Almost all ISPs have posted Acceptable Use Policies that are subject to change at any time -- and they are considered to be part of the contract. I think that most ISPs are finished with fine tuning their AUPs, but for a while they had to be changed fairly frequently to close holes that spammers were exploiting to prevent their removal from the net.
"Keep in mind that the closest of these beaches are less than 20 miles from NYC and you can deduce that something had to be done in order for locals to be able to get a square inch of beach."
Hmmm, I live in Washington, DC; perhaps we could get the National Park Service to institute tagged entrance to the National Mall so that locals can get a square inch of lawn. I wouldn't mind paying $20 a year if it meant fewer tourists on the Mall.
The problem is that a very high proportion of food sold in American supermarkets contains HFCS, including food that shouldn't contain any added sugar; such as peanut butter and bread. The sugar in almost all foods that historically had contained sugar has largely or entirely been replaced with HFCS.
Good post on EMP, although I disagree on the vulnerability of military electronics and telecommunications to EMP.
EMP was a known threat during the cold war and military electronics were designed to withstand EMP.
I worked as a technician for AT&T Long Lines during the cold war and saw what was done in order to minimize the impact of EMP on the telephone facilities that were used by the military. As an example, the L-3 long haul coaxial cable system that went from Dranesville,VA and Waldorf, MD to Mojave, CA; with an L-1 spur to NORAD in Cheyenne Mountain, had tube type repeaters. Everything was heavily shielded and the facility offices and repeater manholes that were along the route were shielded underground buildings that were designed to withstand nuclear attack; including EMP. The buildings that housed AT&T AUTOVON military telephone system switches were also in those shielded underground buildings.
EMP was a MAJOR consideration and EMP resistance was built into electronic equipment and systems. I have a very difficult time believing that recon satellites were not designed with EMP resistance being a major priority.
The fundies have had LOTS of practice in picking and choosing what they want to believe and follow from the bible. Picking and choosing from science is no more difficult than picking and choosing from the bible.
I haven't listened to music on commercial broadcast radio for many years. The only broadcast radio I listen to is NPR, and then only certain shows. The Internet radio stations that I used to listen to are shutting down.
I now only listen to satellite radio and my long ago purchased CDs -- REAL CDs, not the DRM laced CD-like disks that are now being sold.
Everybody in the house has their own cell phone and our house has a wired POTS line that I will not get rid of. From my experience broadband cable (VoIP) service goes out as soon as the power goes out and cell service (including wireless data) dies a couple of hours after the power goes out.
Our cable broadband service doesn't even need a power outage for it to go out. I have never known of the wired POTS line going out in the 15 years that I have lived in this house.
Are you suggesting that India clone a DS? If Nintendo adds a micro SD and touch screen to an DS it will no longer be just a video game and the price will at least double or triple. Also, touch screens are expensive
I understand that at least the initial restoration (that took like six hours) was a manual restoration and was done using commodity internet circuits, not the special high speed arrangements that Internet2 normally uses.
The internet was originally designed to deal with nukes. Now, the Internet is simply a commercial communications medium that has limited self healing capabilities. The corporations that own the Internet on the whole have built a robust national network, HOWEVER there are many areas that have limited or no alternate routing capability.
The entire Internet2 network has very limited or no alternate routing capability.
In and around many cities, fiber optic cables are concentrated into underground conduits and tunnels. When something happens to or inside one of those conduits or tunnels a large amount of the data capacity of several different providers can be affected. Having people living in the same tunnels as exposed fiber optic cables is just asking for trouble.
I noticed that SCOX opened this morning at.94 and it has dropped to.86; about an 8% drop. SCO has until October 22 to get its stock price above $1 for 10 consecutive days or it will be delisted. Stock splits won't count.

I seriously doubt that any of the managers of any project that use GPLv3 give a rat's ass if MS distributes their software or not.

"But this license is reckless and selfish."
Nobody is forcing you to use their GPLv3 licensed software; don't use software licensed under GPLv3 if you think that it is reckless.
If you want to see selfish, read the license on almost any copyrighted commercial product that can be used on or with a computer.
Will Emergency Repair Procedure #1 (in this case slapping it smartly on the hand) cause it to reboot?

First solution is to install a urinal in the bathroom.
Second solution is for a man to live with a man, not a woman.
I just verified that my javascript was turned off and went to google.com. I didn't find that anything required javascript.
Non-food chemicals such as Alar, benzoates, and artificial colors/flavors should not be added to the food chain - period.

Many companies are using a fraction of the /8s and /16s that were assigned to them back when.
I do not know what the requirements are; it is possible to sue somebody so to stop them from threatening to sue.

They don't have Common Carrier status.

The last company that made sweeping claims like this against Linux is just now starting to circle around the bowl.

$15 scientific calculators are not costly.

"However can you really see the US Government changing their (longstanding) policy to providing Israel with cash (and weapons)?"
That was actually my point; the only country on the list that could be affected by sanctions won't be sanctioned.
I find it very interesting that Israel is on the list as it is the only country on the list that could really be affected by US sanctions.

Why not just call them and trade the keys using Pig Latin?
