Thank you for your comment, I'm glad to see a posting like this on Slashdot - I find this more informative then a lot of the news coming from the big media. I have only been to Japan a few times but I was very impressed with the people there and it's quite heart wrenching seeing all of you go through this.

I have done what little I can from here, but you brought up a good point about helping with the areas once everything calms down. I know your just one of many millions of people over there but if you so happen to hear of a way us foreigners may be able to help in a more direct way by helping with rebuilding or whatnot - I would very much like to hear of it (my email address is my slashdot username at that gmail place). I would have no problem flying down if I knew I was actually helping and not just getting in the way.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!

Renaming Hitler Hospital or Hitlers Elementry School isn't wiping away evil. That's not the point. The point is the reason we name a building like that is because it's a sign that hey we respect and like him. There's a reason no hospital is named after me - I don't deserve it, it would be dumb.

So if we INITIALLY name a building because either it's a sign of respect to that person, and that person later on turns out to be a crazy murderer, why would we keep the name? We no longer respect that person. The original meaning is lost.

History should not be forgotten. But why the bloody hell would we keep a name like Hitler's on the side of a building? What's the point? What's the benefit?

"I went to a school named after one of the worst people of the 20th century" ya, that's great.

As for Reiser, why the hell NOT rename it? It's called PR. people don't like using stuff associated with murder in this regard. The name Reiser means NOTHING good anymore. Fair or not, that's the situation.

My understanding is Apple wants a 30% cut. However they don't want providers to charge extra on Apple devices - so basically publishers have two choices:

    1) Keep the price the same, and if the provider was making 30% or less already per sale, potentially lose money per sale.
    2) Raise the price for all and have non iOS users essentially pay a 30% tax for Apple.
    3) Don't release on iOS and lose that customer base.

This is MY understanding. If I'm wrong please let me know.

As others have already said.. No. This involves using a 3rd party (non official) market, which requires you to set your phone to enable 3rd praty downloads. You have to go through hoops to make this happen. It's possible that phones out there in China come like this, however it's quite possible your HiPhone4 isn't really an iPhone too...

I'm not aware of this happening on the official Android market, and in fact would be rather difficult. These guys are taking Market apps and repackaging them with the spyware crap, then loading them on 3rd party markets where that app doesn't already exist.

The iPhone approach prevents various markets from even existing (you can install any web browser on the iPhone as long as it's their web browser), and are at the mercy of their sometimes psychotic approval process.

I want Apple telling me what I can install on my phone as much as I want Microsoft doing this.

I use texting quite a bit on my phone (thanks to a handful of people that I know that use it all the time) and have NEVER had this issue.
