I think this post makes a lot of sense and I agree. However, anytime I see the word "meh" I automatically discredit you. Please, "nothing to see here" seems to have died, let "meh" die as well.
This is in no way against the OP and make it flamebait if you must.
I love being blamed for everything as an American, but we don't say "peckish", I don't know anyone who eats much porridge, I can only guess what a kabob shop is, and I have no idea what wheetabix is.
maybe I should go have breakfast so I'm not so pissy:-)
With respect to specs and cost and minimum purchase restrictions aside, I don't think there's much denying the viability of this little machine. Judging by the popularity of the eeePC, the specs are fine for whatever people are buying them for.
If the software doesn't suit you as a solution, don't complain about it, use something else.
This new free solution is perfect for me, as I've got enterprise level stuff running virtualization with Workstation. Nobody is debating whether this is a tool to getting you stuck with VMware, because it most certainly is.
what about reducing power costs? I'm genuinely asking the question. Maybe not the one you're talking about, but I'm guessing that, for instance, it's overall better to throw away the old P2-166 and replace it with an appliance router simply for power reasons.
Is that reducing? I don't really know, just a thought
Ok. It was seriously not flamebait and as such, I'll make this my last comment. I'd have laughed if someone said it about America. It's a joke. It would have been modded insightful if I had made the comment about the US and I still would have laughed.
though I do understand why there is a moderation for flamebait now... wow. You took bait that wasn't even there. I had (graduation separated us) several middle eastern friends in college, for the record. I make jokes about my own race and religion, too.
I recall being, by far, a minority in Computer Science as a caucasian. All my classes at a state school were 2/3 or so Asian. I certainly didn't mind and to be honest I miss the cultural diversity I had while in school, but it is interesting to note.

That is honestly a great idea if you don't have a login for the machine. If they can get to the desktop just fine and they fine porn there, you're probably right about their tendency to wipe the drive.
however, I think I'd rather have my laptop stolen that have my wife find porn on it. Please, I'm not trolling for comments about her being prude, just pointing out that this isn't necessarily a viable solution.
I know a photographer that had someone try to collect money over their HORSE being in the picture. wow. just wow.
all your medals are belong to us
only in the richest countries in the world can we be picky about what we eat and refuse meat
holy crap, that got modded "funny"! I'm sincerely proud of you, mods!
I agree completely with you, but I'm guessing it was an estimate made to scare people and justify what they're claiming for time frames
I read the article... I just have no reason to believe, having programmed in COBOL, that it could possibly be that bad.
What part of Government + COBOL has escaped you in this discussion?
each more powerful and more broken. Phones apparently aren't made to last too terribly long.

Coxes always come in pairs?
In the current Queen context, umm... yes
not only that, but hate Rush if one must, but they are also far beyond the skills of most anyone I hear today.
my niece has the opposite problem: if she likes them, they are a really good band. I'll admit that me liking someone doesn't make them good
That sums it up better than anything I've seen. Well said.
I'll "just wait" until you use some grammar I can understand. I'm not kidding, I have no idea what you're trying to say.

I once worked for a guy that has already solved the problem of global warming: Nuke Iran and create just a touch of nuclear winter :-)
I'm not sure how valid this point really is, but I definitely think it's something to consider. I'd mod you up.

mod parent "whoosh"!
while I agree, I do have to comment that SP2 is relevant because of two things
1. SP3 isn't that old
2. SP3 isn't that good and has a nasty habit of leaving your machine (or at least your VPN) unusable

ew. that is worse...
