the shit out of an enemy that whooped your ass before, the comradory of playing with friends.
Oh god dammit. Now I'll have to play the gamecube version again.
Ah, yes. Computer RPG style on the super nintendo in the early 90's. That was just a no brainer when the ported it.
That said, I'm sure that the PC counterpart didn't suffer from terrible AI, lousy control or unclear goals either. It probably didn't laugh at you when you died too, but that could have been me.
Granted, this is going to be completely different. It's made by EA! There's no chance it hell it could be a lacklust piece of crap spun out at the last minute to capitalize on the success of a franchize.
2-7 odds that it coincides with the release of the DVD's this christmas.
It's easy enough to twist any quote to fit a rebutal. Jerry Falwell's been doing it for a while now.
However, I think the original point was that Nintendo is neither better NOR worse off for shedding it's exclusivity with those 3 publishers, not becuase they may/maynot have sucked, but becuase they produced next to nothing over the past 2 years.
Unfortunatly, I have to agree. It looks alarming that this is happening, but in reality the world goes on, and no one really cares.
I'm sorry, there's so many ways I dissagree with this that to begin I have to go back.
Yes, Exclusivity does hurt the hell out of the Industry. No one wants a return the 1988 when Ma-Nintendo controlled 90% of all things released in the United states. That was a bad thing.
However, no one wants to buy a game and have another version appear on another console marketted as better. As much as I hate it, everytime I'm in an EB or a Software ECT I hear the counter monkey berating people for buying a specific consoles version of a game becuase 'Console Z has a better processor' or some other tripe.
The industry needs console specific games. Without them there is no reason to buy any one specific console. I'd never support the PS2 if I could get GTA3 in a Gamecube, or Microsoft if i could get True Fantasy Live on the PS2.
The games will get better if everyone has fun, exclusive content, not if everyone else has it and yours trys to be better.
If you think 8 was based on profitablity and side quests then you never played Kingdom Hearts.
Or anything released by Enix in the last 4 years.
Or any survival horror game.
Do you hear that? Its the sound of Squaresoft cashing in on one of their most profitable games ever.
Not that I don't blame them. I'm titilated at the prospect of entirely new content for that particular game's story, I wish instead that they'd gone ahead with the rumored PS2 remakes that where cancelled. At least I wish that had remade 7. With a better story.
What about the Cell phone game based on the Turks? Hello?
No no, its the fact that it has 'for Playstation 2' which has all the panties in a twist.
See, if it just said 'With the release of GTA III' no one (myself included) would care.
That little grace note has to many implications not to taste sour.
Does anyone have links to ye ol' Nintendo power comics?
I remember reading those things back in grade school and would love to wax nostalgic again.
Sony didn't make FF:XI. Besides, the article doesn't mention if this is a PC/PS2 only issue.
If it actually installs software without asking, they deserve some kind of large lawsuit

Ding dong the servers dead.....

The point is that this is the only -RPG- for xbox live.
As stated above,
racer, shooter:shooter:shooter, racer, shooter
So if you don't like shooter's, have a nice racer.
There goes the sole reason I wanted Xbox live.

Yeah, this should work. I am dumb. I'm telling ya, its awesome.
Ding. Found picture. Ignore filename.
Yes. Yes it is.
However, the gameboy version was out a good year.5 prior to that. Also, I can't play Double Dash verticly split either.
"I don't own a GBA and didn't plan on buying one for this purpose or for any other."

Don't hate the game, hate the rules.
I've already seen something similar done though. Me and a friend got our GC's together and played Mario Kart Super Circuit Side by side on a WideScreen TV with the GB-Player.

Yay, Sega's doomed.
Isn't replacing Mitsuda and the orignal score kind of like replacing the Mona Lisa with a polaroid? I mean, damn.

I was refering more to the Extended Edition DVD's. Also, Amazon and other's don't have a release date yet, so the joke was mearly a shot in the dark.
Also, I was kind of being sarcastic. But hey. It's hard to tell in context.
Ah, yes. Computer RPG style on the super nintendo in the early 90's. That was just a no brainer when the ported it.
