It seems that Maxis is eager to do everything they can to promote this Sims lookalike. Although they are right to pursue this branch of their franchise, The Sims having done so first puts them in troubled intellectual property waters. Good luck Urbz, you may need it with the release of The Sims 2 not yet over the horizon.

I would not rule that out.

I've considered this myself and I know many others have as well - without any outside impetus. During the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, many people speculated as to how the terrorist threat would play out. Terrorists want Bush in power. The reason for this is so simple that liberals and conservatives can agree. Every time that Bush attacks or threatens a predominantly Islamic country, extremists develop in the populations.

Bush's assault Afghanistan on generated massive "collateral damage" - that is, holes in civilians caused by US' guns. To some people, a 3/4 dead village can be a bit upsetting. It's no surprise that these people then rebel against the United States. They realize that Osama Bin Laden is leading the fight and join his rag-tag clan of militant jihadists.

Bush's invasion of Iraq has directly caused over 13,000 civilian deaths. If this is not enough to agitate a population into extremism, I do not know what is. Am I supposed to believe that "liberation" includes "the freedom of body from soul"? Iraqis have read US history, they know that when we crash a party we never leave. Seeing this trend, they fear an extended US led occupation in their own country. The result is a rebellion against the invader. This can manifest itself in many ways: roadside bombs, mortar attacks, and both domestic and overseas terrorism. Osama Bin Laden becomes their patron saint.

Osama Bin Laden wants Bush because Osama Bin Laden does not value human life. He does not care how many innocent deaths it takes to bring the ideals of radical Islam to the world. If Bush incites a World War in the Middle East, Bin Laden would exalt him. Osama's goal is to incite a religious war against western "infidels" and their tainted culture. These wars are giant recruiting posters for Bin Ladne.

If Bin Laden could vote in the US, he would vote Bush.

Excuse me, but you do not seem to understand the point I was making. Bush, by all that I can tell, does not want the draft right now - especially with the imminent election.

But, Bush may soon find that he has run out of reservists to ship overseas. My explanation was clear: Bush may HAVE to reinstate the draft. If he intends to continue invading countries in the Middle East so that we can be prepared for the Second Coming, he's going to have to cough up an army. We don't have battle droids. So, I'd wager, should Bush win the election, the draft will be reinstated soon after (be it directly or more subtley - like how he ignored the assault weapon ban extension).

  7. No, there IS a point to the draft on Help Select Questions for Bush and Kerry · · Score: 1
If you use a lottery system that transcends all socio-economic boundaries, equal representation will be guaranteed in the armed forces. As is, the poverty stricken are left with nowhere to go but the army. Sometimes the lower-middle class is hit hard too, as parents cannot afford college for their children. Because they have enough to live day to day, they likely see college as a luxurious opportunity, but not an impossible one by any means. This is especially true with the government paying their way. That is, if the fine young men and women return from Afghanistan, Iraq, or (soon, I expect) Iran.

My personal opposition to this bill is the fact that it could be used as a cover for the real reason Bush might want to reinstitute the draft - a dearth of available service members to ship to other countries.

Admittedly, Democrats have pushed the bill from the start - so I am torn in loyalty. I agree with the idea, just not its timing or execution.

If choosing your next president (or, as /.ers might comprehend, "[evil] overlord") is offensive to you, you ought to move to a fascist state in which your name is simply assigned to a predetermined vote.

Illegal? Private universities can require whatever they please so long as it is not discriminatory (or against an explicit state or federal law). If there is any question as to the legality of an action, it's up to the student to appeal to a court.

I challenge you to find a law that states that "In an optional educational environment, requirements of students must be germane to the topic being taught."

If you're talking about "legality" within a campus setting, that's WHOLLY up to the university's administration.

This is not an outrageous requirement. If the students are not citizens, it could be an issue. However, that can be dealt with on a case by case basis.

If all teachers mandated voting as a class requirement, this country might have a better voting age distribution. The student population, a demographic overrepresented in both the radical left and right, ultimately has the lowest voter turnout rates.

If this (hopefully tenured) English literature professor recognizes this issue, why shouldn't she be permitted to address it? There is nothing harassing, offending, or illegal about it. Those in a political science class needn't be convinced to vote. All students go through English - I think it is ingenious to require voting in a class with such high enrollment.

Not to trivialize the process, but with the consistency granted by producing the same computer repeatedly, that is all that would be required.

These systems could then be sold at slightly elevated prices. The script-kiddie crowd would lunge at them, buying into a piece of the OC'ing action.
