    What MS is going is great for customers, but they have no legal requirement to do so.

    This is MS being good.

    Interesting tangent...

    My city (US) is implementing cameras in the major red light intersections. If your car is photographed running a red light, you WILL get a ticket in the mail...

    My understanding is that you can only get out of it if you can PROVE that someone else was driving.

    The point the GP is probably trying to make is...

    This slashdot article is basically saying "well, i dont' know what happened... Eric Raymond complained almost a year ago and still nothing has changed!". As if by magic the poster expected all FOSS developers to drop what they were doing and create the perfect GUI printer system for Linux.

    Sorry but it doesn't happen that way.

    Actually, I liked the GP analagy...

    If I buy GTA3 for one console, why should I have to buy it for any other console or pc I want to play it on?

    It is the same argument of VHS vs DVD. If I own a VHS copy of a movie, it really bugs me that the movie industries want me to pay them again for THE SAME MOVIE!

    Disclaimer: No, I have not RTFA...

    There is no "theft of MitMover's work". The independant contractor in his own free time was working on creating a competing product.

    By your logic, Open Office is stealing the work of MS on its Office suite...

    Further, when I contract with a company, they have NO influence on what side projects I do. I would probably be offended if they even asked me to stop working on a personal project.

    I have glanced through the Napster to go website, and am still confused...

    If I download music thru the napster service and put the music on my compatable portable player, how does my player know if I cancel my Napster to Go subscription?

    Would I be required to 'sync' my player every day????

    Yahoo is not just a search engine. I know lots of people that automatically think of sites like maps.yahoo.com, or autos.yahoo.com, or finance.yahoo.com, or anything_that_I_need_to_do_online.yahoo.com instead of other services... Yahoo is still strong in a lot of fields.

    Interesting... I guess the good folks at microsoft didn't feel like trying to nail down all the spyware associated with Kazaa and decided to just remove the whole program instead... I bet that pisses off Sharman Networks!

    regarding your aside, I am curious... When I ran the MS Anitsypware prog, it detected kazaa and I told it to ignore. It did not mess up my installation, are you saying that it messed up kazaa even tho you told it to ignore, or that you forgot to tell the prog to ignore kazaa?

    The sites they are going after are not just hosting links, they are running trackers. They did not shut down sites like Suprnova, Suprnova decided to close on its own for fear of future action. The links are not the problem, the tracker is what is getting ppl in trouble.

    As a sibling poster wrote, your attitude would be understandable if you had actually paid for the email service, or if they claimed it was a completed product.

    You can get vonage where you are, you just can't have a local number... but you could get a toll free number for only $5 more a month... that will allow ppl in your local area to call you free. And when they ask why u are giving out your toll free number, it gives you a great opportunity to help ppl understand that they have choices for thier phone service!

    If you had RFTA (Yes, I know, this is /.) you would see that MPAA Chief Dan Glickman actually has a subcription to Netflix.

    I think that is cool... Netflix is a great idea, and now that they are starting to get some competition, it can only be good for us, the consumer.

    You don't seem to get the parent's point.

    The idea is for the "source" to host torrent files instead of having to host mirrors of thier content. This allows the users of the content to share in the bandwidth costs.

    The way torrents work, its really not possible to download a torrent file from a legit source (for instance your GTA demo) and end up downloading a mis-labelled file.

    Google would be better for most of this...

    You are absolutly right! Why didn't I see that before, lets just use Google's infinite bandwidth and hosting instead of trying to come up with an alternative. Or did I miss the point and give fuel to your flame?

    This doesn't just apply to MySQL. This is actually how indexes work. More work for adds/deletes, but less work for querys using the indexes.

    Your scenario would cause performance problems in any database.

    We have a leap year to compensate for those minutes.

    The parent wasn't asking why the earth has 23:56 per day, the parent wanted to know where the extra minutes were.

    I believe my answer was more helpful to the parent than the other replies.
