The screenshot simply appears to be a hosed colormap. Mozilla does it to me all the time on KDE, but everything else works fine. Anyone have ideas where and how to fix the colormaps on X?
First, you must edit ~/../etc/foo/config/../x11/./ColMpS/knickers. Then you must kill the X Server with the Holy Spear of St. George, which is hidden behind the great mountains of Esrever. You must defeat many challenges, dragons, trolls and worse, British Rail. After defeating the twelve wizards, and filling in form K23462-D-246, you can then file your tax returns. After receiving second prize at a beauty contest, you will be able to restart the X server and watch it crash because you missed out a ^ on line 587.
I might've missed a few things, I'm sure there's a fiendish and deadly labyrinth somewhere as well, and probably a kernel recompilation as well...
It claims that DMA Designs was renamed Rockstar North before GTA3. It wasn't, look at an original (not Playstation Platinum) GTA3 box, it says DMA design. DMA changed name sometime after GTA3, as the Platinum version has the Rockstar North instead, and Vice City is also Rockstar North.
I seem to remember all the Nintendo fanboys were trying to convince everyone that it would cost $350. Now it appears to be reasonably priced (especially for a system far more advanced than a GBA) they're still complaining. It's a far more complex bit of kit than a GBA, so it's going to cost more. I wouldn't mind playing about $200 for a brand new piece of high tech electronics kit, remember the price will go down as well. This is early adaptors prices anyway, for the people who would pay GBP300 for a brand new PS2 on launch day etc.
I'd personally rather have a PSP than a DS, the DS seems over gimmicky for my tastes (touchscreen! mic! two screens! how many games are actually going to use them effectively!), so much show they should've called it the GimmickBoy, whilst the PSP seems more basic and solid in it's gameplaying department, and the media features seem nice (although i wouldn't buy many UMD movies myself). And the PSP is far better to show off with.;-)
(Sorry if this is a bit trolly, felling a bit under the weather, and no-one's been near my bridge today.;-)
Presumably they'd want people to play there games for a reasonable amount of time. If the battery life issue is as bad as Nintendo fanboys make out, I think battery life will probably become an issue mentioned in reviews etc. (At least in bad cases).
I would put "Mod parent down" in the header, but that's cheesy. But this obviously either a Troll, or a Funny. It's definitely not Interesting. It says 4-6 hours in full gameplay, presumably without much disc access I'd guess though.
Probably not. I don't think any portable consoles have TV out. It kinda defeats the purpose of them being portable. The PSP's screen is suppose to be very good however.
Have you seen any black Xboxes either? Everywhere I look it's the new Crystal Xbox with one controller (rather than the two controller version from earlier this year).
Rather annoying, I bought an Xbox last year, now a fancy better looking one appears to be becomming standard.;-)
Apart from the fact the US boxed link has a huge "Published by Rare" on it, and the UK version has THQ logos on it? Nintendo may have owned Rare at the time, but they obviously didn't want the game to go out under their label.
Amaxon and other big companies won't ship games outside of the intended region. There are dedicated import shops where people will be able to get it though, or places like DVD Box Office that don't seem to care.
I really like the look of this new PS2, especially as being a European the lack of a hard drive doesn't matter as we're not getting one anyway. About the only thing I was worried about was a possible lack of IR remote sensor, but seeing as it has one, that's cool. Plus it's black, not silver (I hate the current trend for tacky looking silver AV stuff).
Now if I only had any money.
Although I somehow think it might look a bit weird next to my Xbox, Mega Drive mk. 1 (Genesis) and Sega Saturn, I seen to keep on getting the big consoles.;-)
There's a still a fan, but a less noisy one. The disc drive probably doesn't sound like an Acorn Archimedies's floppy drive either.:-)
Could be worse, you could own an Xbox, mine makes a really annoying noise from it's fan (I think), I feel like seeing if I can replace it. Apparently as time goes on, the Xboxes construction is getting cheaper and cheaper, and it's getting noisier becuase of it.
I think they've said that games will be region lock free, and it's only for movies and stuff. That's assuming you trust what Sony say in pre-launch publicity for there consoles.;-)
In the UK it's November 11th, but that's assuming online companies don't send it out early. But I'm being cheap and using Super Saver delivery, so it'll arrive before Christmas, guaranteed, thanks to the Royal Mail.
Actually, I was talking about Sony and the PSP. But I don't think an EU launch date has been set for either, just Q1 2005 for the DS. (The US strangley gets DS first, then Japan).
Then again Nintendo do seem to have actually tried to make a bit of an effort with PAL gamers recently, but that's probably just becuase they want to try and avoid 3rd place, and so they have to actaully pay attention to Europe for once.
Sega was far nicer for PAL stuff though.:-) Can't get to sleep, I might just play some Rez (Dreamcast, of course) instead.
I think the PS2 could do Dolby encoding, but it has to do it in CPU time, so nobody does it (I think there may be one or two games that do). I think more games use DTS, again in software, so perhaps DTS offer a better library?
In the US they also released the Genesis (Mega Drive) Nomad, basically a portable Mega Drive. It also sucked batteries like there's no tomorrow. It apparently has a nice screen. Another high quality product from the Sega of America useless variations on the Mega Drive (sorry, Hardware Development) division.[1]
[1] Well, apart from the not-Dreamcast, which led to Sega being sued by 3DFX, and EA (a 3DFX shareholder) not making games for Dreamcast.
Are non-DVD CD-only drives sold anymore? I mean, beyond the bargin bins and refurbished units.
Yes! A quick lok on ebuyer.co.uk reveals you can get bare CD drives for about £7. For comparison, random prices for CD-RWs is £11, DVDs for £14 and combos for £25. So you can get them, but frankly you may as well get a better device.
The next drive I'll buy will be a DVD burner though, I've got seperate DVD and CD-RW drives, and it's only about £45 for a dual layer drive. (All prices are before VAT).
Plus my huge amount opd MP3s would be annoying to back up onto CD-Rs really.:-)

I somehow think the European launch will be in time for Christmas. Next year.
;-)
I do know someone who's in Japan at the moment, now if I only had money to actually get one.

It's advertising in Doctor Who Magazine that'll give Nintendo the real edge. ;-)
(Entirely true, an advert for NES Classics is the only non-Doctor Who related advert in the magazine for at least the last year).

But it's only generally the hardcore that import.
I think with Flash it's only writing that's finite, you can read as much as you want.
Not that software dongles need to be writted to in the first place, the poster is refering to things like DESkey, not a USB flash drive.

I want to know what JSDopefish has against DVDanswers.com - this is the second time he's Slashdotted them. :)

This thread is turning into a cload of bad jokes...
Or technically the Radarscope hardware, seeing as Donkey Kong was made to use Radarscope's hardware when the game turned out to be a bomb.

I thought the Xbox could do HDTV? (Assuming the game supports it, and you don't live in Europe).

I think it was supposed to be Q4 2004 in Japan, then Q1 2005 in the US, followed by a European launch when they can be bothered.
