    Awww.. what's wrong with "FUDCon"??

Most the people I know that use Linux are doing so strictly out of FUD....

What would you have preferred? "Anti-MS-R-Us-Con"? "Fear the MS: use something you might understand!"

Whatever happened to accountability? It's the tax payers money to begin with.

That's the problem right there. No tax payer has the time & money to do the auditing! I mean.. my portion of that was about $2. And I just don't have the time & energy to audit them for my $2.
Can't I .. like.. hire someone.. to do it for me?

    What? I Do??

Damnit! Okay, I revise this. It's because we can't kick government auditors out of office for not auditing my $2!

    Wait, can we?

  3. A good start on Introducing Children to Computers? · · Score: 1
My daughter is now 5 and has played Everquest, Enemy Territory, Rune, City of Heroes, and now World of Warcraft. Sure, not WELL, but it is definitely getting her acclimated. she started learning letters just to move around and click on things. Now she identifies words as NPC's talk to her in WoW. She LOVES playing all her games as well.. freddy fish, dora, etc. But she is rounded.

Myself, I began in the dos days when I was about 10. Switching out 5" floppies (one for DOS, one for saving, one for wordperfect). That's when it started... when I knew that dir *.exe would search for all executables... and my 45 year old uncle did not.

after that, I did anything computer-related I could, and just fell into everythign else.

I'd have to say that gaming helped me the most. Solving puzzles such as Zelda and Mario, Kings Quests.. they helped me with my current job the most. Do this, then this, to get this. Freddy Fish, I think, is the most ideal way to get kids programming. Do this, then this to make this, which then you can use for this. Isn't that a good start for a programming tree?

This is how I understood it: Oracle has their peoplesoft-ish product.. but it sucks and then some. It has 1 or 2 good features, but for the most part, it's awful. I mean, that's why people WENT to peoplesoft. But.. Peoplesoft has it's OH-MY-GOD-THIS-SUCKS part too. Right before Oracle started threatening to take over, everyone bitched NON STOP about PS. Hell.. it wasn't too long ago that universities were buying peoplesoft, and halfway through implementation said "nuh uh.. this is going to cost us 3x as much as originally stated!" and dumped it. Peoplesoft needed a reorg as is. I'd say take 1 horrid program, 1 mediocre program, merge the best parts together, and VOILA! buy your Database, 3rd party app, and even the app servers from the same person. Could happen. Oh.. the poison pill was because Oracle said "hey, we're not going to support this crap after 1 year & force you to get on ours" ... and all the peoplesoft customers-to-be said "uh, I'm not buying you then." ... but PS had to stay afloat, so the pill was "if you buy now, and Oracle takes over & stops supporting it, you can get 3x your money back." Pretty good money, if you feel like holding on. Of course, this was all just rumours around the Tech Support office for a university depending on PS.

Okay, yes, Gamers enjoy talking to other gamers. But here's the problem: Gamers are becoming too specialized. Understand my office: 12 men over age 40. and me, 25, female. We all like video games. I did Doom2 a little. They all bought Halo2. I have only stopped playing City of Heroes to pick up WoW. The only guy that's closer to me is playing GTA.. the new one. It's no longer "oh, you play games too?" It's "Okay, do you play games like me?" Too bad, too. I was so close....

Proof that we have officially run our of ideas. D) In favor of the "Movies make it better"... Cowboy Bebop: The Movie. What about Fire Walk With Me? Anyone aroudn during that time that can say it made the franchise better/worse?

But this is not even the POINT. Kazaa is not centralized like Napster was. If they raid the home and offices, what is teh worst that could happen? They find some MP3's, sue them for the maximum, put Kazaa out of business. Damn! However.. people still have the executables... they can still file share, can't they? This doesn't stop, Kazaa. It just makes it so we have upgrades only in Open Source. (That is, until Darl decides that he made Kazaa, too)

  13. Re:everquest on Online Gaming for Couples? · · Score: 1

This I'd have to agree with. There are many games my BF & I have played in the last 4 years. It started with me telling him little things in games like Shadowman and MDK.. then when EQ came, we both took turns at playing that. The problem is, we both met other people as well, and it was the subject of a couple arguements. When that got boring, we began playing games over I/M... and that went pretty well, because we were competing as well as talking. So here's my suggestion: If you don't like talking to her, your LDR is NOT going to work, and I suggest giving up now. Let her find someone that will appreciate her, and you can get back to your gaming. If you don't do this, try EQ. She will meet someone she likes more than you (30% female, 70% male, how many of those guys are wealthy nerds needing female companionship & able to socialize online?) and you will get the same result. Not to be bitter... but we all know it happens.
