    With respect to specs and cost and minimum purchase restrictions aside, I don't think there's much denying the viability of this little machine. Judging by the popularity of the eeePC, the specs are fine for whatever people are buying them for.

    If the software doesn't suit you as a solution, don't complain about it, use something else.

    This new free solution is perfect for me, as I've got enterprise level stuff running virtualization with Workstation. Nobody is debating whether this is a tool to getting you stuck with VMware, because it most certainly is.

    what about reducing power costs? I'm genuinely asking the question. Maybe not the one you're talking about, but I'm guessing that, for instance, it's overall better to throw away the old P2-166 and replace it with an appliance router simply for power reasons.

    Is that reducing? I don't really know, just a thought

    Ok. It was seriously not flamebait and as such, I'll make this my last comment. I'd have laughed if someone said it about America. It's a joke. It would have been modded insightful if I had made the comment about the US and I still would have laughed.

    though I do understand why there is a moderation for flamebait now... wow. You took bait that wasn't even there. I had (graduation separated us) several middle eastern friends in college, for the record. I make jokes about my own race and religion, too.

    I recall being, by far, a minority in Computer Science as a caucasian. All my classes at a state school were 2/3 or so Asian. I certainly didn't mind and to be honest I miss the cultural diversity I had while in school, but it is interesting to note.

    while I agree, I do have to comment that SP2 is relevant because of two things

    1. SP3 isn't that old
    2. SP3 isn't that good and has a nasty habit of leaving your machine (or at least your VPN) unusable

    That is honestly a great idea if you don't have a login for the machine. If they can get to the desktop just fine and they fine porn there, you're probably right about their tendency to wipe the drive.

    however, I think I'd rather have my laptop stolen that have my wife find porn on it. Please, I'm not trolling for comments about her being prude, just pointing out that this isn't necessarily a viable solution.
