Instead of "use tax" (implying costing money to use it after purchase - which I have never paid anyone any money to use my cd's after i purchased them) you should just flat out state EULA (or equiv). It is the IP holders form of protection - while you may not agree with it and may not like it - it is their form of a padlock. We don't cry that a bank has a huge vault that contains your safety deposit box - and that to get into this safety deposit box you have to go through a specific process (and some banks charge each time you access your box). IMHO it is wrong of us to cry that someone is trying to protect their property - physical or not.
On the average - most people have no idea what DRM is. In fact when they see it they probably think it is some rap group.;) What the common folk generally hears, on occasion, is that some group is trying to pass a law to prevent people from copying other people's IP and giving/selling it for profit without consent from the IP holders.
As an informed consumer - knowing that people are doing illegal copying - I realize that IP holders are trying to protect their IP. Now doing this is going to inconvenience me, the good ole innocent one who is trying to utilize my product (i.e. dvd) - but this isn't the first time in our history that a few bad apples cause society to create restrictions that hinder the good apples. Think of banking - you go to the bank you have to prove who you are with ID and a signature card. Why do you have to do this? Why can't you just say "Hey I am Joe Schmoe, can I have my money?" - well the obvious answer - because there are criminals out there and the bank is protecting themselves (as well as their customers).
If someone can create a better system then DRM for the music/movie industry - then they should - but right now that is what they got.
I usually type better - but not on internet forums. I reserve nicely written letters for work or other professional correspondence (i.e. charity work that I do).
I need the multi-function mouse for quicker access while gaming. I am right handed and operate much more quickly with my right then my left. Since keyboard utilization is mandatory with most FPS games these days while using a mouse I need to minimize the amount of keyboard strokes made - hence the insane amount of buttons on my mouse (logitech mx 510).
I was under the impression that apps come out for Macs (generally) after PCs...so if you wanted to get the latest and greatest just as it hit the shelves --- well you are waiting.
Also, Macs are a bit more expensive to buy and repair. And aren't MACs at the epitome of "closed source"? I know they have opened up their hardware a little more in recent years - but how far?
In the media, doing interviews, etc sure. In a debate - there are different rules and guidelines. They want people to watch and listen to these debates, and they probably want people to either convert from Linux to Windows or if they are Windows fan-geeks to re-affirm this notion. They will not accomplish either if they do not make each argument qualified and give the Linux side a strong fighting chance.
Reasons why I wouldn't want a MAC, and even if I was given one (why it would sit on my desk unused). *warning if you are going to bitch about me not being PC, do not read below*
1) Apps come out slower then PC
2) Less apps to run then a PC
3) Industry still uses PC much more then MAC
4) Stupid one button mouse is RETARDED
5) Going back to the mouse - I like my mouse with eight buttons. Only wish I had one with ten buttons. Does apple utilize these bad boys?
Actually I think there will be some insightful talks. The reason is because whenever a company hosts a talk about their product vs another product - they have the burdeon to make the discussion fair and informative. People (i.e./.) will be looking for MS to say "Windows rules, Linux sucks" and MS knows this. While they might slant it a bit in their favor - it would be very bad for them to rip up Linux w/o justifying each and every insult.
well i think someone modded it that way. As for "gently" pushing...how do you gently push a big object floating in space with its own trajectory (probably for a lot longer then we have lived) when we can barely even do space walks (they should call them space crawls at the speed we do them)....Aren't they using bombs? There is nothing really gentle about an explosive
Yea well Civil courts, imho, are as broken as they come. You can sue a man who was given a 'not guilty' verdict for millions and win (OJ comes to mind). Civil court is another way to ruin a person - no they don't lose their freedom - just their "pants".
That and you can sue anyone for anything with very little chance of retribution for making a bogus claim.
I found a couple of links from a couple of states. Here Here
Please note that it mentions putting the person in a sense of danger - I believe the link occurs when a person is in a perceived sense of danger - they can react in a defensive manner. So if a police officer thinks someone is targeting him with a laser sighted weapon, they can pull and shoot.
unfortunately, no i do not - i am going by word of mouth from a reliable source (fbi agent). Now he could have been bsing me, but i can't see why. I will actually take a quick look on google. If i find anything (pro or con) i will repost.
Or if you read my sub post - (oh wait you don't do that, you would rather just insult) you would see that I commented on how the formatting of my letter was piss poor because I was doing two things at once (on the phone and typing) - which is a no-no to the brain.
Hence, back in my bouncing days I told the stupid girls, who thought they were being cute, that if they did not stop using their laser pointer - I would own a laser pointer.
Not to mention the bar i worked at was loaded with FBI agents who get really trigger happy when they have a laser pointed at their forehead (and yes, if you point a laser at someone, and they shoot you - you cannot hold them legally liable)
While you may be correct in some of your arguements, (I won't argue those since I *know* I am not expert) you are wrong in your final point - "leave well enough alone". My argument is check, double check, triple check, and god dammit check it again - cause I would rather a mistake NOT be made.
A question about the scattershot effect - a 5 meter asteroid - something we could easily obliterate - you don't think that would scatter?
Do they calculate the return trajectory of any asteroid they hit but doesn't get blown up into shards?
Here is a good reason: I create the intellectual property - spending my time, money and effort. I should be able to do whatever I please with it and have it enforced in any legal manner I see fit. I should also be able to have it protected - and since I am the tiny guy working out of my garage and do not have the money to do the research or enforce such a law - I ask that the government help protect me from the big mean people who would steal my work because they are too inconsiderate to respect my hard work.
As for stopping to post here well you are a stfuing AC so who the hell cares what your assinine wishes are. The original posters comments are 100% valid
true true...i just hope that something like this has a heavy hand of oversight by disinterested and knowledgable groups. I would not want the gov't to run this necessarily (probably because it would cost us thousands of times more and be of poorer quality) but I would like for the gov't to make sure these guys are checking, triple checking, and then checking their stats again before launching a big bomb (probably nuclear)
Why do I have this ominous feeling of dread when I think of some overzealous people trying to prove they can do something as destructive as messing with an asteroid. I am sorry, but I like that asteroid nice and FAR from us. Blowing things up has a habit of spreading pieces in a chaotic fashion - pieces that might fall our way. I hope there is a more practical application - like say if one day an asteroid is going to hit us they will use these techniques to divert Earth from mass devastation (would render many movies to pure fiction...oh wait)
Please accept my appologies - the above post is probably the most poorly worded post I have ever written. Thats what I get for writing and doing tech support at the same time.
I was talking with a friend of mine (we had just installed some roms) and while the graphics aren't as impressive as they seemed to have been back then - I remember back in the day when 8 bit and 16 bit graphics came out. All of us at the time were amazed and going "wow, look at that." Yea they seem lame today compared to our standards (altered beast for sega seemed SO cool back then, but now between game play control, and graphics its crappy....but thats by todays standards, not 10 years ago).
Though there are certain games that should never be knocked because they were revolutionary - Wolfenstein 3d, Doom 1, Pac Man (gotta give props to this one), Final Fantasy. These are games that sparked up many many games that followed suit. There are tons of FPS games out there. THere are tons of FF type games. And Pac Man, well thats the first.
Now what we should do - when you have kids (if you don't already) punish them by sending them to their room and force them to play Pong on an old atari. Now that would be insane punishment.
the hybrid car designs (small interior) are not the result of the engine, but of the designers. In their attempts to get a new look they did a butcher job. It is almost like they wished to sabotage the chances of hybrids taking off - figuring nobody would buy such a small vehicle (it was the honda i believe that had the first one) - and if nobody buys it then they can say the tech sucks and we should remain with gas.
Diesl, i believe is very bad for the environment, but don't quote me on that.
The purpose of hybrids is to help conserve gas and to help the environment.
Hand labor has always (at least in the past 50-60 years) been of more value then craftsmanship. Actually, hand craftsmanship never lost its value - because it takes so much manpower...these days because the whole "it was made by hand" commands a higher price, even though the hands might be of a 10 year old in Malaysia working for 10 cents a week.
I hope you were not trying to be a troll, in all honesty, since you were around for a while. Through-out history there are records of us using older techniques (look at plastic surgery, how it uses techniques from India culture of over 4000 years ago).
And all humans are encased in little containers filled with pink embryonic goo so they can harvest the energy from their bodies. Then Neo can come and save us.
i did bother to read the fucking article - and i also stated i was doing something else at the same time . stop assuming

Man I go old school with my ancient magical katana blade in one hand - and my .50 cal desert eagle long barral in the next. (laser sight included)
