The Genesis was made long after the console manufacturers were also the sole rights holders. How did they manage to get the agreement from so many companies?
What the RIAA is doing isn't racketeering-if anything, it's blackmail.
The difference? Guilt.
Racketeering implies illegal imposition on a legitimate business, whereas this is legal imposition on an illegal business. Regardless of your views on IP/copyright/the RIAA(and FWIW, I think they're monopolist wankers) the fact is the mp3 swapping is illegal.
While there's a case for comparing their regualr business practices to organised crime, that bears no more relation to the mp3 cases than Gate's charitable donations do to Microsoft's monopolistic business practices
Just because someone's a bastard doesn't mean they aren't (legally) in the right
I'm planning on switching to Linux, despite the things I'll have to give up (ie IE's speed and excellent history, the availability of reliable Windows drivers for my hardware and the versatility and stability of WMP). Anyway, I know many Linux distros put plenty of redundant content on the CDs, presumably to hide the fact that it's a non professional product. I'm not keen on using more than one GUI, so
my question for you Linux gurus is-should I use Gnome or KDE? Which one is faster and more function filled?
These awards seem designed to appeal to pseudo-hardcore gamers-the gaming equivalent of the "punk" who knows everything about Rancid and Operation Ivy, but has never heard of Blitz because they haven't been recommended by a magazine. Thanks to places like Penny Arcade, there's a thriving market of fanboys and teenagers who think Final Fantasy 6 and Snes roms are old school gaming and Japanese RPGS are underground indie games
Having said that, I don't see what the big fuss is over the OGL. 3Ed at times steals wholesale from Black Isle's SPECIAL system-most notably with feats, and I've no doubt other of the changes are taken from other gaming systems. As such, it seems WOTC's main aim with the OGL is not to aid it's fans, but to distance itself from any claim on other people's intellectual property
I used to work as a tester at an independent game company. I think we had one copy at the office of each of the games we played on the LAN at lunchtime. Pirate 3DS Max copies and plugins were in use. Talking to a few people who also work at a variety of studios, I've found that this is apparently a normal course of events. Hell, the developers of Farcry got raided a week ago for pirate software. Bearing this in mind, who are developers to complain about piracy?*
*Note, I'm not condoning it, but I think they need to take the mote out of their own eye first
Sadly, like many gameplay innovations, realistic characters are ultimately going to be limited by sales. Why? Because most people don't want the kind of well developed characters you can see in some games. The biggest consumers of story driven games are those who play Japanese RPGs, which are in general characterised by shallow, art driven character development, "badass" ambiguously gendered villians with execrable dialogue, angsty prettyboy heroes, and enormous polygon breasts. Ultimately, a designer's job is to create a product that sells, and while games continue to be played by socially maldeveloped acne ridden bullied 15 year olds, Sephiroth and Cloud will always be more popular than The Nameless One and Irenicus
Mozilla-Uses around 40 MB of RAM in processes.
IE-Uses around 15MB of RAM in process
Mozilla-Poorly designed history, slow, tedious to use and access, often completely fails to include sites
IE-Easy to use, responsive and intuitive history
I feel that sometimes the Open Source community has a blind spot, in that it's seemingly incapable of admitting a Microsoft product might be better in a certain aspect. Because of this, these features never get fixed. To do so would be to admit Microsoft might have done something right. It's reminiscent of creationism in it's lack of reason
One of the business plans mooted by their live team is for content(eg new monsters, classes, spells, and items) to be freely available to all, all small episodic(but professionally made*) modules using this content to be downloadable for around $5-10 each. It's not really a surprising move, when you consider the idea of episodic content has been integral to P&P RPGs and card games since the 70s. All the computer industry has lacked is a suitable distribution medium, which the internet(and mroe specifically widespread broadband) now provides
*Mind you, considering the quality of the average NWN player made content, Daikatana looks like a neglected masterpiece
One moment Gates is all capitalist businessman, the next he's attempting to piss all over the market via government controls. Anyway, shouldn't it be Xerox and Apple suing for plagiarism?

That's good. Hopefully Valve will start supporting it sometime as well
Their RAM is fairly crap, especially for OC'ing. As this seems to be aimed at those desiring performance, why not jsut stick with Samsung?
It's SCO Linux
Doctors vists are a great way to get piece of mind, which IMO is well worth the cost/hassle.
Surely the whole point of hypochondria is that they don't want peace of mind?
Who did they think was keeping the medical spammers afloat all this time?
Our country is doing quite well as it is, so why do we need this "voting" business? That sort of thing can only harm our unity and national security
The Japanese like robots, underage schoolgirls and wierd dancing games
You trusted Derek Smart? *Nelson laugh*
They've still got that after x years of socialism?

I know all the stuff in NWN is WOTC IP. I'm saying 3E "borrows" from the mechanics of the Fallout games

When a developer makes a really, really good game, most people like to talk about him in a good way
Yeah, I heard people still mention Daikatana every time they hear about Romero
But Trias and Ravel were extremely underdeveloped. Anyway, I though Fh'jull was the evil one mentioned by Deionarra, and Ravel the neutral
