    Linux is based on the OS that built the worlds phone-nets and later on, InterNet. Your going to compare THAT with Ms. !!

    if *Ms.* (pronounced: mizz) released it's code, it would become a much better program because people who WANTED to work/fix it, would, instead of those who HAVE TO.

    And ask anyone over the last 40+ years, if the money spent on the wars on: Drugs, Crime or Poverty has detered those problems.

    why don't you tell us?

    I'd say they have the same problems.. if not more. If I'm not mistaken, the freebsd project is headed by one person, and much less volunteers than deb.

    Considering sooo many distros are eating-off deb with very little in return, i'm suprised deb is still alive.

    However, everything IS working out as planned, as can be attested to by the growth of distros and users in the linux/unices communities.

    It's called Open Software, and it allows you to modify your own OS-- if some other hacker/programmer hasn't gotten around to doing it for you yet!!

    You NO LONGER need to wait for bill hates to NOT GET AROUND to it-- at all!!

    i notice noone responded to your question *yet* so i'll give me .02 worth.

    nothing *compares*, but you have to compare apples with apples.

    and since debian is well, only debian, i can only add that Synaptic (graphical front end) for apt-get is alot easier to use when you want to install or change alot of programs.

    I also notice quite a few of the *other* distros are implementing apt-get/synaptic with their releases, in addition to whatever else they would normaly have as default (ie urpmi, Kpackage, etc). :)

    I'd rather pay nothing, take that money and either put it towards a hardware router for security (just plug it in).. or save that money for something else fun..and set up a linux software firewall/router (easy, just point&click).

    If people didn't have windoz forced on them when they buy in major oulets, they would get used to linux quicker.

    at least with linux, when you put the effort into fixing it the way you want (note: linux at least has that option!), then we have a functional & hardened box.

    I hope I didn't use tooo many big words there, mr coward :)

    And the only reason they are not one company, is because they both already are accomplishing what they would do under one name.

    In other words, walmart never seriously has attempted to infringe on amazon, nor take-it-over, simply because it would be tooo obvious a move (by the commies), and would ultimately have the same net effect as they do now.

    I mean just look at walmarts standard drab blue-grey store fronts.. with a big RED STAR!!

    And as USUAL, the only ones making any money at amazon, is the higher-ups, like Bozo. All the *real* workers there are paid very poorly and are treated very badly (monitored) and harassed.

    But of course monitoring and harassing is only illegal, if your an individual attempting it...

    The secret is out that communism & capitalism are one in the same.. yes, they both gather all the wealth and power under just a *few* (or should I say, kikes?).

    But thats ok, cause there are 6.5 billion of us, and really only a relatively small amount of you!! :[

    I know this may sound silly, but by purchasing another video card (nVidia) that has FULL linux and windoz support, you'll not only have your 3d games running better than windoz, but you will be supporting linux-- by supporting the companies (like nVidia) who have gone-out-on-a-limb to help free people from the evil-dragoon, and hence give us more choices-- that work.

    Also remember that Suse, as good as she is, is now owned by novell, so the distro is moving more towards specializing in Network applications/servers.

    If i'm not mistaken, 9.2 suse actually *had to* hurry and come out with a second *9.2* called: '9.2 Audio', with sound/video enhancements, because the original 9.2 distro lacked in them so much.

    Vector Linux (based on slackware, a VERY well repsected varient, which I am beginning to think may be the best overall desktop linux out there) seems to be a good package if you like cutting-edge features (like a desktop that shimmers just like a pool, complete with little penguins moving all around and playing in it ;)

    I'd stay away from Knoppix, because again, like suse (and most linux distros actually), has it's *main* purpose, and being installed on your hd and working properly off-the-bat is NOT one of them.

    If you go Debian *proper* tho, you can tweak a box that will have fine audio/video.

They are sending it back down where it came from (lower court), which will either a) *try* to decipher the garbage that came out today, and *make* the supremes happy (which means the supremes will *let-it-stand* next time it gets to them (in what,years?) or..

    b) They will ignore the bastards, (which means that it will be good for us and bad for riaa until the supremes get it again).. but will still allow the scum bags to put our kids in jail and sue them meanwhile!!

    I still think my last sentence, in my first post is the only answer! :)

    that this case is unanimious, but it is being returned to the lower courts ANYWAY!

    Normaly, this court is divided, which was part of my main point, that being divided is not a good way to *settle* things.

    Regardless, making decisions (or split ones) that continueally erode *individual* rights, was my main point above.

    This will of course make them look like the scum they are, and help to hurry up and retire, because they will get bored of trying to *run-the-world*.

    As far as their decision actually *helping* further technological advances.. well I doubt The Court has this in mind..

    And even if so, I don't believe the citizens of the earth want to see these advances made on the backs of kids that are being sued, put in jail, and having their lives ruined.

    It will be much more satisfying to see the Supreme Court of the United States ambused and.. by the CIA or some other capable organization.
