i got two copies of SCO software 6 years ago through the free sco program. like sun's program at the same time, i only had to pay for shipping nad got two free licenses. SCO can go f*ck themselves. how does free go to $699?? i want to meet their accountants.
i live in the northern va area and have had a few friends work for uunet/worldcom. as far as the pay goes i hear it sucks, even for tier three network techs. but the plus side is they'll train you to death if you want them to, no strings attached. and they have a t-shirt and jeans kinda policy.
in my life i have witnessed a few great national disasters. the first i can recall iswhen i was in grade school (k-4) and we were all ushered into the library. on that day i saw the challenger explode over and over again. i must have been 9 or 10 years old. it was once of the most horrific events that i have ever witnessed. this morning i was fixing a server in the datacenter between 8 and 10 am. when i came back to the fifth floor. i was ushered into a room of stark white faces and people crying. you have to understand that my office is only 10 miles from the pentagon and we are a dod contractor so naturally there was reason to worry. it felt like it did almost 15 years ago i was in a room with a bunch of people i knew watching a horrendous catastrophie over and over again. i wish that on no one. small children should never have to see that. parents should not have to live it. and the rest of us should not have to either. things like this should never happen. my deepest regret and infinite sadness goes out to the victims and their families during this darkest of hours.
yeah i live in dc annandale, va actually. the computer show and sale thing you see on tv and hear on the radio is a ripoff. you're right about that one. most of the companies involved in taht have legit store fronts in the area. and the prices are the same you just don't have to spend $5 at the door with a coupon. there are a few shops in town that have an amazing selection of old goodies. practical computer in alexandria, computer renaissance in landmark (alexandria). practical actually has a very decent selection from a big vax i saw in there one day to sgi indy. and i mean indy the blue box w/the spatter paint on it. and scsi boxes galore. sun monitors. there are a few shops in twon you just need to know where to go.
i work for a large dod/government contracting company in one of their it services divisions. there are 8 people in my group. we rotate shifts every week but get paid 20% more for two weeks. something to do with it being easier for payroll to calculate or something. hope that helps a little.
from what i have been reading about the new generation of hdtv. if the tv or a/v receiver does'nt like the source the signal is coming from, tough sh*t it will not be displayed. this is food for thought though. i'm keeping my analog headphones for a long time now.
everybody should vote for nader who doesn't like the other options this go round. don't just not vote, vote for the alternative instead. if the green party gets 5% in this election then next time the government has to recognize them for political debates. it might prove to be a better choice in the future.
i don't know what i fear worse coming from dc, a coke head president or an inanimate carbon rod. it's always good to have another choice.
one of my roommates is a aol connectivity programmer here in reston. he told me the real issue is not access to their network. it's that all packets transmitted on the aol network have a copyright inside the packet. so in effect everytime an unauthorized client attaches to their network they are perpetrating copyright infringement because of the transmitted packets.
this apparently is the reason nobody has really tried to ip spoof the aol network. besides the fact that all aol packets for clients are b-class private and all internal packets are a-class private net addresses. the spoofer would not only be facing the hacking charges but aol would dump enormous copyright charges against them.
solaris is free all you do is pay for the cds and books. it's $18 w/shipping included. i cannot remember when i ever paid that little for a redhat boxed edition. for home and educational use only. as long as it is not running an e-commerce site i do not think they really care what you use it for.
only a decade?
Remember the sega genesis external cd/dvdrom? sega does not make hardware for a reason anymore, they lost their pants on that move
i'm 27 yrs old and after i got married in august i started the atkins and so far have lost 35lbs

talk to a lawyer give them all of your papers and other pertinent information and have them file a patent on your behalf

This is like the third time within a year this story has been posted. And it is not vaporware the technology has been around for years.

With no new products to speak of. What exactly do they do? Do they even have profit? maybe they should just give up.
