I really hope Mother 1+2 (Earthbound 0+1) comes to America. I missed EB the first time around, and everybody tells me how great it was. Nintendo Puzzle Collection? How hard can that be to translate!?! And is Giftpia really out in Japan? I might just import it if it doesn't come out soon.
When the Eye Toy first shipped, I thought that would be the last time we'd really see it. Sure, they demoed video chat and the like, but lets face it, Sony isn't exactly the best and keeping their promises. The Eye Toy shipped with Play, a series of quirky minigames, and I figured that'd be the end of it. An novelty - an interesting novelty, nonetheless, but a novelty.
And here we stand, a few months later. While it is arguably still a novelty, we've seen Groove, the "real" game the Eye Toy needed, and Chat has been announced, actually delivering on the Sony's promise of video chat. Oh, and third party developers, like Sega, are beginning to show signs of support for the Eye Toy, which I honestly didn't expect.
I'm really excited about Chat. I can see it being popular...I'm just imagining people at the game boards I visit (and who knows, maybe even/.) exchanging their Chat information, and connecting - with video - via PlayStation Net, similair to the way we all exchange Xbox Live Gamertags now. I suppose it could be a huge flop, too, but I'm more optimistic about the Eye Toy now.
Eye Toy has universal appeal. I knew from when I first saw it that it would be popular - especially with the "mainstream" audience. It's a novelty, but one that anyone can have fun with and enjoy. Seeing yourself on TV and using your arms as the controller is simple, intuitive, and fun. Technically, the quality isn't great - but it's good enough. Sony's finally delivering on their promises, and the results are cool - now I'm just imagining what it'd be like if they delivered all the time.
Game Over was dumb. Awful. It just tried waaay too hard. Refering to a mall in "Vice City" does not equal a fanbase of hardcore gamers.
X-Play is much better. It succeeds where other review shows (including Extended Play, its previous life): It's actually entertaining. Most of the other review shows I've seen have nothing but review after review with the occaisonal joke thrown in - it's like watching a gadget show review printer after printer. X-Play has sketches and stuff, usually at least one per episode, along with segments like "Uncomfortable Moments in Gaming" ("The Horror of Song," a piece on awful videogame music, holds a special place in my heart ^_^). It's much more fun to watch then any other video game show I've seen (I don't have G4 though).
That was a troll?
Anyhoo - yeah, that point in the article was dumb. Well, pretty much the whole thing was dumb - but that point especially. It's like, "Your child is used to playing games 5 hours a day. Limit him to 1. What?! You mean he doesn't like it?! He's mentally ill!"
...so, what do you guys think this is? As much as another Sega console would rock, I don't think it's likely. In fact, I don't think anybody thinks it's likely. But hey, this announcement is supposed to suprise us all, right? Idunno - it sounds like to much hype to be just a game...
Why not just wait for the price to go down, if you think it's too high? My local Target is selling the original Zire ("11") for like $40. That's like half the price it was before it got bumped out of the lineup recently (it was semi-replaced, and then completely replaced, by the 21, which is basically identical, except for more memory.) Yeah, it doesn't have much memory, but I'm thinking about picking one up just to play with and see if I like it (and then buy the spiffy new Zire 72 or an OS6 one if I do). It's not like the second a PDA is "replaced" it's instantaneously worthless. For example, you could probably get the Zire 71 for really cheap now, and it's a great PDA (although, you might just want to buy the new 31.)
First, Sony really needs to lower the price. Soon. The PS2 is the least powerful of all the three major consoles (it's more than beginning to show it's age) and yet it's the most expensive. This year is a big year for the PS2, with many high-profile games. I think they should drop the price to at least $149 ($129 would be better, but Sony knows they just need to match the Xbox, so...). Second, Sony should build a PSTwo. You know, a smaller, cheaper version. They should price it at $99 (generous for Sony, but here's hoping...that's also the "impulse buy" price point, and if they price it there, some PS2 owners will pick one up) and release it around Christmas. Finally, they should hurry up with the PS3. Some will disagree, to be sure, but as I said before, the GC and XB are really showing their advantages, late in the game, but age is only emphasizing the PS2s flaws.
I repeatedly told myself "Remember to post in Plain Old Text" - but it didn't work. I mean, I remembered, but it was too few characters per line. So that's dumb. I still hope I could have been of some help. If not...sorry.
Looks like they'll be few suprises for me in the PlayStation lineup this year...which is really quite a shame.

One question - where are the PSP games?
Oh, and if anybody accuses me of being a karma whore I'll quiver behind my computer screen and call them nasty things.
Ahh...it wouldn't be E3 without the requisite website cock-up. To bad we didn't get too much new information or anything, but it is good to know that Dark Cloud is getting another sequel (It's a great game...didn't play it? Shame on you!) and everything. And we got another picture from FFXII (is that a new character? I haven't seen a picture of anybody but Ashe and Vaan...) so that's cool. But I am interested in that game from Bottle Rocket. It sounds...interesting.
I don't think most Christian stuff can hold a candle to the non-Christian stuff. It might be because all Christian games applarently must be a sermon in disguise. It could also be that they usually have exponentially lower budgets (I remember a Christian film bragging about its budget of "nearly one million dollars"). Other people have also discussed there reasoning, and I agree with it, to the most part.
Ever noticed how everybody talks about how great, say, "Left Behind" is? It's really not that great of a book - compare it to other popular (not-Christian) books out there, and, well, it's pretty...meh. But it's supposedly the best Christian book ever (well, besides the Bible ^_^). I think that it's not because all Christians are awful writers, but there just in a smaller pond - rarely is Christian stuff compared to non-Christian stuff, and Christian stuff is usually lower quality. I guess what I'm getting at is, well, being the best author ever on your block isn't saying as much as the best in the country.
And I think this "Christian games" thing is blown out of proportion - in all my life, I've seen around 10 Christian games, never at "big" stores, just at Christian bookstores and the like. But its supposed to be the next "Christian music" - which has hundreds of singers and stuff, and can be found at my local Wal-mart. It could very well be because lots of Christians (NOT ALL - don't take me the wrong way) usually take a bit longer to "warm up" to new stuff, in my opinion (and in a LOT of personal experience).
I'm not expecting Christian games to be anything big anytime soon. I mean, I've still seen Wisdom Tree's NES games for sale. And if and when Christian games are anything more than ripoffs of other game and Disney-style "activity centers", I doubt they will be as good, simply because there's fewer people interested in making them and buying them.
They got to a) stress test the servers and b) kill of everybody's beta characters (in a way that made sense with the story and all) in one fell swoop. If that's the kind of game design CoH represents, well, I'm going to buy it soon. And City of Villains! They actually listen to the players!
What would've been really cool is if all the heroes somehow beat all the aliens, like how some people in EQ beat an "unbeatable" dragon, etc.
If "random events" consist of a bunch of aliens coming and killing everybody's characters, I don't think people would want them too. (Yeah, I know this is to end the beta.) My point is, just because hugely catastrophic things don't happen at a regular (and yet...random?) pace in "public" MMORPGs, doesn't mean there aren't "random events."
ARGH! Legend of Dragoon wasn't made by Square!
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, well, I don't think it would effect videogames much. I mean, the audio delay wouldn't - that would be slowing down the audio to match the video. If anything hurt videogames, it would be the laggy video.
Those points may hold true for other "classic" devices, but Jakks' TV Games are different. They use controllers based on the original arcade/2600 sticks, for example. They're much better than any other "Plug & Play" game.
Did I ever say "I agree with every opinion expressed in Lord Whatshisface's post"? No. I do agree with the general opinion (very general) but I do not agree that the parent should be modded down. And even if I was in the same category, you said that I (myself) said he should be modded down, which would still be wrong.
"As for the "you can't comment until you've done better" argument, I'll just say that I've never found that one convincing. People will whine about anything no matter their level of experience."
I usually don't go there either - most people who review stuff don't claim they could literally make a better piece, but when the "review" consists of a long list of things that the artists suck at, well, it is tempting.
Um, try reading my name sometime. I'm not the same person you were initially responding to, so, uh, maybe you shouldn't talk about intellegent responses. ^_^
I'm not saying group think is required. Some other people have said they didn't like Red VS. Blue, and that's fine - that's their opinion. But saying that everybody who does machinima is completely devoid of talent in a long list of areas is, well, flamebait.
Go make a better machinima, then. I dare you. I mean, since you apparently can "write, draw, sing, dance, direct, film" and everything else better than anybody currently making machinima, I'm sure it'll be a instant classic. Or the next web fadjoke. If you are actually comparing machinima to a Hollywood movie, you are (a) stupid and (b) missing the entire point. Nobody who makes machinima is claiming that their machinima is better than anything Hollywood puts out. That's nuts. Comparing the two is nuts. They know that, I know that, everybody seems to know that but you.
There are Sims clones? To my knowledge, The Sims is one of the only innovative (well, at one time) games that doesn't have a bunch of clones. I might be wrong, but I've never heard of one. The only game I know that is even vaguely similair is Nintendo's Animal Crossing, but it is substantially different than The Sims, and might even predate it anyway. Examples?
The purpose of e3 might be to have publishers convince stores to sell their game, but as a side effect, it gives everyone a sneak peak of all the games and hardware they'll be playing in a year or so. I don't think it's an unintended side effect, either - they do let members of the media in...
Anyhoo, I'm going to e3. Next year. I'd love to go this year (there's a FF concert too!) but unfortunately, I'll have to wait. But seeing as how next year is shaping up to be the time when all of the nextgen hardware is shown (it is looking more like a 2006 release than 2005, but hey - e3's not here yet) i'm sure it'll be worth the wait.
Well, I mean, it makes sense here too - O usually means OK or something, and X usually means No. And actually, in most recent PS games, X accepts and O cancels. Weird, but it is more comfortable.
Very good. With products like the Xbox, I wouldn't be suprised if the Japanese started getting a low opinion of American products...
On an interesting side note, I've heard that the letter X is supposed to be bad luck, and that, since the Japanese are super-super-superstitous, it would be like naming the Xbox 13666box here or something. That's probably another excuse, like the whole "Japanese people don't like American stuff" crap, but it's still pretty funny.
I really hope Mother 1+2 (Earthbound 0+1) comes to America. I missed EB the first time around, and everybody tells me how great it was. Nintendo Puzzle Collection? How hard can that be to translate!?! And is Giftpia really out in Japan? I might just import it if it doesn't come out soon.
...I will personally go down to Comcast's Stupid HQ and, um, beat them up. Or something. Not Morgan. Noooooo....
