Yeah, it was a few weeks after. GameCube was released on November 18, 2001, and Pikmin wasn't released until December 3.

If I can remember correctly, Pikmin wasn't available at launch. Instead, I think it was available a few weeks later -- early December, maybe? I thought it came out the same time as Super Smash Brothers Melee.

There were some good titles at launch for GC, but certainly not many. I was duped into buying Crazy Taxi ... [shakes head]

  3. Make it like Tecmo on Ray Lewis To Break Madden Game Cover Curse? · · Score: 1

The cover art for my copy of Tecmo Super Bowl (Genesis) is a Cowboys quarterback - but I very much doubt that it's a player that really exists. If the Madden franchise wasn't so money-hungry, they could do that too, and this works in both the teams' favor and the franchise. They could pick a dominate team to grace the cover, selling copies of the game with only the risk of the similar SI curse.

In my opinion, the Tecmo series of football games were among the best ever.

  5. Re:It's a bit overhyped on Downloaded Music Gets More Expensive · · Score: 1

I don't know if I'd call it a dirty tactic all the time. Sometimes not all the songs are offered because they are interludes or something, and not even worth $.99 to download. But if they are offering full albums, I would like to think that the companies would have the decency of not ripping off the masses by cutting out a third of the album.

Then again, I've never actually paid for music, so it's difficult to say whether or not I'd feel ripped off in dealing with a partial album. The most I've ever downloaded are free songs thanks to the Pepsi/iTunes deal, which has really gotten me started on the legal downloading kick. If Apple doesn't sucuumb to the desires of the bigwigs in the business, iTMS should be all right. I wouldn't trust Wal-Mart for anything.

  6. Re:It's a bit overhyped on Downloaded Music Gets More Expensive · · Score: 1

Fair enough, but it should be expected for a multi-CD album to be priced more than $9.99. That's why I think that the new Outkast album should be seen in a different light anyway -- after all, it is pretty much two separate albums.

  7. It's a bit overhyped on Downloaded Music Gets More Expensive · · Score: 3, Insightful

From the article, it's stated that only one album is at $16.99. Sure, it's a popular album, but it's only one album. And although another handful or so are at the more expensive cost of twelve or thirteen dollars, the vast majority of the albums are at the ten dollar mark. The chances that consumers are going to like an increase in the price of singles is highly doubtful. If we have to, we would only grudgingly.

As for me, I continue to use my Pepsi caps to score free music. Pepsi, not Apple, has gotten my money for music.

  8. Re:Boy do I remember the slowdowns on Overclocking Your Sega Genesis/MegaDrive · · Score: 1

Yeah, that is hellish. I remember (and still see, as I have the system and game) moving hard to the left/right and knocking the opposing player all the way into the side at the very beginning of the race. It skips a bunch of frames, and the opposer just ends up on the edge of the screen. Way lame, but funny.

  9. Apple vs. Dell on Apple Tests Well in Education · · Score: 4, Interesting

It's funny how the article mentions Dell as the arch-nemesis of Apple in the education market, because at my district Dell took over for Apple. In my elementary days, you couldn't go around school without seeing an Apple in every classroom. But around the 5th grade, they switched to Dells. [tear]

It made sense at the time, seeing as how the Apple computers were around a decade old; archaic next to a computer with Windows 95. (GUI -- wow!) But looking at the school situation now, it's terrible. The schools have been overloaded with Dells -- there must be three thousand machines in my high school alone (a school of about 1,600 students) with several thousand more in the remainder of the district.

What's worse is that these machines are outdated for the most part. The district goes out every year and buys a new set of fifty to one hundred machines per school - the last was for a significant speed bump in the high school. Unfortunately, until this school year (my senior year) they had used Windows NT, meaning they had to go out and buy thousands of licenses for XP - a complete and utter waste of funds.

I work as an editor for the school newspaper, and it's the opinion of the editorial staff that the time to move back to Apple is now. It's been proven that the longevity of Macs outweighs any PC, and they are more reliable than a PC in terms of security. I won't even delve into the amount of time/money spent on Internet blocking, virus problems, networking issues, etc. But you know how tech people in school districts can be -- ignorant fools who don't know enough about what they're in charge of.

And believe me, the Tablet PC is not the only thing I have been looking at. I just wanted to get a popular opinion of the subject. What I've been drooling over the past few months have been Apple computers, such as the 20" iMac or the dual 2.0 GHz PowerMac G5.

It's not that I've only thought about tablets for moblie computing. I was also considering PowerBooks, but my main gripe is flexibility and power. I want a product that I can use in a mobile setting that won't be putting a wall between myself and the environment, which I think a laptop would.

Pen and paper are great tools - I use them all the time, and constantly have a pen behind my right ear. The only problem I have is the difficulty integrating technology and my paper ideas. I want something that can convert my scribblings to something I can use on the PC, and the tablet seems to be a decent choice.

Yeah, I've been leaning heavily towards Apple, but I can't mistake that there's something in being able to take notes right on the computer. They're probably working on something right now that has everything that people have been complaining about wants, but it's a while if Jobs decides to dig it up.

I was never really into the PDA thing, just because I never thought it was a worthwhile technology. I dislike carrying around small things (although I'm planning on getting an iPod mini and already have a digital camera) because they usually just are more of a hassle than they are worth.
