Hmm....you just struck a thought for me... With Microsoft getting more and more into the hardware side of things is the name Micro'soft ' still appropriate?
I'm curious to see how Hackable the PS3 will be myself. We all know what kind of OS to expect on MS's machine, but we still have no clue what Sony's doing. There have been rumors that it will run Linux and there have also been rumors Sony is writing their own OS for it....so it could go either way at this point. If the PS3 comes with a Linux based OS, then just think about how easy it will be to take advantage of that? If Sony uses even just the Linux kernel and nothing else I'd expect it to be the system of choice for modders and hackers;)
" One day we complain that/. reports week-old news. The next we complain that it's reporting on rumors and unconfirmed reports. Honestly people!"
That's the problem with having millions of readers, you'll never make them all happy. That's why it's better to have multiple sites focused on specific issues and styles than lumping them all in one place like the current way it's ran...It's similar to the micro-kernel vs. monolithic debate..heh
I don't see how discussing Slashdot on Slashdot could ever be modded offtopic, but I'm sure you guys will...;)
Well, the HL2 panorama was done in Quicktime as well, so that can't really be the problem...I think it's the field of view probably. Even your panorama looks very fish eye like...
Well, first thing you could do is check out the annual Independent Games Festival, then there are a few game sites devoted to just indy games, like Game Tunnel, or for a good example games you could try something like Gish or Saga of Ryzom. And, if people started taking more notice and buying more, we'd see a lot more indy developers giving it a shot.
I personally welcome these big companies to licence and rehash the hell out of everything...Then the real gamers will support indie games. Just like the music and film industry, it's the unknowns who really come up with something new when all you get is crap from the mainstream.
Did you miss the first part where it says that it was copied pretty much verbatim from a press release MS sent them? Then again...I don't trust either sides' numbers...show me the games!
" Yeah, don't you hate it when companies pass stuff done on their development computers as the final results? Sooo.... How about those Xbox360 demos/games? Looking *great* for a system that is going to be released in about 7-months."
I don't know if I'm just misreading you or what, but I think you've got it backwards....
It's fairly impressive that the 360 stuff we've seen is running on alpha hardware that's got 2/3s the processing power and probably less than half the GPU in realtime compared to pre-rendered stuff that's just theoretical. I'm pretty surprised MS is being more open and honest about their performance than Sony...lol
From what was shown at E3, and not taking into account all the theoretical pre-rendered b/s... it looks like the machines are damn near equal except for in the realm of shaders. The PS3 looks to be able to do twice as much if not more there, and shaders will make a big difference in image fideltiy...but only graphics whores like me will probably notice...The average Joe won't be able to tell the difference between the two, and probably not the Revolution either....but that's yet to be seen. Sony's spreading just as much FUD and Hype with the Cell as MS.
I believe both the N64 and the Gamecube released for $250. Dreamcast came out at $200 though...
For some more comparison... Xbox came out at $300. Sega Saturn came out at $400 and the 3DO came out for $700. So with the exception of the Dreamcast, price can be a pretty big factor in a console's success, so I doubt the Xbox360 nor PS3 will break the $300 mark, but it is possible...I could easily see the Xbox360 coming out for $350-400 and the PS3 right at $500, but I seriously doubt it. Revolution will probably come out around 200-250.
This is the best panoramic stuff I've seen sadly enough... Now what I mean is that no matter where you turn the camera, everything stays in pretty good perspective, but if you've ever looked at real world ones they're always warped and awkward looking. If we can do this in a game, then how come we can't make a camera do the same thing? Oh well...
Does anyone else wonder what's going on in Bram's head right now? I thought they were trying to legitimize Bit Torrent as a perfectly legal tool for bandwidth sharing....but with the decentralized version and now this it's starting to look more and more just like another File Sharing system, and as the parent said, expect the **AA to have a field day with this...
I bought a quarterly IGN account just for E3 and I was pretty dissapointed of their coverage this year... I watched most of the stuff for free off Gamespot long before it was posted to IGN, although it was nice to see some of the stuff in high res. I hope they enjoyed my $8, cause they won't be seeing it again...
I would have been more impressed if Sony hadn't shown so many "to spec" videos as they call them, or as I like to call them, pre-rendered concept videos. The Unreal 2007, Tech Demos (ducks, leaves, doc oc,ff7) and maybe Fight Night were the only ones that were fairly real demonstrations of what the system can do. Everything else was just theoretical... And if you look back to the PS2's original tech demos they never got to the level they showed in some of them, like the Tekken demo for example...
Umm...did everyone miss the joke here...this one should be modded "Funny".
Nope...it's the long lost Windows 3.2

Hopefully this means we'll see more cross-platform games...

That's bullshit!
I guess a 1984-esque government wouldn't want their "law abiding citizens" to be able to use encryption, so it only makes sense...

Has THQ ever made a AAA title?

I'm not saying it's a bad idea... I just think it's not a good time yet. But then again...I guess there might not ever be one...
Unless the judge is uninformed and the **AA can put enough negative spin on it to convince him otherwise...
That guy sounded and looked a hell of a lot like Jack Black...heh

Google will offer their own version within a month. Start checking torrents.google.com ...lol
They also ripped off the SpiderMan movies' font...I wonder if that was on purpose since they showed so many Spiderman related demos?
Unreal 2007 and the tech demos (ducks,leaves,ff7,etc) are the only ones I believe were real time...maybe fight night too
