I understand now why it wasn't funny to the audience. "The liberal media is destroying America"...does he mean it?...is he making fun of people who say that?...I'm a liberal, maybe I am destroying Amerika;...I'm a conservative, I already know they're destroying America
I read the transcript first, and laughed at just about everything. When I watched the video, I got the sense of the nervous tension in the room and found myself thinking that it wasn't as funny. I like the Colbert Report, but it seemed that the audience at this dinner didn't get the joke. In the end, what he did was funny and truthful, but the audience's discomfort made me want to look away -- kind of like a Bush press conference (the look away part, not the funny and truthful part).
Don't most artists make only a pittance on their album sales anyway, even after they have paid back the label for their 'generous' promotional contract?
I don't know, but I'll sleep easier tonight knowing that artists like p-diddy, christinia agulueera, and usher won't be cheated from what's rightfully their's.
He did say the company had just been bought out, so there was going to be a bit of a transition period. He easily could have hung on for a while before making the decision to quit. No harm in sticking it out to see how things turn out.
Having been 27 once, like our unemployed friend, I think he might've been a bit impetuous about his decision.
Indeed, many if not all of us have broken a law at some point or another. The scary thing is that mundane logs that are compiled over time can be used later to indicate patterns of behavior. Imagine reading/. at work, then months later, something unrelated happens but your Internet browsing patterns are hauled out to incriminate you for slacking or whatever.
It's not the actuall loss of sales that is affecting the content industry. It's the threat of lost control.
I definitely agree with the idea that it's "lost control" that's bothering the RIAA/MPAA. What's been bugging me lately is that newer DVDs don't allow you to skip to the main menu when first loaded, they make you sit through the 5 minutes of coming attractions/commercials/crud that's on there before you can watch the movie. That's after spending $15-$20 to buy the DVD. Makes me sorry I didn't pick up a version of DVDXCOPY when I had the chance.
I realize I don't have to watch a movie, but I can't get past the idea that if I paid for the movie I shouldn't have to watch the ads. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'll bet a majority of people would agree with those sentiments.
Well rumor has it that in the Ultra Expanded, Platinum Plated Director's Cut Edition, before Gollum falls into the Crack of Doom, Jackson pulls a Lucas and has Gollum confess to Frodo that he is his father.
Also, when Gandalf battles the Balrog, the new edition will have GANDALF FALL IN FIRST!!
Of course this edition won't be released for another 20 years, so rest easy.
"In the beginning... it appeared the story was about Luke, but if you see all six films, then you realize the story is really about Darth Vader," Lucas says...
Funny, seems to me it's all about George Lucas now...

They don't call it "Ever-Crack" for nothing
Agreed. But as subsystems "evolve" over time to handle new features, you're forced to revisit past assumptions.
You can be sure for whoever did, it probably wasn't high on their priority list.
This just in, IE7 does not fully support CSS2, oh wait...
Ahh, what the hell...
>> I'd have preferred r-theta polar coordinates.
> That, my friend, is a rad idea!
Now you're just going off on a tangent.

I imagine your Mom doesn't call often for tech support.

They'd also have to de-carbon-freeze Mark Hamill and his acting career. I did like Corvette Summer though.
