March 14th of 2003 I was laid off from a company I had worked at for more than 2 years. Seeing as how the economy was still very shaky then, I settled in with the idea that I would be unemployed for a long time. I put my resume on Monster (among [many] other sites), and on April 14th, exactly one month later, I started a new job that I got through Monster. Lateral pay move, even. It worked for me!
I read the jokes about Universal Soldier, super soldiers etc etc...but once we start down that path, how far are we from genetically engineered soldiers?
I find it interesting that we went from thinking black holes were rare, to thinking black holes are pretty common, but super massive black holes are rare, to black holes are pretty common and we think there are super massive black holes at the center of every galaxy.
I don't know about you, but I find the phrase "the black hole is feeding" somewhat unsettling.
If you have an answering machine, try recording thisS.I.T. (Special Information Tone) just before your regular greeting message. At least it will confuse your mother-in-law, even if some PD (Predictive Dialer) softwares can get around it somehow.
The three well-known tones have the frequencies 985.2 Hz, 1370.6 Hz, and 1776.7 Hz.
Well, just for grins, I tried to calculate the postage. USPS barked since the package weight went over 70 lbs. UPS blew up because it was over 150 lbs. I got discouraged and stopped looking:(
...unless you start a chain reaction in the 'atmosphere' and incinerate the whole planet. Wasn't there a certain amount of uncertainty about the potentially global atmospheric effects of detonating a nuclear device when the time came to do that for the first time?:D
Wilst reducing the chances of life on Europa, it is not ruling it out completely, as there are terrestrial extremophile bacteria which thrive in highly acid environments.
Key word being terrestrial. What about life forms based on silicon and sulphur (as opposed to carbon and oxygen). The theories are there, and I think we have merely begun to scratch the surface of what different kinds of 'life' may be out there.
While this may be true, ethanol is a renewable fuel source, and I think you have to weigh in a fact that we're actually depleting the amount of oil and gas, while corn is (for all intents and purposes) never-ending.
And I'm sure there will be a point in time when the non-renewable sources (gasoline, diesel) will have too high of a cost-to-produce/profit-to-sell ratio, and the street price of 1g of ethanol will be cheaper than 1g of gasoline.
If, of course, the major oil companies don't patent all the technology (we do know how brilliant the patent office is...) and prevent anyone from developing the technology further.
How about Windoze? I bet we need to quit saying Micro$loth and Micro$erf.
By the way, what happened to www.micros0ft.ky? Were they litigated into oblivion?
I remember my dad had an old Ericsson NMT450 (re-branded Volvo). It was 'luggable' with a 10lb battery part, a 10lb phone part, and you could feel the heat radiate from the antenna. But man, they were cool at the time, and since the NMT450 band was operating on a relatively 'low' frequency, it was reachable almost everywhere (covering 85% of Sweden compared to GSM which only covers just over half).
What about living directly under a ~40kV power line?

I agree - I think it's hard enough to write non-obfuscated code, so why try to obfuscate it more?
"Watch it, or I'll send you a Limburger-email!"
Oh yay! With that $25 tax refund, I'll be stylin'!

I couldn't agree more.

I can imagine the outrage - not only do we have to spend our TIME receiving telemarketing calls, but also spend MONEY doing the same.
I wonder if it would be ok to change the name to the more U.S. Southern sounding Linders.
That's pretty fdash gdash?
Oops, did I cause that site to be /.-ed now?
*imagines a jet fighter with 10,000 stamps on it*

The morality of THIS endeavor is a subject for a separate discussion, I believe.

I wonder if Solaris 10 will run on my Ultra 1.

It takes about 30% more energy to produce a gallon of ethanol that one gets out of burning that same gallon of ethanol.
What's the equivalent numbers for gasoline and diesel?

How I miss my Game&Watch double-screen Donkey Kong (1982)! *nostalgic sigh*
