There ARE a lot of diverse cultures in the U.S. but you may not be forced to see them if you go only to typical tourist areas. Of course, if that's all you do in a foreign country, you probably won't get much of the actual culture either.
That's the only solution I can see -- get enough grass roots support and a sympathetic senator or three to push through a law that specifically allows for free use. In fact, I seem to remember a/. article a while about about at least 1 attempt to do just that.
If this card is generating more objects then are useable, it's overpowered. Create a cheaper, lower-powered version that people are actually willing to pay for and they may have a winner.
Right now, nvidia's plan to partner with havok is looking far more appealing because I can buy a geforce 6600 for $100 and dedicate it to physics.

I love the many comments in this topic about how people will switch to linux.
And I'll bet it does drive a few people to look into it. For about a month.
Some few of those will keep it.
The vast majority will be driven crazy by the little things that are lacking from desktop linux and will either find a better cracked version or break down and buy an OEM copy of Windows. And be left with a bitter taste in their mouth for linux.
There have been many/. articles about the shortcomings of linux as a mainstream desktop solution, so I won't go into them here. Suffice it to say, if you aren't some kind of delusional fanboy, you can see the problems easily enough. [Quick, mod me down fanboys!]
Its a shame there isn't a Linus equivalent helping linux on the useability side of things. =(
There have been bands/singers performing other people's work for a very, very long time.
That said, I definitely have a lot more respect for the performers that write their own music.

Virtual desktops? Do you have any concept of how confusing that would be to most people? (Do you have any idea how many free virtual desktop programs you can download if you really want the feature?)
Sadly, I had to turn that option off. Seems that some of the ads include javascript and the like -- so just hiding them doesn't stop ads from popping up when I accidentally click on an empty part of the page.
Actually, I've had far fewer frustrations with securom then with starforce.
I can live with some copy protection. I don't agree with the idea, but I can accept some compromise.
However starforce has caused me too many problems for me to accept it. I've written several publishers/developers to tell them that if their game includes starforce, I won't buy it. (And of course, appropriate information as to why I won't buy it.)
I'm not going to argue the overpriced claim. I'll leave that to someone else.
However, most people won't care to match exactly. There are enough different companies that sell enough different PCs that it is possible to find something "good enough" for FAR LESS then the closest Apple offering.
Alienware aren't THAT far overpriced either--if you were to buy the exact same hardware. But no one BUYS the exact same hardware. You save $50 here and $100 there and end up paying 1/2 for a comparably performing machine without a few things that you'd never use anyway.
Compare instead a $400 dell to a $600 minimac. (And note the cost difference.)
The "DRM enabled monitors" are a requirement of the media conglomerates and apply ONLY to HD-DVD/BluRay playback on your computer. And guess what. They won't license any OTHER OS to perform said playback without the same DRM.
(You may claim there will be 3rd party hacks--but who is to say there won't be a 3rd party windows player with the same hacks?)
Everything crashing? Either you're buying crap hardware, or you've loaded your machine full of spyware, adware, etc etc.
My windows xp computer crashes almost never. I used to run it months at a time without rebooting. Now I hibernate it at night to save power, but the windows servers at work go months without rebooting.
Now, it's all well and good to prefer another operating system. There are certainly good points to OSX and *nix. But pull your head out man. Saying Windows BSODs constantly is like saying Macs are stupid because they only have 1 mouse button.
"but I'm not particularly interested in web-content that turns my PC into a small, lo-res television complete with 16 minutes of ads per hour."
If only someone could figure out a way to get that content from your PC onto your bigscreen TV.
That would probably take someone pretty nerdy to figure it out though. If only there were a website that attracted lots of "nerds" where you could ask questions and discuss things like that.
So I can steal your forumla... err algortithm for creating a new medicine or a new machine, and you're fine with that as long as I don't steal your actual machine?
Many people in China and Russia could not afford a legal version of the movie. If there were no piracy there, it wouldn't even be an option for them.
Throw them in with all the "lost sales" of people who would never have paid full price for the movie.
I believe it was out ages ago--and promptly replaced by more detailed 3rd party skins.

ATI is coming out with one, but you'll have to buy a windows vista media pc (not parts) computer to use it.

The simplest solution is to completely remove inter-player trading.
Then everything your character has is his. No gold farming--the most you could do would be character selling.
Of course, this would also force a change in MMORPG game design, but quite frankly the grinding has got to go anyway.
For starforce, http://www.glop.org/starforce/ has a pretty good list.
Walmart will scan photos for $10 for 40 negatives.
The catch -- you have to ask for an "8X10" scan, and they may or may not do it for you.
(You get a ~2 megapixel scan normally)
