  1. Re:Liars on 2004 Election Weirdness Continues · · Score: 2, Insightful

See, women do have control over their own bodies-- they can choose to not have sex. Abortion as a method of birth control is murder. Abortion for rape/incest victims or those where the life of the mother is threatened, that's fine. But just getting abortions because "Oops, hehe, I got pregnant again!", that's BS.

I hear that goddamned slogan, "A Woman's Right To Choose" being thrown around in the media and I instantly do a replace on "Choose" with "Murder". Because when it comes down to it, it's really just "A Woman's Right To Murder".

Agreed, for the most part. I'm about as left wing as one can get, but I still have a firm standing belief in Christianity. The trick there is to not let it cloud your judgements. However, I don't think abortion and religion should even cross paths. When you think about it logically, it's murder.

The thing is, making it illegal would do more harm than good. Remember when we had that big "WAR ON DRUGS"? Man, that sure stopped people from doing drugs. You can even ask my ex-friends. Just try to catch them before 4:20 PM. Instead, I propose mandatory counselling for the woman before and after the abortion. And it should be meaningful, with previous aborters there to share their experiences. Abortion is not easy on a woman, no matter how calloused she thinks she is. It has been well known to lead to suicide.

Another problem I have with the Christian view, is their belief - and W has publicly endoursed this - that "Abstinance is the only way." Please people. Kids, are kids. They're going to have sex whether you want them to or not. At least teach them to be responsible. When I was younger, I planned on waiting till marriage. Riiiiight. One thing always leads to another. Thankfully, I was smart enough to use protection.

And finally, one last point: Here in Omaha, one day I saw a string of anti-abortion protestors about a mile or two long. Very impressive. They were holding signs that said, "Abortion kills children." I thought, this statement is true. However, being that a good majority of them were most likely proponents of the war, I thought, if we're going to make this statement, let's not be selective. Let's go across the board. WAR KILLS CHILDREN! "Derrr, No it doesn't. The TV told me they were happy we came in and 'liberated' them."

Ideology is nice, but it's better when backed by facts and common sense. This is something rarely seen in society today. Furthermore, just because you declaire yourself "Conservative" or "Liberal", doesn't mean you need to subscribe to every single belief commonly held by those groups. Let's use that brain that God, or Allah, or Mother Earth, or Evolution, or whatever gave you and think about things a little more.

But, in reference to your questions,

    I refer to the text:

    12. Am I required to keep my research "java compatible?"

No. The license encourages you to innovate and experiment using the java technology core. It is expected that research implementations will not be compatible with the Reference Implementation from Sun. This is ok.

    13. Can I publish my source code at a conference, and in white papers?

Yes, you may publish your work in the usually accepted academic manner as long as you reference the Java Research License and include the correct copyright information.

    14. Can I share my modifications with other researchers?

Yes, provided that the other researchers have accepted the JRL.

    15. Can I distribute binaries of my research code?

Yes. You can distribute your binaries for research purposes under a license of your choice that complies with the terms of the JRL (e.g., includes copyright notices and references the JRL).

That should give you some idea as to what good it could do and what people are expected to do with it.
Java less secure? Doubtful. It already has advantages over languages like C++ because of it's lack of pointers, and low level memory manipulation. Java-specific security issues? Also doubtful. And why would people want the source code? See above.

Hope that answers some questions. I'm not an expert, but I am learning Java and it's actually quite fun after you get into the Swing of it (really bad pun intended).

And honestly, I don't even like Kerry. I agree, he really didn't get me all that excited. Something I was excited about was replacing the current misleader we have now. I'm not giving up by any means. Just a little depressed is all. I think something good did come out of this all though. So many people are becoming politically aware, it is really inspiring. I, myself did not give a shit about politics until the talks began about a war in Iraq. After that I was completely changed.

I think everything will be ok, we'll just have to fight extra hard to right the wrongs and keep Democracy from slipping anymore. As to the part about mentioning my Grandma, please don't take that as me thinking bad of her. We sometimes get into heated debates, then we laugh afterwards. I'm only using her as an example of the effect of the media on people, and how it has effected this race.

And by the way, I do not think the Rock Against Bush tour is what you think it is. It is put on by Fat Wreck Chords head and NOFX bassist/singer Fat Mike. I thought it was a great effort to get kids my age (late teens and twenties), who are normally apathetic towards politics, to vote. If nothing else, it got me more fired up.

I hope that addresses most everything. If I missed any concearns, sorry. I will be looking forward to 2008, while fighting for 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007. Hope to see you there.

Nebraska voter here. As I very well know my state would not vote Democrat, I started to wonder why this is. Or why this country has been so strongly divided. I had a long conversation with my Grandma last night, and it showed a lot of insight.

Nearly every arguement she used had to do with religion or something the TV had told her. She was still hanging on to ideas that Iraq collaborated with Al-Queda and that there could still be WMDs.

And she's not even really a Fox watcher. When I mentioned the 100,000 dead civilians in Iraq, she still refused to believe that they were not happy that we came in, and that the only ones who didn't want us there were the "radicals".

My roommies on the other hand, had different reasons. They are all very intellectual and logical thinkers, but they also share a common trait: They're racist biggots and classic examples of upper-middle class white people who fear change. I know a lot of that has to do with upbringing, but I was raised in a Republican household, and I turned out completely different. I guess there's a lot there to ponder.

What really confuses me is how, even with all the grassroots campaigns, like the Rock Against Bush tour, the big names openly speaking out against Bush, and even with all the hard evidence on the news where the mistakes speak for themselves (Nope, no WMDs here), and even such a huge voter turnout, that it still wasn't enough.

It's really kind of depressing when you think about it. Call me a sore loser, but when you give it your all and it isn't good enough, you're still a loser. I'm going to be depressed for about 4 years.

2.) What about WinTV cards, and the like? Is it even considered technically television? It's computing, but using television signals.

3.) Are there upsides to this? Like, less advertising? If the BBC is pulling in mandatory cash from its viewers, then they probably don't need too many adverts to produce revenue, wheras MTV has adverts what seems like every 5 minutes. I do notice the difference in balance there, as opposed to, say, Fox News.

4.) This one is more on-topic: How the hell do "they" know if I have an "internet-capable" PC? "What? My PC isn't Internet-capable! I ripped out the NIC and Modem months ago!" Computers are not single piece units like TVs. I can build a PC from parts, which I imagine would be extremely difficult to track the flow of.
