  2. Foolishness on Recording Industry Hopes To Hinder CD Burning · · Score: 1

The people hurting the RIAA aren't the onesy-twosy CD-copying Joe Users that they're ultimately going to screw with this, it's the CD factories overseas that mass-produce thousands upon thousands of bootleg CD's. And you can be sure they'll have no problem getting around such limitations.

Sorry, but I think you're reading far too much into this. Episodes I & II just plain sucked ass.

Irrelevant. They've achieved significant market penetration with the XBox, which was their goal.

Whether or not they make money with their console this time around is only of secondary import.

Bandwidth = resource #1. Free? Nope. Meaning someone has to pay for it, ergo the great-grandparent's post about how everything should be free, etc, etc was without much merit.

Time = resource #2. Free? Not really. Time wasted looking for trailers and downloading them at shitty speeds after finding them is time a) I could be charging to a client or b) I could be spending enjoying said trailer, demo, patch for a game or with my loved ones.

    "It's ok. I believe ya."

And I believe at this point you're just trolling, now go away.

    Why are you modded insightful?

FilePlanet and the rest of the *planet file services are just that - services. For less than the price of a couple of burgers or a movie ticket each month I can get any of the patches, demos, movies, or other related multimedia without having to worry about where or how fast I'm going to download it.

Bandwidth isn't free, damnit, and neither is my time, which is my most precious commodity. For the convenience of having all the crap I want to download gathered under one roof, services like these have proven invaluable to me.

And just for the record, I'm not employed by any such company or any of its affliliates.

  7. Hot damn on EA Close To Finally Announcing Xbox Live Support? · · Score: 1

Wonderful news. It's a great time to be an XBox owner. What with many more cross-platform titles like the GTA3 series hitting the XBox (albeit some time ago), some stellar (if you believe the hype) RPG's coming up like Fable, and now this...

  8. Re:Far Cry in stores tomorrow on Counter-Strike - Condition Zero Finally Released · · Score: 1

I'll second this. I bought FC yesterday and, let me tell you, the Next-Gen FPS titles have arrived. Doom 3 and Half-Life 2? They're now playing catch-up to this amazing title, imho. FarCry is out - it has amazing graphics, and those graphics (in a rare convergence) actually facilitate good gameply instead of just being eye candy. id and Valve's offerings? Nowhere to be seen.

  9. Re:You don't appreciate... on Do Videogames Need More Graphical Grit? · · Score: 1

Get ready for the revolution, then. FarCry is coming, and you won't believe the sense of immersion CryTek's engine is capable of generating. This is their first game, folks, and IMHO these guys have just placed themselves in the upper echelon of game developers along with the likes of id, Valve, and Blizzard.

  10. Third Generation? on Microsoft Announces Vanguard MMORPG · · Score: 1

  13. Love games...no one to enjoy them with... on Losing Interest In Games - A Natural Progression? · · Score: 1

I'm in a similar situation. I'm 29, single (but dating) and *want* to love games as much as I used to, but frankly I can't anymore (and here's the key) unless I'm enjoying it with other people. Playing a game by myself just isn't what it used to be. The fact is that most of my friends are married and have very little time for games or simply aren't gamers at all anymore. That's something I took for granted as a teen on up through my college years: the abundance of gamers that ran in my circle of friends. I could find a pick up game of at almost any time, day or night. But life changes, and I'm fine with that, and I really cherish those memories. Little did I realize then, as I now do, how important the communal aspect of gaming was to my enjoyment of it. Case

  14. Re:Satellite has one big advantage on Cable TV Versus Satellite TV? · · Score: 1
The consensus on rec.video.satellite.dbs seems to be that weather really doesn't affect image quality (though this may not be true for HD content) but that airplanes, helicopters, birds and people falling off of your roof can and do.

If by "affect image quality" you mean lose your feed entirely, then yes, weather can and does affect satellite tv (DirecTV in my case). A big thunderstorm rolling through town in the summertime has no problem knocking out my signal for the entire duration. It's not really a big deal, though, as long as I'm not watching the last 5 minutes of a CSI...
