The fact that he had a fire in his AC tells me that all the fumes from his operation were starting to condense in there and then got activated by a spark in the fan motor.
So the fumes were making their way from the basement up 2 floors to a certain AC unit in a certain window ? I think he might have noticed that the entire house was filled with fumes, which is the only way your comment would make sense.
Self destructive behaviour ? It seems to be widely accepted that each animal has only a certain number of heartbeats, when that number is up - they die. So going to the gym, cycling to work and having sex all shorten your life more than not doing those things. Similarly, joining the military, freefall parachuting and mountaineering all can be shown to reduce your lifespan. So certain kinds of self destructive behaviour are seen as acceptable, but others are not. I think it's time to choose one way or another and get on with it, instead of persecuting those whose choice differs from yours. To get back on topic, I think that the reason kids are failing to learn from their mistakes is because there are no real consequences to that failure. No-one is "forced" to do anything and there is a medical explanation for everything. Hardly the incubation method for people with a strong sense of self reliance and responsibility. To use the military as an example, how many people have been thrown out of the army for having ADD ? How often do you see recruits on drill practice standing looking at a PDA, or wandering off to play with something shiny ? And if you don't, why ?
After reading the Last Hope website, I am confused as to why this is the "Last" Hope. they mentioned the hotel where they hold it was under threat, but then jumps straight to mentioning the Last Hope. Is this the last one, and why ?
I don't have a blu-ray or HD-DVD but I have an upconverting DVD player. Originally I connected it using a scart lead, but changed over to an HDMI lead later. The device takes a good minute to boot now, and refreshes the screen 4 or 5 times. Never a problem with the scart.
BUT, if you pay the foreign labour market a decent rate, then you might even build EXPORTS. That will help the trade deficit even more than just looking inwards. There is a world market, and you want companies to ignore it and pay more for the privilege. Twisting the subject slightly, I believe this is why the western countries (or "importing" countries) should bear some share of the cost of cleaning up chinese emissions. We are making the most benefit from this situation, and complaining about issues we are causing. Let's start treating this as one world - it is 2008 FFS. We can't infinitely get stuff cheaper as it always comes back and bites so factor it in now.
I agree. I used to work for Kyocera via a company called AVX. We made tantalum caps. They started moving the operation to San Salvador and other Central American states. Apparently, there would be a line outside the gate every morning, and if you wanted to work, you'd be near the front !
I don't know the situation here. Are NASA giving SpaceX any access to their files - at all ? I know they are supposed to be privately financed and new from the ground up, but surely if the aim is to get the cheapest, most efficient way to orbit, then they should consider sharing their extensive knowledge and experience. After all, they are looking to fly their missions using this gear. And if the knowledge is available, then ALL the companies in this race could be using it. I don't see why this endeavour should suffer due to stupid IP rules.
Insightful ? Fucking coward more like ! I quite often look at the cash in the till when in the supermarket - does that make me an armed robber ? There are countries in the world where 12 or 14 is the normal age for marriage and sex - does that make the whole country paedophiles ?
In what way was the teenager compelled to visit Myspace ? Did the adult abuser have some kind of external way of forcing the child to read the insults ? What kind of life would anybody have if all it takes is one anonymous person to cause you to kill yourself. I don't agree with bullying, but I don't agree with legislation to prevent it either. Bullying is a completely natural process whereby individuals find their place in the natural hierarchy of society. If you are ever to become a well rounded individual, you must at some stage learn to overcome the actions of others, and ignore hurtful words. I was bullied at school, and I mean bullied, not spoken about in a nasty way. Kicked in the head, punched until I needed stitches. This went on for 4 years, and I didn't kill myself. I went to the teachers to complain, and the response was something like "this is a boys school, you have to learn to look after yourself". Which was true. Just like real life, you can't rely on anyone else to do something you don't want to do yourself. My bullying stopped when I started karate training. Suddenly I had both a way of defending myself, AND the confidence to use it. The very next time somebody tried taking advantage of the boy who wouldn't fight back, they got a painful shock. And word spread quite rapidly, and strangely enough I actually got respect, both from the ones who had been bullies, and the ones who were yet to discover themselves. It seems to me that interference by the state, or other authorities, removes the incentive to look after yourself, and makes you more reliant on outside aid. Hence the current climate of fear and "protection". If you condition people to be weak by supporting them at all stages of development, then don't be surprised if they fall over when you turn your back for a second. IFAIK, the girl concerned never knew that the harassment was being done by an adult, so her reaction was solely due to words on a page, that she alone had the power not to read. Trying to make the adult responsible for the actions of a geographically remote person, by the use of non-compulsory text, seems to me to be an exercise in futility. All you will end up with is weaker people and a greater reliance on outside authorities to control your life. Unless this adult actively encouraged the girl to end her own life and gave her instructions on how to do so, then there really is no case to answer other than being an obnoxious asshole. And I don't think that's illegal yet. Would there be the same outcry if the bully had in fact been a teenage boy - fake name or not ? If not, then how can you justify this action. All that matters is what the girl believed.
that seems fine, but it only pays for the software. Who pays for the extra traffic over the network ? My HTC handheld has Internet connection sharing (WM5) supplied for free in the base install. But I have to pay to use that functionality - not MS, but my ISP, which is T-Mobile. I get 3 GB transfer per month for £10. I could get 1GB transfer free with my line rental, but understandably, they don't like you using that to feed a laptop. Not many people download huge files on a handheld, but a laptop is a different matter. HSDPA is nice to have available to a laptop, but FTP is blocked which is a bugger.
The recording industry as we know it has been going for around 60 years. And in all that time, all that has changed (that they have provided) is the packaging. Vinyl, 8 track, cassette, cd, all of which needed specialist manufacture. Now they have nothing left to offer the artist, except maybe an advance - which they won't get if there is no "product" to recoup the advance from. <Something deep here>
Microsoft can take Apache software and embrace and enhance, providing their own versions of the project's software with engineered incompatibility and no available source, just as they forced incompatibility into the Web by installing IE with every Windows upgrade.
As long as they don't call it Apache, there is no problem. You make your page work with the server it's on, not other peoples. If Microsoft think they can "take over" the internet by screwing with a version of apache that only Microsoft customers use, then let them try. We might get a bit of peace from the lusers. If those same MS customers want our money, they're the ones who'll have to conform.
Usage of IIS has been increasing dramatically since March 2006. Usage of the Apache HTTP Server has declined significantly beginning in that same month
Nice try, troll. According to the page you linked, Apaches usage has actually increased, as has IIS. Admittedly, Apaches market share has gone down, but that's not what you said. There are still 8.5 million more Apache servers (serving 24 million more sites according to Netcraft) than IIS. Totals for Active Servers Across All Domains June 2000 - June 2008
Not to mention that as the largest single OS vendor, Microsofts market share is bound to grow, as their users start discovering the internet. Apache users are largely self selecting in this respect.
Poor people. Yeah I can see those Ethiopians really suffering coz they can't take their 2 ton personal mobility device to the fields every day. I've been alive a fairly long time now, and I can honestly say, fuel has never got cheaper. Minor fluctuations, but the trend is upwards.
Stupidity needs oxygen.
Take that away, problem solved.

(one commenter earlier mentioned 90+ second to watch a movie, wtf???)
In the case of Stealth, yes I'm afraid so. The remote fell down the side of the couch, otherwise it would have been 45 seconds.

When the bad guys hijack a link to another page, they can just have their own ssl cert for their own page - no validity issues at all.
Yes, freemasonry requires a belief in god. But no, the invisible-guy-in-the-sky is not a good description. That belittles the concept.
Why does it have to be a fscking iPod ? And what legal problems exist in the places they would be used ?
And how do you learn "phonics" ? By reading ?
There has to be a person in the loop somewhere.
