  1. Re:Matrix Online Beta on Online World News · · Score: 1

    The news post says:

Starting next week FilePlanet will be giving away 20,000 Beta Slots for The Matrix Online. The Beta starts early next month, and between now and then there will be many opportunities to gain access to the closed Beta.

I think you are being way too picky with how he words it. He states that the 20,000 slots being added to the beta starts next month. In fact he even states that the closed beta is currently going on when he says there will be many opportunities to gain access to it BEFORE the 20,000 slots are added.

I don't see how it could be doomed. So long as google doesn't implement a maximum file size to incoming e-mails, what would prevent anyone from sending an email to a gmail account with a large file to leave on the google system for any period of time?

This question has been asked in various places but no one seems to have a solid answer. Does anyone know the pricing details for the US (and UK) releases? Here is what I have found so far:

    Retail:

    Collector's Edition (US): $79.99 (source: ebgames.com)
Standard DVD (UK): £39.99 (source: amazon.co.uk)

Granted, I haven't RTFA, so if this was addressed in there, feel free to mod appropriately.

But, I don't see this as likely for the simple fact that VU would not want to miss the holiday rush. I know I'm probably simply stating the obvious here, but its a source of reassurance for me since I want to play this game so badly.

One question I have though after reading recent news about the "deluxe" edition containing CS:Source - will the regular version have Counter-Strike included for free?

  13. tried hard for good outdoor vehicle combat but... on Unreal Tournament 2004 Demo Released · · Score: 1

I was really hoping for solid outdoor vehicle based combat (which is what they seemed to be going for) but unfortunately there is one huge mistake that I see that will prevent UT2K3 from ever reaching the level of gameplay that Halo has: game speed.

UT is a very very fast game. The run speed alone makes you feel like your flying. Combine this with vehicles games that should make for huge battles over linking bases together (Onslaught), and instead of solid gameplay you just get a mess.

I realize that many people prefer fast paced gameplay but I really think that this game would truly shine if the speed of everything-walking,vehicles,aircraft-were cut in half (at least) for game types like Onslaught, which I think is an excellent and almost flawless gampleay concept otherwise.

What makes a public source desireable then? What I mean is what can you do with a public source and what can you do with the engine source, the difference between them. For example since this isn't the engine source does that mean lets say you can't change the way the 3d animation system works? But you can say, add the ability to have a wider range of animations to choose from?

  16. Re:Master & Commander? on Return of the King Leads Oscar Nominations · · Score: 1

My main problem with Msster & Commander was how inconsistently paced it was. Long drawn out ship chases which accomplished very little in story, character development, and most of all action! The two major action scenes were muddled and confusing, especially the final fight. It was plagued by the "quick shots with a fast moving blurry camera to simulate action" direction that hurts so many action scenes these days. It was an interesting concept, no doubt. It really gave you a good feel for life on a ship in those times. But it felt so drawn out and poorly paced that I was waiting for the movie to end after the first 45 minutes. I was quite surprised it recieved so many nominations as well.

I've been looking at a lot of old Viking info, but unfortunately there isn't as much easily available information about the details of the landing as there are about Spirit and Opportunity. Were the viking missions any easier to conduct? And why/how was the landing so different? Why wasn't that type of landing (reminiscent of apollo moon landings, it seemed) used for the rover missions? It just seems so radically different. Here we have an airbagged package slamming into mars at up to 40G's (well, 2-3G's this time) and yet the viking was a landing craft which I can't imagine being able to take a fraction of that force.
