The Machine that the unsuspecting customer uses (machine A) is not authorized and has no connection to any bank or financial institution, the only connection machine A has is to the laptop which is in the rucksack of the attacker at another location. the normal machine (machine B) accepts the wired card as a normal smart card, because it is simply relaying the data sent from machine A to machine B. how many people would keep a receipt for a low amount purchase? of course this whole idea depends on having the owner of machine A in on it, and having a friend who can complete the attack at Machine B.

My school http://acadiau.ca/ currently has a program called the "acadia advantage" where they lend out laptops to every student at the begining of each year, they use rather crappy dell latitude D600's which have a nasty habit of eating hard drives. on the social side of it, the lounges in residences are devoid of life. the student union building used to be devoid of life as well, but they made it so we could buy things at the snack mart with our meals. its nice to have a laptop for every student, it levels out the field as no one needs to buy a laptop, they are included in the price of tuition. unfortunately acadia has the highest tuition rate on the east coast of canada.
at my unie we have diebold mag-swipe access, they are on an intranet and have a UPS attched to each device, never been locked out, the room doors have TESA card locks on them , and even if power goes out it doesnt matter they run on batteries which maintenance replaces yearly, the day before dorms open. if the batteries do die on the doors during the year, they just connect this device to the front of the lock which can power it and programs the lock, im guessing via a 1-wire serial connection of sorts. its just your normal AC adaptor plug end that goes into the bottom of the door.

I have Finepix S20 pro and if you hook it up via the USB connection you can use it as a high quality web cam, if you use the firewire connection you can do some funky HiDef video stuff with it I believe, as my comp doesnt have a firewire interface I can't test it

yeah i got "the call" it was because I transferred over 1 terabyte in 30 days and the neighbor hood was complaining that the speeds were really slow. i download and share about 200 movies through a direct connect hub and they got pissy.
not sure but maybe one of those TroposNetworks 1 watt outdoor units might work for that. although it is only 11Mbs 802.11b so i'm not sure if thats enough bandwidth for you, as I have no idea what you're using this for.
sorry my only experience with RDP/ terminal services has been with Win2K server and WinXP, using xp as clients and win2k server for termserv, for a retail sales application, where everyone is the same user on the win2k box. very bad things can happen when network connectivity dies between locations, when people get disconnected they can get back into other peoples sessions and often times it is one of the manager sessions that get take by normal employees. we have been working with the software company to work things out for a better solution.
Terminal Services is great if you just want to log into a computer, but if you want to interact with another user or your own session already in progress( say you leave your comp running in your dorm or wherever and you need to just change something on your current screen) a VNC program will work much better( I use RealVNC works great no crashes yet, love the java viewer). Terminal services will cause you to be logged in twice on the same machine, causes all sort of strangeness.
Definitely time for the rest of the nation to get with NH's laws regarding wifi. If you don't take adequate measures to secure your wifi AP then you are responisble for anyone accessing your network and for any damages they cause.

thats is the bandwidth, usually unlimited transfer, unless you have comcast cable as your isp then they bitch about more than 1 terabyte a month
