It is something called 'a lead'. If the local Police get a call about stolen merchandise and a match description and posting date in Craigslist then that would be beneficial in solving a possible crime right? In this case it only took one semi computer litterate person 1 minuite instead of looking around and coming up with nothing. In all cencerity I think the Police should have people that do nothing but sit on the site all day long looking for leads. If I was in law enforcement I would love it since I get an image of the merchandise with out a warrant, likely some personally identifiable information from that picture and likely an email address and/or cell number on top of it. They should be thanking Craig for putting together a real time crime yellow pages and providing a service communities have been using since the first swap meet.

As far as AC's and high UIDs go people have been known to sell off longtime UIDs to the highest bidder and sometimes posting as AC is beneficial when some actual industry insider posts real verifiable info. As for cliques it would be pointless all you would have to do is register a large group of users and have them all "friend" each other making them selves the defacto Slash-Friends group speaking for the whole site. It is always best to reserve judgment and double check facts rather than giving trust to something that can be gamed. It's kinda like the tech companies relying on the DRM du-jour to make them infallible we know it never works why should we bother with the same?

The SNR on this site has gotten pretty bad. Sometimes comments look like they were digested by a focus group before pasted here. I've come to realize the barrier to entry to post on this site is a computer and an Internet connection so shills and non shills alike a free to post as they please. I just don't lie to myself and try to believe this is a pure and pristine place, not like it ever was. As far as believing blindly all the posts of user experiences with brand X and eloquent posts about tribulations with Y and of course all the beautiful posts about internet moral conduct, all get taken with salt. I'm just here for the occasional funny and the more rare informative post.

You can't say Android is really just one choice, it is many choices and many companies that will want you to buy their Android device over the other guys Android device. This is where Samsung, Sony, Motorola, HTC and others start to battle it out over each other on a hardware aspect and MS, Apple and RIM over the hardware and software. It's not fair to say there is only room for 4 players when we already have a party going on with some really high rollers.

This has been Microsofts MO since Gates first saw the Altair. QDOS, they buddy up with someone who has what they want and get it cheap. Mac GUI buddy up with Steve Jobs and steal it from under him (which Jobs in turn already did to NeXT). OS partnerships with IBM for OS/2, etc, etc. Each time it's like Microsoft happens to be walking down the street all innocent and they stop by to compliment you on your bicycle, next thing they ask to take it for a ride then either take it from you or get someone else to make an identical on and mass produce them on you. They rarely go all out and buy your time or company outright just throw enough money to get your attention then try to grab as much as possible before the place burns to the ground. No matter what Nokia gets in trade from their deal with Microsoft it won't be worth their time.

The only funny thing about Microsoft is that they only sell meaningful quantities if they are the only one on the shelf. No matter what it is. They get so used to buying the shelves and the stores that when you put a Microsoft product next to another people constantly seem to choose the latter as we see with the Kin, Zune and myrads of other devices aside from the Xbox360, which is in a market that anyone can really get into provided they have deep enough pockets to pay off the development houses. So when MS moves into an already established market that already has a few big players it's going to be interesting to see how they fair, pass the popcorn. I will admit though if they come out with something with good hardware that I can wipe and use like a PC I might leave my iPhone behind ;)

I'm not sure if adding up the capacity of every hard drive sold for the past 10-15 years somehow equates to each one being filled with some sort of information or knowledge.

This guy from netgear talks but he should remember that this is Steve's invention let him do what he wants with it. So you have two choices, one that is closed and one that is open tell this guy to buy the one he wants to buy. I've thought about the smartphone market and I can't convince myself anyone else would have butchered the thing from the beginning. Mind you I realize Apple did not invent the smartphone or pioneer it but he did do a great job of it while most others had their heads up their asses. Something in my gut tells me without Jobs kick starting this market the way he did we would have been stuck with programs that wouldn't of even loaded, some nasty monochrome screen and a brutal 16MHz chip powering the whole thing. What Jobs did do is make a consumer expect something out of their device and their purchase, they expect the developer to be in some way responsible for their programming, they expect some sort of fluid UI, they expect the device to do what is claimed rather than reliving 3gp type video and brutal audio. He might not stay the king but he has made confidence in a product and now a market that did not exist before him and for that at least I have to say thanks for bringing us this far.
