Regulatory agencies should be removed every 10-20 years. This would mean completely eliminating all personnel and a minimum of regulation.
government does not have the agility to meet the needs of the changing technologies and regulatory agencies tend to stifle growth, cater to companies that pay them off and do not listen to the consumers .
They need a time limit, I would actually suggest that everything have an expiration date, WTF is this that politicians make decision with lifelong generational effects ? This is making a decision in a vacuum
We were given a perfect self sustaining healthy ecosystem that would last forever and that just wasn't good enough.
I am not suggesting we forgo progress in that statement , I am saying that the bees were doing just fine until the scientists started playing for his masters.
We don't need to learn any more from the bee to save it, we have to respect the bees and stop with the chemicals in the air, water, ground and the Franken foods
The bees and the Earth will long outlast the mighty human (mighty ego). It has seen the likes of us before and watched as we destroyed ourselves, then it did its thing, what it is supposed to do, recycled itself and just in time for another batch of idiots and this time their bringing backpacks!
PR: "we did it all to please you, we wanted you to have the best..." Designers: "You change it, you are on your own" CEO/CFO: "It'll save us how much? do it"
I can only imagine the reasoning behind running away from coal, how does one actually use the word sustainability and any other Technology other than coal? Scientists have worked tirelessly to produce clean burning coal plants and Cole is abundant, Coal employees people. If you look at this from a statistical standpoint and compare it against things like nuclear energy I think it is pretty clear that Coal is far more sustainable. I'm sure nuclear power is and option however with our government agencies being bought off regulating these companies is a challenge and they will only return as much as they have to into the business to maintain operations. The United States Nuclear Power Plants are aged and it is questionable that they have been maintained properly. One disaster at a nuclear power plant throws that whole sustainability equation out the window. Now let's look at solar energy now here's a joke, any of you people in technology have to be able to see that solar energy is a nightmare in proportions, It does not scale and is it expensive. Now, natural gas this is a wonderful resource, however this resource is absolutely destroying something far more precious than polar ice, it is a definite whereas, climate change and global warming is just a theory and that precious commodity is absolutely essential for life, that is water. Fracking for natural gas to which President Bush and Pres. Obama along with Dick Cheney (heavily invested in these companies) Open the floodgates with little to no oversight and regulation for this destructive form of extracting natural gas. These companies have been allowed to exploit our federal lands, OUR lands. If you want talk about sustainability, natural gas by means of Fracking, Will ultimately destroy nearly all of our natural aquifers and underground water supplies by polluting them with poisonous chemicals. THIS IS A FACT, this is happening right now and can be proven unlike this theory of global warming. It is time to look at what is really happening instead of having our heads in the clouds worrying about what may happen, listening to scientists who have been caught fudging numbers in order to have research results agree with the theory...
I live in Milwaukee Wisconsin, Milwaukee sits beside one of the greatest natural resources we have, a great lake, Milwaukee is now a hub for freshwater research. Now, why in the world would people be investing in fresh water research? The reason is not global warming, The reason is that water is going to become scarce and has nothing to do with global warming and everything to do with our obsession with weather modification and our destruction of our natural water supplies due to hydraulic fracturing or Fracking. We already see large freighters from other countries filling football field sized bladders and towing the freshwater out of the country, this practice began after our President relinquished the great lakes to the United Nations.
So, Canada is going to see their way past coal power, good for them. How about we make some smart decisions instead of the hip and trendy decisions.
Hooray! Someone with enough balls actually just stand up for this country for once. I don't know how you felt about us be forced into this agreement, an agreement made in secret does anyone know what happened on Jekyll Island? You know that's secretive deal made during the holiday which proved to be one of the most significant changes to our economy then almost any other. The TPP is very similar. I have read and studied much of what was available but this was such a tiny portion to the actual agreements that it was barely worth reading.
The fact that our current administration our current president as well as one of the presidential candidates what support such a travesty is frightening to say the least. Make no mistake this was not a partnership, this was clearly a treaty, a treaty that was negotiated outside of the best interest of the United States. I applaud Donald Trump for standing up against this abomination for standing with the people of United States as opposed to selling out our country and our people in an effort to further giveaway our sovereignty.
Fake news this is just another means of our mainstream propaganda media agents to secure their position as the experts as to what news is. This suggestion that there needs to be some sort of filter or mechanism to identify "Fake news" is a completely contrived notion that attempts to censor free speech. If students are having a problem identifying what the real news is and what's fake news is the answer is not to filter the answer is to better educate these idiots I cannot think for themselves and determine what his news and what is not.
Unfortunately the major news corporations within the United States are the experts at delivering fake news, Those caught interviewing crisis actors, those wrapped up in false claims of being under fire in a war zone yet somehow still hold a job. These are the institutions that are suggesting there needs to be some type of standard and definition of what real news is.
How about this? How about we think for ourselves for once, How about we use our brains, How about we use common sense? Does their really need to be a formal tribunal that designates what "Real news" is? Have any of you ever listened to radio in the 1940s and 1950s? It wasn't uncommon for newscasters to advertise goods and services and would almost be confused for news. I would challenge anyone who turns on the television and watches mainstream news to be able to identify what is public-relations, What is an advertisement, What is a political statement and what is news. I think that you will find there is very little news in any of the broadcasts.
It's time to put on the big boy pants, It is time to actually think for yourself and take responsibility. It is time to use your brain and it is time to start critically thinking about the things that are happening around us. This world exists beyond a smart phone and computer screen, we spend more time in a constructed reality then we do in the world at large.
With the hell cares what is real news and one is fake news if you're armed with the ability to think for yourself and know the difference.
Are you absolutely out of your mind? Seriously, look at your options, complete censorship vs not. This administration has clearly shown you their roadmap and you still are willing to accept this?
I am truly beside myself when I see how easily people are willing to give in to complete control and regulation, how this US administration uses supremacy and somehow convinced you it is tolerance. Do you know why the Internet "blew up"? It was a LACK of regulation.
I don't like all of the things that Donald Trump stands for however he is a capitalist, not a socialist, not a communist or a fascist. I think we have had it far too easy for some reason we become completely lazy and prefer to be taken care of rather than getting our hands dirty, sweaty in a little bit and doing some actual work, but I digress.
Regulation is control, regulation is not thinking for yourself, regulation is admitting you're not capable and regulation is a way of not taking responsibility for your actions. You may want someone to garner your free speech, but I don't and I think if you realized and thought about it a little bit further than just this election you might feel differently.
You can't see it, it's 2-4 generations away, out of your sight, You have to think long term. Cars will eventually be too costly to own and operate, you can be sure of it. The business model of ride sharing sucks now, due to the cost of the idiot behind the wheel, why would they (those ride sharing companies) be so quick to lose money and stay in the red? The owners and every other company know that jockeying for position now will set them up for life.
Your kids grandchildren will not know what it means to pick up and go on a road trip across the country or otherwise. They won't own a car, their grandparents might have one in the garage (hehe "Red Barchetta") , but drive it? No.
Everyday there is an article out there about self driving cars, autonomous vehicles, robot this and robot that, it's hype, it's the greatest thing, right? Not.
RC enthusiasts have managed this for years without problem. All we need is DHS to follow up on some of these calls, they always manage to find the laser pointer kiddies..
Slap them wirh a day in jail and a $1000 fine and the next time they are caught its 30 days in the slammer and a felony.
This is not a big issue. It's minimal.
They aren't following up on the sightings they aren't even taking them seriously so why should we take them seriously I don't even take a circle seriously the whole bunch of rhetoric.
I agree they are attempting the balloon this up make it sound larger than what it really is regulation simply means licensing licensing simply means money in revenue this and only this is the most important thing on a politicians mind not safety.
This kind of stuff usually just boils down to commonsense which average American seems to lack these days. ST earlier hobbyist really had no problem with this and also this article doesn't list any specific sightings.
If you think it's bad right now you just wait till Amazon and Google start using these things. That is what's going to edge out the amateur enthusiasts.

Certainly it is important that he technology is used with the best intentions. Police departments can do quite a bit with technology that is available. ALPR (license plate readers) DO locate stolen vehicles on a regular basis. Dash cam or In Car Video as well as body cams go a long way to protect citizens and officers, after all when you can see how things unfolded it is hard to dispute. Gunshot detection systems can detect within several feet the type of of gun being shot (and knows the difference between car backfire or fireworks), smart tactical mapping in the vehicle can help close up all of the egress spots and if there is a camera in the area, it can automatically move to the direction of the detection.
Good records management and CAD(computer aided dispatch) can warn the officer ahead of time what he/she might be walking into.
There are many ways technology can assist the agency in resource allocation for effectively assigning personnel to locations or determining staffing which can significantly reduce overtime that costs the cities money.
A good reporting system can get a cop from one assignment to another more efficiently as the reporting can be optimized, decreasing response time. Field identification can prevent the need to bring someone to a station for identification, the booking process can be cut down by at least 50-60%, which gets the cop back on the street where you want them.
I2 was purchased by IBM, their product i iBase purchased by IBM is an excellent example of of software capable of bringing in this type of data and building the relationships that get the value from the data. This has become part of IBMs predictive analytics Along with SPSS
There are many others on the horizon, however, there are not enough. It is time that the great minds, such as those here, start looking at developing solutions for law enforcement.
There is a market out there for the person who is interested, that is for sure, the current players have been into it for a while, but they are built on old technology and I believe many lack the in-house talent to out it all together. Most of these companies were started by police officers who liked "playing with computers". Of course there are great companies out there, but they are few and far between,
Hope that helped shed some light on the subject.
You nailed it, not to mention the parking and violation information, tax key information, bus cameras, school surveillance, body cameras, squad GPS data and dash cam video, literally anything they can tap into. The social media is a big thing, capturing real time information at the scene can drum up witnesses, capture photos of the area prior to the incident, it all goes a long way.
This is similar to the fusion centers throughout the US where these technologies are put to use. IBM has been focusing on bringing its predictive analytics to municipalities linking their RMS arrest and CAD call data they can really pinpoint with significant accuracy the homes their officers will be visiting.
The ALPR systems can be linked from one municipality to another as well, tracking vehicle routes and times people are moving illegal substances or when rival gang violence may occur. Over the past 5 years law enforcement has been booming with technology. Today's police Chief is embracing technology and relies on it to make many of the daily decisions.
Where the privacy issues come into play is that, like anything else, technology has grown at an alarming pace and laws have not kept up with the growth. Many cities do not have official retention policies for this data so, they are keeping it indefinitely. To compound the issue, the politicians who have to address policy regarding these technologies are non-technical people with little understanding of the implications. (I think this is easily the issue on the federal side as well, old guys who don't know what they are dealing with)
So, get used to it is right. I say, embrace it, there are a lot of opportunities for people interested in bringing technology solutions to law enforcement. There are still a very large number of RMS vendors who are 5-7 years behind, slapping new interfaces over old technology, there is a demand for this and most of them have systems that are antiquated, lack modular design and require complete re-write in order take advantage of current technology.
Businesses have lost their edge causing slow job growth, blame the American Businesses , forget tax hikes and regulations imposed by the administration
After reading this, I am somewhat speechless. All I see is a twist of irony here; the gestapo tactics of this industry is alarming. I dont know where they will draw the line and when?
So, lyrics are out, Tablature is out... I wonder when they will shake down middle and high schools? They are onto a path where their greed is going to short-circuit the creative process.
WOW! How does anyone live their life with that much anger and hatred flowing through their viens? Oh, is that passion
There is really nothing in your reply that warrants this post, however, I would like clarify the notion that I subscribe to the beliefs of that well known pompus fat-man from hailing from Central CA. It scares me that anyone would cast a judgment so quickly, based on only a few sentences....
The simple fact of the matter is this: I have no sympathy for pedophiles, just as I have no sympathy for terrorists. The thought that there is some line that needs to be drawn(or questioned) when we are exercising an effective means of bringing this worthless element to justice elevates my sackless, weak POS, "afraid of my own shadow", blood pressure.
If there were some, reasonable question as to whether this person actually committed this crime, well then maybe the flags should go up, but lets just use some common sense and think rationally when we are talking about this.
My post is not about any specfic event and it really means nothing to me nor does it add to your point how many times your have boarded a plane since 9/11 other than the fact that you travel.
Our laws needs to be about protecting the safety and lives of the innocent, lets just talk about these pedophiles (and leave the terrorists out of it), let's put aside all politics because it has no place in the matter as well. We are dealing with an element that works tirelessly on stealing the innocence of children for their own sick, morally corrupted personal gain. This is a person who will ultimately affect and possibly destroy many lives even after one act. We are also talking about a person who will more than likely go on again and again, even after being caught, and incarcerated (for any length of time).
Where is the rationale behind anything that would remotely inhibit the means to bringing such a destructive force in our socity to justice swiftly and minimizing any and all damages? When we are dealing with forces which cannot be ratioanlly dealt with, why would anyone chose to handicap the forces we put in place to protect us?
The only fear I have is of a collective society who rationalizes with those who are incable of rational thought. I fear this collective group of people cry foul even while our very own future, our most valued resource, is being threatened. I fear both sides of the extreme are so blinded by their views, they can't be reasoned with and are incable of making sound and selfless decisions that are good for the masses.
The weak sackless losers are those that are not doing everything possible to do the right thing, and if we are talking about self preservation(collectively) then there is a definitive moment when the "gloves need to come off".
"Who will Guard the Guards?" Well, this is an interesting notion. How about, who will guard the children? Who will guard the citizens?
Everyone seems to pipe up about these issues, until there is some report about the fact that there was "information available, that was over-looked for reason xyz", now it's time to tar and feather those who were actually following protocol, "protecting our rights".
I find it interesting that the same people who rally around rights and are concerned about "big brother", are also the same persons who rally around socialization of services and generally larger forms of Government. How does that make sense?
We cannot tie the arms behind the backs of our various law enforcement agencies and then hold them accountable to the degree that they are held. If you are going to fight crime, then fight crime. I got an idea, how about we do what works? If the methods described are working, great, if not, let's try something else.
If it looks like a granny, talks like a granny and walks like a granny, it must be a terrorist.
Funny how I shrugged at the rash of thumbdrives out there, that is, until recently. They keep getting cheaper and cheaper and I kept buying them. I have since, stopped, however, it was only after the 12 step program.
Now, what do I keep on mine? Slax - Kill Bill, of course it really has brought me the level of standardization that I need from one computer to the next and it can do all (like many other small distros) the things that I need. I would however recommend something like Truecrypt for ensuring the security of your information. I would also recommend that you back your drive up on a regular basis, these things can be a bit unforgiving.
I could go on and on about the various apps, it really all depends on what you are doing. I do find the following though, very useful: Wireshark (Ethereal), Open Office and the usual suspects, samba, Etherwake, NVU, Thunderbird, rdesktop, various vnc flavors and other well known management utilities.
If I did not emphasize enough earlier, if you are going to rely on these little gems, I think you should always have an identical spare, and additionally, perform a backup on a regular basis. You might want to get creative and build a library of tools which could be easily accessed remotely to keep your drive lean. I would also highly recommend encrypting data you wouldn't want public.
"Does Microsoft think it is going to get away with charging real money for any sort of add-on service, or new product that protects clients against flaws in its own operating system?"
I encourage this type of arrogance on the part of Microsoft, I would suspect that they would find themselves tied up in another legal battle. In addition, this may be exactly the type of thing that Linux needs.
"Exactly how anything manages to worm in through the open port and place items in the Registry is beyond me.."
This is one of those "features" brought about by the "tight integration" that Microsoft oh-so likes to spout off, the same goes for their "feature rich", "Tightly Integrated" Office Suite!
[regarding the Registry]"Why does Microsoft insist on continuing its use? There has to be a better way."
Another "tightly integrated" feature of the Windows OS, Surely there is a way, maybe when they receive the money for the patch management services, they will fix the problems with the registry.
"There's climate data going back thousands and evevn millions of years. Please read up on paleoclimate."
Paleoclimate is speculation and can be easily debated. Paleoclimate uses Proxy Data which is known to be out-dated and generally stops in the 1980s.
I agree that the ocean levels are increasing, and temperatures may have increased since the "cooling period" of the 1970's, I also agree that in order to get government funding, or recognition, you need to produce results to support your theories, and this is what they are: theory.
In order to stay informed, we need to look at both sides, remain objective;both sides have compelling arguments.
Paleoclimate is an interesting science and hopefully it will lead us into an direction where we learn more, we need to look at it objectively though, just take a look at Carbon-14 Dating....
Funny, using all of our technological genuis and all of our super computers and all of the past data we have,we can't even detemine what the temperature will be next week, how can we be certain of temperatures 1 million years ago? Is this an ignorant statement? No it is a demonstration that science and research is speculative and it it troublesome when politicians play Scientist in order to win votes. It is also troublesome when our nations newspapers are notoriusly biased.
True, however, license plates will eventually go away. It will cost more for an analog plate, very much like smart meters

(I think this is easily the issue on the federal side as well, old guys who don't know what they are dealing with) So, get used to it is right.
President Obama, 'It wasnt me'...
Apperently, you cant teach people how to play either
This just demonstrates their short-sightedness.
The simple fact of the matter is this: I have no sympathy for pedophiles , just as I have no sympathy for terrorists.
I really don't know why Microsoft is even worried about it, Isn't it the Coders Fault anyway?
"Why doesn't the company just bite the bullet and bring out various exploitable versions?"
Vista - Wont't Install (BSOD) Edition
Vista - Phisermans Dream Editition (Code Named CHUM)
Vista - Cleaned and Optimized (Linux , Gnome w/Vista Skin)
Funny, using all of our technological genuis and all of our super computers and all of the past data we have, we can't even detemine what the temperature will be next week , how can we be certain of temperatures 1 million years ago? Is this an ignorant statement? No it is a demonstration that science and research is speculative and it it troublesome when politicians play Scientist in order to win votes. It is also troublesome when our nations newspapers are notoriusly biased.
