FYI, Microsoft offers this mouse behavior as part of its free Tweak UI application. They call it X-Mouse. It is probably available via the registry as well.
The term "financial gain" includes receipt, or expectation of receipt, of anything of value, including the receipt of other copyrighted works.
Also note the full definition of criminal enfringement as outlined in the No Electronic Theft Act of 1997:
(a) Criminal Infringement.--Any person who infringes a copyright willfully either--
1. for purposes of commercial advantage or private financial gain, or
2. by the reproduction or distribution, including by electronic means, during any 180-day period, of 1 or more copies or phonorecords of 1 or more copyrighted works, which have a total retail value of more than $1,000, shall be punished as provided under section 2319 of title 18. For purposes of this subsection, evidence of reproduction or distribution of a copyrighted work, by itself, shall not be sufficient to establish willful infringement.
Oh, and he also believes that Mars is going to crash into earth but only people living near the coast will die. Though, I might be mistaking him with the other guy now..
That wasn't Sollog, it was one of his followers.
Sollog claimed Elizabeth Smart's kidnapping was an act of terrorism and that she would turn up dead. I wouldn't put too much weight in his predictions.
"That's called the electoral process, in a true democracy you can do exactly that. Perhaps the question is do you live in a true democracy or a two party state."
Ever think the reason the two parties remain dominant is that the rest of the country agrees with them?
They'd pay, because you can't use it otherwise. The entire idea behind patents is to grant the inventor a limited-time monopoly in exchange for telling everyone how they did it. As it stands we grant the monopoly but don't get anything in return.
Personally, I think software patents of specific implementations, not ideas, are perfectly acceptable. The system is definitely broken, however, and I believe this is a reasonable solution.
If you would like an example of a beter system then just take a look at iTunes.
How is that a better system when iTunes is part of the RIAA's business model?
Their business model is failing. Quit tinkering with legislation and find a profitable venue.
Which part of their Business model is failing, exactly? Is it the fact that they charge money?
Laws are (indirectly) created by the citizens, however asinine they are. You are suggesting that a government agency be given the authority to deny the will of the people.

That would be 1841, not 1976
Because without the act now known as "piracy" we wouldn't even have a recorded history.
First off, the term isn't "now known as" piracy. You'll note it was even used in Folsom v. Marsh which was the first case to apply Fair Use.
Also, copyright law does not bar people from recording history. It only stops people from copying someone elses record of history.

Because that is what every spyware popup says
Temperpedic mattresses
Who cares what their rationale is for it? They are a private entity and if they want to limit advertising for themselves that is their problem.
Because all of the claims of fraud in the US election have been, or are being investigated. The same cannot be said for Ukraine.
What exactly is a Standards-compliant operating system?
svchost.exe lsass.exe services.exe winlogon.exe I have confirmed these all to be dangerous keylogging processers. Terminate them at will!
Quitting is fighting for what is right. If EA's result in a failure to attract good talent, they will change.
Wouldn't it be easier to sleep with your wife instead of buying all those kids?
I agree. Slashdot is also funded by Microsoft ads which is why there are no anti-microsoft articles on the site.
You mean these?
HalfLife 1, running on the Quake 1 engine, supported OpenGL HalfLife 2 is DirectX
I don't know how most foreigners ended up with this misconception, but highly graphic violence is censored on broadcast TV too.
I believe there is some law or contract issue about streaming the local commercials.
