There is no way I'm going to shell out money for anti virus software for my macs when there is currently no real risk to me.

I won't waste my CPU cycles, time and money on a virtually non-existant problem for the sake of protecting stupid Windows users. If they get infected that's their fault - if they choose to use a plagued OS, then they should be responsible for the potential reprocussions.

For the time being, all I have to do is run in a non root account, behind a firewall and only download files from trusted sources and don't enter my password when I double click a jpeg. That and keep an eye out on the mac community web forums and news sites for any new (real) threats - the recent (broken) bonjour/ichat proof-of-concept trojan is of no real concern.

If the tiime comes when REAL virii start to infect OSX, non admin/root accounts without any user interaction (social engineering) then I'll consider anti virus software.

But I'm not wasting my time protecting windows users from their os.

  3. Ok, lets get real on Macs May No Longer Be Immune to Viruses · · Score: 0

How many people in real life have gotten an actual honest-to-goodness virus on Mac OS 10.0-10.4 in the wild and have lost data or had their machine turned into a zombie (with no interaction on their part such as typing in their password when double clicking a jpeg or something)? The answer: 0 Nothing to see here, move along. As it currently stands, the only way to become infected by an actual Virus (not a trojan or malware) on a Mac is by running windows in boot camp - although it won't likely harm the OSX partition. Slow news day = OMG teh Mac viruses are coming1111 oh noes look out11! Maybe iIt could happen someday. But it is not an issue now. And if it does, it will be nothing compared to windows' problems. Mostly, this is simply windows users' "sour grapes" to using OSX

Linux community? We already established in a previous article that lunux users are socially inept, condecending, RTFM assholes.

Linux users aren't helpful - they are only intrested in pointing out how it's not linux's fault that it sucks as a desktop. It's the fault of n00b users and win-modems and so-forth.

The Mac community is the best. Helpful, friendly people giving good advice that actually makes things work when and if they don't out-of-the-box.

If someone can't be bothered with simple grooming and looking presentable... why should I believe that person would bother doing a good job with their work. How you look says a lot about what you do with your time (or don't do). When I see a lazily, sloppily dressed person, that is an indication of their personality. You should be able to spend time on your appearance AND your work. If you skimp on one, I'd bet you skimp on the other. When you dress like a lazy bum, it is reasonable to suspect you work like a lazy bum. It is a fair and accurate conclusion. I know plenty of hippy dressers and they all fit that mold.

  14. Worst... look... ever on Sandals and Ponytails Behind Slow Linux Adoption · · Score: 0

Pony tails on men are ugly, dated and lame. If you have long hair, wear it long. If you can't have long hair, a pony tail doesn't make it look clean cut. It looks like a ratty, cheesy pony tail. The only thing worse than a man's pony tail is dreadlocks (gross).

Sandals are for the beach and the park. Men shouldn't wear sandals in public places and certainly not in an office. Who wants to see those nasty feet, much less smell them. The only thing worse than seeing a man's feet is seeing his "junk". Men's feet are disgusting to look at. Cover that shit up.

As for linux.. it is worthless as a desktop and I would never, ever use it as a file-server. A web-server or router at best. But as a workstation... forget it.
