disaster recovery, is the process i document and test in the case of a flood, fire, tornado, hurricane, earth quake, volcano, so on, a disaster!

now, my documentation and testing is for our servers (Win and HP-UX), workstations are sacrificial, and would be replaced without recovery

TFA says this old host OS is needed for the "Upgrade" version of Vista, i am pretty sure the "Upgrade" version of 98 needed a 95 host OS installed first

OCS (Oracle Collab Suite) is the biggest piece of crap I have ever, ever worked on....

I have been reading and reading these posts bash Exchange/pro-Exchange

bash of what OSS has/doesn't have

hey I would kill to get Exchange 5.5 back over this OCS crap we run right now

    examples:

first example my old Exchange information store Database was less than 15 GB
current OCS information store database over 160 GB

my old 5.5 machine was in place for over 4 years (not up, but in place)
in the last two year before I downed it after the OCS migration it crashed once!
and this was because of the Outlook 2003 client malformed a server side rule, that stopped the Informatin Store, M$ had a hotfix for it, under a day it was back stable and happy....

our OCS is a three tier install, three RedHat AS 2.1 hosts
these are $1200 each/annual paid Linux OS because Oracle will not support its app run on a "free distro" (way to go RedHat very smart)
now we have run this install for a year and a month, and Oracle has had two major patches, and has now obsoleted the version. i HAVE TO!! completely upgrade an product that is less than 2 years old, M$ isnt even that cold

in this last year i have opened over 20 TAR's with Oracle because of all in the issues i have had with the systems

more than 6 of these have had the Oracle engineers completly stumped the rest have been over come, 4 or 5 very went anywhere at all and the issues are still broken, but now i am running an un-supported version (a supported version when the TAR was open, yet all the same un-supported now)

I know one of my issues was fixed by a stop of the Application services and reboot of the Host OS, reboot Linux to fix an issue with an App wtf???

my Postfix + Anomy + Spamassassin + ClamAv on Fedora Core 3 has not had to have the host OS rebooted for over 8 months, and about 8 months ago we have a power failure, so i bet that OSS Postfix box would have been up for over a year had that not happend

dont, dont, dont bring up any part of the OCS, and may it fail and all customers have their money returned and their asses kissed by Oracle for such a shitty product, i hate it!!!

it sucks ballz and i would rather run Exchange 5.5

a paid copy of a Linux distro to use as a desktop is silly, a paid copy of a linux distro to use a a server, to run a product like, lets say Oracle, is a totaly different story. i am a net/sys admin, i have 36 hosts running as servers 13 of these run Linux, the rest winders i am MS cert and RedHat cert i have not called MS support at this current job (but i did call them once, a story not for this thread) i have never called RedHat support. we do not have a ongoing support contract with MS, only the original cost of OS/CALs all the other crap but we did, buy Enterprise Linux, and the way up2date and the rhn work (as far as i understand) is that you do have to pay yearly to keep RedHat Enterpise OS compliant and have updates available if you do not, up2date no longer works (i am sure there are ways around this) now, of my 13 linux hosts, 7 run paid Enterpise vers of RedHat (AS 2.1, AS 3, ES 3, so on...), but this is NOT becuase we want or need access to RedHat support, it is because Oracle will not support thier Database and Application server on free versions of linux so and correct me if i am wrong, but i do not believe the draw to a paid Enterprise Linux distro is because net/sys admins want to have Suse or RedHat tech support availble to them, but is is because companies like Oracle get in bed with the pay distro vendor for certification, and if i was Novell/Suse or RedHat that is what i would want but wait.... isn't this the beef with MS?

I think that like you there where people in the late 1930's on through the 40's who thought being able to share all of man's vast knowledge over television wave would make us all smarter and spread enlightenment. Instead we get cow eye eaters on "Fear Factor" and complete crap like "American Idol 2" The radio was/is a great way to share information and news, people turned into "The Lone Ranger" or "Howard Stern", television was/is a great way to share information and news, people tuned into "The Honeymooner's", "The Simpson's", and "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" thus the internet was/is a great tool to share information and news, people go to www.joecartoon.com and www.homestarrunner.com And I am not trying to dog any of these shows or sites, entertainment is fun and we all need it, but what I am trying to say is technology is not a end all, having the tool does not mean you will be smarter or instantly obtain knowledge, but using the tools available and having a desire to learn is the key. As far as the parent...I don't have a lot to say...an article (regardless of how screwy the stats) that states the internet is used by the younger generation, is like saying energy bars are eaten by predominantly athletic people, or that the older generation seem to be the predominate market that buys and drinks Ensure its just a blah parent, and I am not funny enough yet to have a sig
