The something "bad" was closing security holes that allowed anyone to execute code on the iPhone as root. Yeah, that's fucking EVIL. And with the new tiff issue it will be patched by the end of next week, I'm guessing. The problem isn't the 3rd party apps. Apple even said "More power to you." The problem is that the only way to install them at the moment is taking advantage of security flaws.
Greed motivates people to come up with the next big and cool thing. The iPod is a 'greedy' product. You don't need it, you WANT it. Apple doesn't NEED to charge what they do (more than twice the cost of the parts IIRC) but you'll pay it. Apple is greedy, sure, but the customer is greedier because they'll overpay to have the new shiny.
Except Comcast doesn't sell TVs, Exxon doesn't sell cars, and Verizon doesn't sell computers. This is someone who has a network already in place (AT&T) and they're selling access to it (Cellphones). If you don't like AT&T use Verizon. Or T-Mobile. Or one of the other guys.
And if Comcast (or Time Warner in my case) knocked 70-90% off of the price of my TV but I could only use that TV on their 'network' I'd be all for it. And just like with AT&T if you don't like that deal go find one you DO like.
I don't know the law, but maybe for a branding/marketing point of view it would have made sense. Even if you can only sell them unlocked, being the only source other than directly from Apple that is able to sell the iPhone sounds like a lot of business to me.
The thing is that the "documented evidence" exists in one place. Other than the Bible there's no record of a "Jesus" existing or doing the things that the people who believe in invisible men claim he did.
Also, you can't be both an atheist (KNOWING there is no god) and an agnostic (admitting you cannot possibly KNOW if god exists).
If by "Jesus" you mean the Jesus that does lawn work in my neighborhood, you're right Jesus existed. There is no historical evidence that Jesus existed at the time he was said to.
Company of Heroes is a good game. And if you don't mind graphics that seem kinda out-dated the recent Warhammer 40k RTS games are VERY good. I've been spending some time going back through the Dark Crusade campaign as all the armies.
2000 was 7 years ago. The transitional phase was between 1998 and 2001. The only reason the world is tolerating their antics is because the majority of the people don't understand the situation. My 51 year old mother downloads music. My 74 year old grandmother downloads music. They, for the most part, don't know that there is a group called the RIAA who is suing people, because as much bad press as they get on sites like Digg and Slashdot, NBC News isn't talking about how grandmothers and infants are being sued. They're not talking about $30k per song lawsuits. But they will soon. I give it another year or so until it starts to get out of control. And once the RIAA has to do damage control because of the lawsuits it will be WAY too late.
The only part of my post that mentioned the education system was the one about the computer repair class. And the teacher of that actually runs a local computer repair business. His method of teaching is "Here's what you need to do this month. If you have questions, I'll be over here. If you want to play counterstrike and fuck around, do that. You will pass but you will learn nothing."
He gave us the tools and told us what we needed to end up with. Nothing like "classic" education system crap. All my regular school classes were awful. History? I learned this stuff when I read about history over the summer. Math? I failed because I can't show my work since I did it in my head. English? I read the books you're telling me to read now back when I was 12.
The current system is awful, I'm not saying it works. I never said the system works, but I guess I should say "You get out of it what you put into it." If you sit in the back of the class talking to your friend and not paying attention, you will not learn as much as the student who WANTS to learn. I never said I was great, but I was motivated to learn how the things I enjoy work. And not everyone has to be. You don't need to know how a hard drive works to like your MP3 player, you don't need to understand how your cell phone works to use it, but the world is becoming high tech. Understanding the basic workings of the things you enjoy should be something everyone is interested in.
I like driving my car, it's nothing fancy just civic (and I'm not a ricer, it's stock) but I looked into how everything in it worked. I learned a little bit about engines and the history of Honda. Did I have to? No. But I wanted to. I don't understand why more people don't think like that.
I actually wear button ups quite often and like having comfortable ones. The same goes for my pants. I wear comfortable cargo pants and hate the cheap stuff. And I HATE jeans. They bother me so much. I'm picky with my sneakers, I'll only wear Airwalks, and when you have an "Above normal" shoe size you have to order them special.
I'm most likely an exception rather than a rule but compared to my Mother, Aunts, and Female friends I've got almost nothing as far as clothes go.
I see more and more of the people with UIDs much higher than mine, which is quite high, and I only see people with 3, 4, or 5 digit UIDs only comment when someone says "You must be new here."
I have to agree with you. I don't dress "fancy" or anything, but my pants are $60. I only have 8 pairs of pants purchased over a 3 year period to replace the previous 6 pairs. I also tend to wear t-shirts from Think-Geek or a podcast I support, I have about 15-20 of them. If I have to wear a button-up, that's another $70. I own 3-4 of them. Shoes, I have one pair of sneakers and one pair of boots. The sneakers were about $75 and the boots were $130. My socks are purchased by the gallon, but my boxers are about $23 for a two-pack.
Mens clothes aren't cheap, but we also don't collect them or worry about "outfits" or "matching" for the most part.
I do go to a salon for my hair cut, but only because there are no barbers around. My haircut is $12 and I give her a $20. I get my hair cut once maybe every 10 months. If it's clean and not in my food, I don't care what it does. I can just put on a hat if I need to.
The issue, and I have mentioned this many times when people bring up how kids today are so good with technology, is that the kids know Youtube is for videos, MySpace is for.. whatever MySpace does, and that iPods hold music. That's it.
When I was in 5th grade I was learning how interbutts work. Instead of playing sports I was reading some "for dummies" books and learning the basics. I was designing basic websites for myself and my pets. I was exploring and learning about the technology that was springing up. I wanted to know how my first PC (Only an IBM with Win95, I'm too young for anything much older) I took it apart and figured out how it went together. When I got into High School I took a computer repair class and on the first day I was the first (and only) person who took his computer apart and put it back together in the time allowed. Now I build and troubleshoot computers for friends and family members on the side and make pretty good money doing that on top of my regular job (where I'm not a member of the IS department but I get asked to fix more problems than they do).
I still talk to my old Computer Repair teacher and he tells me that the new kids taking the class don't want to learn, they just browse the internet and update their MySpaces. They don't want to know how to install Windows or replace hardware. They don't even know what "a linux" is, and why would they? It doesn't help them add tacky background images to their myspace pages. In their defense, back before MySpace we all had a GeoCities account with an animated flaming skull.gif.
There's a big difference between USING technology and UNDERSTANDING it, and the kids today just don't care.
As much as I hate it Digg IS a bunch of pre-teens and teens. There's a shit-ton of 'em, and they are being motivated to teach their parents about this stuff.

You're clearly not biased when it comes to discussing Apple, so please tell us more of what you think.

I don't see YOU building houses for the homeless.
Working in a hospital we're constantly at war with the nasty bugs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MRSA is the big bad bug.

I noticed the majority of your post was bashing Microsoft for some reason. Maybe you should talk to a professional about your hate.
Actually, that's incorrect. The crows are using the traffic as a tool.
The magic words when you have to go to court are as follows:
Reasonable Doubt.
Ghandi's racism stems from his use of the word "nigger" to refer to Africans.

And I don't think Christ would support anything since he's a fictional character.

It was Sabotadge.
Don't correct me, it sickens me.
Because Ron Paul is actually honest.
