This heat shield keeps heat out in summer; and retains heat in the winter. This is one of the most obvious applications of NASA developed technology towards greater energy conservation.

Microwaves -- are these a myth? Think these were developed by a commercial entity just so they could sell you a different type of oven?

Integrated circuits -- of course lighter weight, cheaper to manufacture electronics were not created by the space industry. When lifting loads into orbit, you don't need lighter weight electronics.

These are all problems which require solutions. But, a society which only focuses on the challenges closest to home will grow myopic. NASA does produce ideas and solutions which can be applied to problems closer to earth. But, what NASA provides most is an outward focus on spacescapes and ideas larger than all of us combined. This is a healthy and necessary element of our society.

Just like the psychiatrist who only works with disturbed people all day who thinks all people have some sort of mental malady, if our society only focuses on societal issues we will become too self involved. And very probably self destructive.

As someone else posted, for the money spent, NASA is a gem in our national investment portfolio. A good portfolio manager don't divest themselves of the promising ventures to focus their funds on only the largest financial ventures.

No, you would not. This is a Remotely Operated Vehicle. The endpoint of the control is not less than 4000 feet away -- straight down. The camera is not anything like a camera you hold in your hand. The camera is specifically designed for deep water use; and not for taking live action sweeps. The water at that depth is close to freezing, there are currents, and there is immense pressure.

Videography is not limited to just the narrow uses to which you are acquainted.

I suggest you spend some time learning about the limitations of designing, building, and operating equipment with the enormous pressure of water at those depths. As an example, the physical properties of the metal shackles holding the rig to the ocean floor changed because of the pressure. How well do you think fragile electronic equipment holds up under those conditions?

Perhaps these agencies do have qualified people. But, tracking down and disabling this botnet is not the responsibility of either the NSA nor the DOD. IF the only function of this botnet is to generate spam, in the USA this is a civil matter. Perhaps the Federal Trade Commission may take an interest; and, they could make an inter-agency request for help.

Until this botnet makes an overt or covert attack on the USA, neither the NSA nor the DOD have a responsibility to take action. It is just electronic junk mail.

But, if some armed response units were accidentally given intelligence which caused them to storm the personal residences of those in control of this network, I would not be disappointed nor would I complain to Congress.

Many of the standard questions are distilled from years of real experience with real people from many fields.

"Why do you want the position of foo at My Company?"

. This particular question can be asked of applicants of all ages; and, reveals much useful information and insight into how the applicant will perform.
    "I need a job"
"Every one has bills to pay"
"It's what I have done for the past X years"
"People are always going to need IT people; I am here to help"
Beyond all other technical questions, this question determines motivation. The above answers show any lack of interest or motivation in life in general -- regardless of age. These people are just here for the free buffet that comes with the bus ticket.

This single question alone will filter out the deadbeats who get to the interview stage. Then you can nitpick technical skills. But, I always choose motivated applicants with skills over experience every time regardless of age.
