I'm thrilled to see that analog media are still going strong. Digital audio may be more convenient, and sound indistinguishable from analog, but I do sometimes wonder what musicologists will think of us in 50 or 100 years when the vast majority of music that we have produced in the late 20th century has completely disappeared because we all thought digital was 'forever'.
Security equals security for *your* files, and Unix can't do that, so Unix must be just as insecure as Windows.
Only when you define "security" in your own, narrow way, and then never implicitly say what that definition is in your 'article'.
Now that Ive got a little bit more time, let me explain why I didnt like the movie, and why it takes away from any potential enjoyment I might have had for future episodes. First of all, as I said, I did enjoy the series. I found the culture interesting, and the characters to be deep, complex "real people". In the movie, though, Wash was "just" the pilot. Kaylee was just there as a love interest for Simon. Inara was just Mal's old girlfriend. There was no sense of the life of these characters that we know from our backstory. In short, lame characterization, pointless deaths of main characters, and the whole "River the Reaver Slayer" chic just left me flat.
Conversly, now that we do know "secret" of the Reavers, the Alliance becomes "just" another Evil Empire. Before Serenity, there was enough moral ambiguity in the Fireflyverse to accommodate a number of points of view. Now, though, there's good guys in white hats and bad guys in black, and I dont consider that terribly interesting.
Considering all the posts which contain something to the effect of "Kari is hot", Id be curious how she (and Jamie and Adam) feel about the iconic stature they have attained in the geek community. I know quite a few geek girls who lust after the guys, too;-)
A jpeg is a compressed representation of an image. A SVG is instructions on how to reproduce the image. It's analgous to the difference between an mp3 and a MIDI file. With a jpeg or an mp3, the producer of the file decides at what detail (bitrate, resolution, etc.) the representation will be. With a SVG or a MIDI file, the users are free to taylor it to their needs.
Some of the frescoes from Pompeii are particularly revealing. There are thousands of works like these out there, most of which were hidden in museum collections by prudish 18th and 19th century collectors. But a little research is always fun to do. It's probably easier than finding good porn with Google;-)
Every time Ive tried to apt-get dist-upgrade, Gnome has ended up broken. Ive talked to several other people who've had the same trouble. Don't know why... It's the only real problem Ive ever had with apt-get.
I'd fork out the cash to buy Word Perfect in a second if they had a CLI interface on it. There are times when I'd just *kill* to be able to open a.doc file without having to pull up X Windows. Does anybody know if there is an option out there to do just this?
My dad is nearing 60 now, and he's dealt with computers for almost 40 years. He programmed in college. He was a Unix sysadmin for AT&T. And yet he still calls up every weekend with some idiotic question about his Win98 box. I love my dad, but sometimes I just want to scream, "You've done this for longer than I've been alive! You know better than I do!".
Maybe I should switch him over to linux or BSD. He might feel more at home there:-\

I saw all of the Firefly series prior to seeing Serenity. I liked the series. I just couldnt stand the movie.
Ya know, seeing Serenity cured me of any further desire to indulge in the act of watching Firefly...
So would supporting their own stable of political lobbyists make Google automatically evil, no matter what cause they're championing?
I imagine she probably quit after this, or after being hit in the face with boiling hot candy in the Exploding Jawbreaker myth...
Perdita is named after a character from Shakespeare, just like all the moons of Uranus.
ACK! Flash! My eyes! My eyes!

A friend of mine has a saying. "Never attribute to Evil that which you can attribute to mere stupidity.' Words to live by, I say.
Wrong planet, wrong moon. Europa is a moon of Jupiter. Titan is a moon of Saturn.

Ever try upgrading Gnome using apt-get? Guess not...
Obviously this person doesn't even know what 'irony' really is. It's like goldy or bronzy, right?
The moon is named for Helene, the goddess not Helen of Troy
Why-bang-que?
Does anybody know the status of Skipstone? It's a Mozilla based browser that's much lighter than Firefox, but development seems to have stalled.
That's why I carry an executible copy of Putty on my usb keychain drive, along with my SSH keys. Just plug it in and go!

Oh, no, it's the *meek*... Blessed are the meek. It's nice for them to get something, because they have a hell of a time.
