There was a point in my original post, not one that hasn't been repeated a million times over, but I find that the only people who enjoy Linux are the ones who like a challenge getting stuff to work. Personally I'll stick with my BSoD, at least there is the "restart" button.

The majority of users who use search engines are just end users anyways and appreciate the simplicity of Google's page design. I go to Yahoo, Altavista and Lycos and there's half a million links all over the place. I go to Google, and there's a nice clean page with the text box smack right in the middle.

    Visual appeal still counts.

Google has been successful due to original thinking. It needs to ride its wave of reputation now rather than later in order to snatch up some of the finest minds to stay on top of this industry that is all about originality and fresh ideas. They seem to be on the right track by providing the work environment that they do.

But no more stuff like that Friendster wannabe site.

  14. Re:$15 a month on HP Dumped Napster for Apple · · Score: 2, Interesting

I'm sorry, I always thought preference in music was a subjective matter. That's why I don't think the genres I like (which happen to be a lot of genres) "suck".

As for not looking hard enough, perhaps you're right. I was a lot more into music a few years ago in my teens, and I've found out that the farther away from mainstream, the more appealing the music out there is.

  15. Rich people. on Brits Still Working on Stinky Email · · Score: 1

I can't see this going mainstream. This will start and probably end as a luxury item for people who either have a ton of money to spend or just want to get every single peripheral out there. Then the option adding scent to your email can be available just like the option of having a voice/webcam feature in MSN conversations.

  18. Re:There has been brighter ideas than this. on Brits Still Working on Stinky Email · · Score: 1

And what smells great on one person to person A, may smell downright stinky on the same person to person B. In any case it's a gamble at best, and perfume and cologne are best worn in events where everyone is wearing them (prom, etc.) so the overall smell in the atmosphere is already saturated.

  19. There has been brighter ideas than this. on Brits Still Working on Stinky Email · · Score: 5, Insightful

The sense of smell is perhaps the most diverse when it comes to preferences. Just think of all the colognes/perfumes out there that end up delivering the opposite effect. Unless you know exactly what the user likes, giving them a scented email may look creative but runs the risk at the same time of offending the receiver.

  20. $15 a month on HP Dumped Napster for Apple · · Score: 5, Funny

Equivalent to going out and buying a CD every month. With the rate of quality music being released these day, buying once a month is way too frequent for my taste.

Personally I have gotten most of the pre-Internet era music from Kazaa Lite, so paying $1 a song would suit my needs much better. Or I could just stick with Kazaa Lite some mroe.
