Genuinely, what is the point where you stop the racism of low expectations, and start asking that their culture condemn violence and move into the modern era?
The USA is a country entirely predicated on racism, either through slavery or colonial violence against the First Nation peoples. Blacks have only had emancipation for around 50 years, that is 10% of the time that the USA has been in existence.
Your systems are inherently racist because this is what happens under colonisation. Have a look at the other European colonies e.g. Australia, New Zealand and review the research taking place there.
Blacks being victimised by your state institutions such as the police or the courts is an entirely predictable outcome of colonisation. You don't see it because your society has a white normative bias, and probably because you don't study this aspect of sociology either.
And yet there hasn't been a female Nobel Prize for Physics will in over 50 years. No matter how you cut it, at least *some* of the reason for such a long gap between awards has to be driven by sexism.
My Lumia 950 still meets my needs, and I really enjoy the interface, I have it set up just as I like it and the live tiles definitely add value.
As mentioned by others, the search button and ease of switching between apps makes using it a breeze. Good camera too, and integrates well with OneDrive.
If/when it dies, I'll miss having such a nice UI and will probably go to Android (I find iOS obtuse and WTF is up with having a UI hardward with all the flexibility of a toaster ?)
I call bollocks on this. I use var all the time in C# - it simply does not hinder understanding at all. If you adhere to principles of clean code then your methods should be small and entirely focused on one thing (aka Single Responsibility). And, of course, the variable names should clearly indicate their role or purpose. Repeating the in the variable declaration simply adds noise (making the code dirtier, not cleaner).
Let me guess - you love using static method calls and can't see the point of unit testing ?
Larry Ellison used to say the same thing about SQL Server, but now it's a viable enterprise database platform, and has been for the last decade.
I prefer the Windows phone interface, so I want to see them keep trying until they get something that makes people really pay attention (like they did when Surface was released). If I have the spare cash, my next laptop will definitely be a Surface.
Only works for Native/English as First Language, though. If you consider ALL English speakers, you Americans are totally in the minority (251,388,301 vs
929,089,957).
I'm a C# and BI developer I was paid to learn Clojure (a LISP) for a cloud-based contact centre platform project. I really liked it, but it did take me a while to get my head around the different patterns
If you have a problem that can be solved using functional programming (e.g. operating on sets of data) then it can be a good choice. For example, I reckon it would be extremely useful in a business intelligence transformation layer.
I quite enjoyed it. It was better than the source material IMO. Then again, I could be biased because it's filmed in my hometown (Auckland) and I know the costume designer.
I think the fact that it has the same characters from the Episode 6 who have aged and developed during the intervening time means this is not a remake. I do agree that the story was pretty unoriginal in that it was too similar to A New Hope.
I think the submitter meant Star Trek not Star Wars. Star Trek got the re-imagining, Star Wars has merely had more delivered of the pre-envisaged canon.
I wonder how long we'll have to wait before a proper new and original franchise star up. I'd like to see Elric or the Ian M. Banks Culture stories
Beat at the rugby ? Remind me again when you last had the Bledisloe Cup (or World Cup for that matter) ?
You've got a good cricket team and a good league team, though.
Nah, we've had saturation coverage of this event here in Aotearoa New Zealand. The second pod has been closely monitored and they did actually swim off.
I'd recommend selecting a language - I think an object oriented language would be a good place to start. Java or C#, both of which are supported in Windows and Linux, would be useful choices. After that, get a subscription on PluralSight (or similar e-learning site) and do some of the beginner courses. If you can afford it, pay for the subscription that lets you download the source code so you can use it as a reference.
. Most shockingly of all, when you legalize child porn, rates of it actually go down [springer.com], and sex abuse goes much farther down.
You fucking moron. The study you linked to was around legal, consenting, adult porn vs general sexual assault. That is, watching some people *legally* and most importantly *consenting* to both the sexual activity and its recording, is not the same as watching sexual assault. i.e. no victims.
Contrast this with child sexual assault material (aka child porn). The child in it is a victim - every time a nonce watches that shit. Reading the rest of your comment you sound like a child sexual assault apologist, or else a fucking nonce yourself. If you are a nonce, may you face justice sooner rather than later.
I agree that it is not necessarily a racist comment, although it does have significant dog-whistle value.
The experience in New Zealand around affirmative action type quotas is that the students who get in on these quotas are equally capable with respect to completing their degree course. i.e. the grade average requirement is simply a way of filtering students, and is set so high that you can actually have lower grades and still pass the degree programme.
Scalia was a typical right-winger - strong on beg-the-question thought experiments, but a lightweight when it comes to actually doing the research *before* forming an opinion.
My wife is a New Zealand Sign Language interpreter (it's our third official language here). The problem with sign language is that it doesn't just use hand gestures, but also requires facial expression to convey meaning. So while they might be able to interpret gestures of the hands, they will miss a significant proportion of the meaning.
The end result will be something that might be able to translate finger spelling, but not much else. Also, sign language uses relative location to the speaker in order to convey meaning such as tense (in front of you is the future, behind you is the past), so they had better put on tech to track position relative to the speaker.
when Apple just got on with it a made good products. Now they need to spread FUD about a competing product ?
I've got a Surface Pro 3 - it's a great laptop replacement and the tablet form factor is handy for some situations and the fact that it runs standard Windows software makes it a great device. Unless your work consists of surfing the web and sending the odd email, why would anyone want an iPad Pro ?
The homeowner would be able to call the authorities and they would prosecute the drone operator.
As a kiwi, I'm very happy to have the Rule Of Law protecting my privacy.
Given that the US isn't likely to get such a statute in the near future, is there are legal way to disable a drone that is spying on you ?
As a kiwi, I've got to agree with you.
Another way of looking at this is comparing it to dog control laws. You can't let your dog off-leash anywhere you feel like it, no matter how well-behaved they are, not even on public land. You *can* if you have permission of the owner, or you are in a regulated dog-control area.
If you think of flying drone as akin to letting your dog off your leash, then it's pretty much the same, and it hasn't suppressed dog ownership.
I have a Lumia 920, and it is very solid. The basic work great, and I think the interface is way more intuitive than the icon-laden Androids and iPhones.
Here is a post by the CEO of LightBox, one of the companies pushing for "clarification" around the legality of "Global Mode" which sets out her position.
Perhaps inevitably, her position gets a hiding in the comments thread.

10% of Americans have been killed by automobiles ? I call bullshit on that.

When did they stop using Visual Source Safe ?

I call bullshit on that, mate. Links or you're making it up.
