    There seem to be some shining examples of people who've worked their way up from the bottom... I would assume that it's because they've shown themselves to be motivated and have a fundamental understanding of what the majority of the company actually *does*, and doesn't just look at their products as "goods sold" and people as "labor costs".

    Look at the recent McDonald's CEO and the current nominee for Commerce Secretary (or was he confirmed already?) from Kellogg's.

    Ivy League schools tend to be known for their liberal arts, schools of business, and law... yes, there are exceptions, but if you're a talented engineering student, Stanford, MIT, or Carnegie Mellon might tend to be more of a top-tier goal than Columbia's School of Engineering and Applied Science.

    I dunno about you, but to me it looked like the point behind this was to get to the person harvesting, in this case using zombie A as an anonymous proxy or the like. Blacklisting IPs sending mail to spam traps (which zombie B would be doing) is nothing new.

    Is this because of something along the lines of the harsh environment breaking the probe down? Battery life?

    While I do think it's nifty, in comparison, you have to love the Mars rovers' abilities to continue functioning so we can explore as we learn, rather than having everything pre-planned.

    I guess you've never picked up a computer magazine... they've got all kinds of ads in everything from PC Magazine to SysAdmin... ranging from 7-11 chose us because of the lower TCO than Linux to "You see a goth chick, we see a vinyl clothing entrepreneur" type ads.

    When you start with the 1.42 GHz, up it to a gig of RAM, a superdrive, bluetooth, wireless keyboard and mouse, and give it a 3 year warranty, it's up to $1422, you don't have nifty Mac stuff like video-in, and you have a CPU that compares to what was out a few years ago.

    Is this really a good deal?

    It's bad enough that you can't tell a crazy person from someone on the phone these days, with the bluetooth in-ear headpieces... now they'll be talking loudly to themselves and making wild hand gestures.

    You can burn the low-level guys all you want, but upper management should have had security audits done and weeded them out before an actual breach.

    We don't know if mandates from above caused things to get forced into production without proper measures because of unrealistic deadlines or pathetic budgets, either.

    Perhaps if the school as a whole had to carry information security liability insurance they'd be forced by an insurance carrier to be compliant with some security standards.
