Erm, nope.. I'm just asking a simple question. No need for all this rudeness.
I'm sure 95% of the population of Africa won't give a toss about faster or better internet, or even know or care what that is to begin with. There are more important things to work on and solve over there..
Shouldn't they focus on human rights, eradicating corruption, poverty, disease, getting rid of the so called debt they `owe` to Europe and the west? Instead, they want to improve their internet connection.. They really have the wrong priorities set at the moment...
Why don't they just ban those handful of ISPs until they stop their dirty tricks? A message to the user saying something like "you cannot access Netflix via this ISP due to x y z." and provide a list of good ISPs. That can force the customers/users to move away from these ISPs or complain, which puts more pressure onto them sorting their shit out.
Yes it's a hit to the number of Netflix customers but in the long run it should pay off..no ?
You said you had 24/7 personnel on call. Let's refer to them as the NOC.
Are they trained to type and follow commands, along with basic (i mean basic..) skills in *nix?
You could cut the cost of investment in automation which can be costly, and focus more on well documented (and tested as much as possible) steps or instructions that they can perform since they're up anyway.. You can use some of the allocated cost in training the NOC a bit more on *nix, scripting etc..
If anything goes wrong then they can call you and you can follow up. Depending on how good your steps are (and a bit of luck) you might end up waking up less than usual.
Of course I ask that silly question up top because you don't want to be awaken at the start of the maintenance saying "Hello sir, your MOP failed at `ls/vra/log`.
Now if only the corporate companies can also do the same with the damn ticketing systems that insist on an old unpatched version of IE8, with an old version of Java6, where any change will break it..:/
I've been having nothing but hell with a broken updater on all my VMs.. Either it takes 100% CPU usage non stop, or completely fails and immediately fails every update.. Every workaround in the book didn't fix that either.
Luckily I only use the VMs for testing at work.. happy to dump them and get back to my non MS OSes...
Not like Android where you have your apps list, and the second confusing menu where you can put the same apps, and widgets... just the very same windows they have now but with the ability to add widgets.
Can I claim the license for MS OS for me to be able to submit my claims ? I sure as hell wouldn't be able to afford to buy a new OS if I were visiting the benefits claim site...!
So all I or TBP have to do is clearly mark my pages as "archives" and legally get away with hosting child porn, TBP meta links, torrents and PDF books ? (Note to the Feds.. I don't and am not looking for an excuse to..):)
Yes sounds a bit silly but that's the point I was trying to make.. To many it looks like an organisation is getting away with that simply by playing with words or playing with a form of `political grammar`, while an average Joe who tries to do the same can get done for it - and other malicious Joes might get away with it if they were smart/big enough.
legally should/would they be held liable if one of those millions of sites has illegal content, like say child pornography or pedophilia? Or can any user use `mass archiving` as an excuse should they ever get caught with any illegal porn, copyrighted material, et al..
Or what if they archived a copyrighted site without asking the owners for permission, such as a personal site, or one of those news sites that keep complaining about others who link to them - or even those persons who link to them...
There are many more examples, but it looks like this should cause more issues rather than good use.
Not to sound like a rant but I've almost had it with their countless bugs with password saving.. I tried every trick on the net short of abandoning it for another browser.. it won't save my passwords anymore, it never updates my existing passwords, and the ones I delete won't ask me to add them anymore.. And googling around I see countless others who have the same problems since 2009.
No I don't want to use another plugin, I'd prefer to stick to google's own as much as possible and not replicate features.. I just would have thought Google would put more effort into this seeing as how large they are and how anal they were when it came to interviewing for a job there. I expected better...
I'm interested to see Apple's statistics on how many will suddenly upgrade to iOS6 this week or two..
This can be interpreted in many ways.. For one, how many just really don't like their way of restricting - excluding those who accidentally upgraded btw..

"Unfortunately we don't currently have a build that OS X Leopard (10.5) users could use"
Except for the build we just blocked...
Can it play Zelda? :)

Isn't that considered fruit from the poisonous tree?
Now if only the corporate companies can also do the same with the damn ticketing systems that insist on an old unpatched version of IE8, with an old version of Java6, where any change will break it.. :/
Hell can you even still do that?
I've been having nothing but hell with a broken updater on all my VMs.. Either it takes 100% CPU usage non stop, or completely fails and immediately fails every update.. Every workaround in the book didn't fix that either.

LOL I wish I can mod you up :)
Legally sell these "light bulbs" as "heat bulbs".. problem solved?
It's called *nix and anything derived from *nix :)
For such a view/picture being displayed, I wouldn't blame the iPhone for restarting ! :)
What if the robot was operated by the nurse? o_O

Switch off the monitor :)

" Actually amazing that you didn't fuck up after WW2,"
Well... I would say dropping a nuke onto a city full of civilians is enough of a fuckup during the war... Cut them some slack...

Out of curiosity, how is this even legal?

"It wants to create noise in the media about issues that are close to its heart,' he said."
In other words, you're saying they won...
Well done.
I wish I can mod you up for that :)
Did anyone else get a 503 error for a few minutes trying to access /. btw ?
I wonder if they can combine it with the unlimited detail rendering technology developed in OZ.. That would be kick-ass
