Everybody that is always complaining about Star Trek episodes with exploding spaceships making sounds (BOOM) can now shut up... The makers of star trek just have very sensitive microphones...:-)
I've seen people living on the street. They used to be just like people like you and me. But they made the mistake of saying 'a computer in every home? who needs that... that's not going to happen'... or 'internet ? that's never going to take of'....
;-)
Just a joke... but there is something more serious inside it. It's not what we really miss in our lives. But it is what we will miss in 15 years when we don't have it. happened with cars, TV, Computers and the internet...
This was very incorrect, as it probably wouldn't have been able to run most Microsoft programs (SQL server for starters). More accurate would've been that Lindows is able to run a number of programs that were designed to run on the Microsoft Windows platform.
But I think (as someone else said) that the current text is far better and more accurate and not mentioning windows-programs is probably better.
I wonder what this will do to the write-time on my 1.44 floppies...

"To summarise, this bug freezes any keyboard input to mozilla under some circumstances - so its kinda major"
hmmm kinda major ? Depends on the circumstances. If it freezes any keyboard input when it is saturdaymorning, you have 2 socks with different colors on, you twitch with your lefmost toenail and XP becomes OSS, then I don't think you need to worry much...
The article does have some very good points, but underestimates the power of the MS marketing department. The article could probably be right, but still. There is already 10.000.000 sets out there and that is likely to increase. MS will give away that Xbox-live pack with every new console, just to get the initial crowd in place. MS might forget a couple of things though. Like mentioned in the article, they're going for the wrong crowd (parents iso teens). But the article forgets that Xbox-live will probably be the biggest/best online gaming option for the Xbox, which will have 10 million+ sets out there. One thing I am missing in the article is : what about the bandwidth on the users side ? I'm sure MS can buy the biggest datacenters in the world, and implement all the cool features mentioned. But if the users don't have enough bandwidth to make use of it... then the disney experience will be a burst bubble. People get annoyed easily. And they don't control that (yet).
"The system is designed to augment the existing mirrors with bandwidth from the p2p network and should eliminate the "Slashdot Effect" for popular open source content."
Hopefully you can configure the # of connections, otherwise we will finally be able to get slashdotted from the comfort of our own homes:-)
Now if setiathome would just find some ET intelligence, I would have some processor time available for this... But until then... seti stays on my pc.
btw... 8 month average ? That would cost MY computer so much time, we will be able to walk outside to watch/feel the climate it is trying to predict LOL...
If you like the concept of being plugged into a different world and not knowing what is real and what is not, try eXistenZ by David Cronenberg. It's a cool movie, but lacks the special effects the Matrix had.
Why is everybody talking like flash is dead because of this ? The existing product might be taken off the shelf, but that doesn't mean anything. They lose a lawsuit, take the tabbed palletes out(which btw is not the 'normal' tab feature you see in almost every application, but the abbility to rearrange things to save space or something... read the other posts) and sell the new product just as well... Might cost them a bunch, but flash will still exist.
What about people that don't agree about foreign military actions ? Maybe they should pay less taxes ? C'mon people... Be a bit social. You don't just pay for things that you want, but also for what other people want (and even for things nobody actually wants but is in the public interest). And yes, the space programm is in the public interest. Medical tests are done in space. Maybe those that don't buy a SF-book, should be excluded than from some medical treatments that would have been impossible without the space program ? Get real...
Almost thought I made a typo... slashdot.org... nope... right place.
Can somebody compress this story the/dev/null way ??? Please...
Or is Hemos just doing an experiment on us? "hmmm... let's see how I can get those geeks to rebel a little, get them to turn on something else than microsoft, or running into flamewars.. let's have a real community spirit, by all having the same opinion"...
Ok Hemos... you succeeded... now get this thing out of here.
First some obligatory reminissing... I remember my first PC (a 386) which had a dark green case, a dark green monitor, and a matching keyboard and mouse... It was fun, not because it was green, but because it was different (and anything that was computer related seemed cool to me). To bad I blew the thing up (long story).
But back on-topic. I only have beige/white cases at home, but over the years they've turned darker and darker, so I'll just wait until they turn black all by themselves. And in a couple of years, when the retro-look is hip, I'll do what my wife suggests and dust 'em off, so I'll have that retro-beige again.
LOL... next to the article there's a big square ad from Microsoft : 'Get your infrastructure ready for anything' :-)
From this page :
"Although I'm working full time on Volume 4 these days, I will try to reply to all such messages within six months of receipt. "
SIX MONTHS...

"specifically that fees would be required to become "UnitedLinux" certified"
... IT IS A BUSINESS
Yeah... it almost looks like a business... ehm... oops
If Microsoft didn't know they could use it for this purpose allready... they do now...
;-)
Oh great, just what I need... A gnome with no pants on on my desktop :-b

"News For Turds has posted 32 comments. Below find the most recent 24 comments"
And all of those 24 have a score of -1... I guess usuck...
What standards ? Look at the website, they can't even decide on 1 language...

And ofcourse :
1 post with a summary of the number of other posts
1 comment to the summary to make it complete
uh-oh
"Which leads to another problem: with an LCD-suit, where would you put which app?"
I'm a little afraid for user input if i'd put my apps in wrong places...
Let's give those astronauts some condoms.

I was almost tempted to make some snide remarks, but unlike most religions, I DO let people make their own choices.
