The Xbox 360 was about what I expected for the next generation... The PS3 surprised me with some of it's visuals, but that's mostly because it can do many more shaders at once than the 360 can. As far as the specs and what we were shown, I'd say the Cell isn't what it was hyped up to be, it's barely faster than MS's triple PPC. It was made clear that nVidia is way ahead of ATI these days as far as the GPUs went though...
Even after all the eye-candy and hype explosion, I'm still excited to see what the Revolution's games will look like. The Nintendo guys didn't seem to be too distressed at what they saw from the competition, and the ability to play every Nintendo game on a single console is pretty damn awesome. The Revolution was definitely easier on the eyes than the hideous PS3 and Xbox360 console designs.
If you look at alot of the command-line centric guys, then he was somewhat right... I'm just about the only guy in my entire lug who perfers to use a mouse.
I could care less who's manufacturing these chips if it meant they were going to a more open architechture like x86. If you could buy the parts and build your own Mac they'd be alot more appealing to people...
Whether or not people believe OSX to be open or not, Apple's hardware definitely isn't.
That's not class, that's overkill. If people really care, they can talk in a fake voice like some people do in old school D&D games. It's just an RPG...even if it's a video game you can still use a little bit of your imagination...And I'm pretty doubtful on MS allowing them to not have the voice chat if it's used in conjunction with Live.
Well, the Xbox 360 version is aimed at people who don't already have it for their PC. It's a different audience/market... People who have crappy video cards and whatnot, or people who aren't fans of gaming with their keyboard and mouse will welcome even a straight port... Hell, integrated voice chat would almost make it worthwhile by itself.
I wonder if we'll see other PC MMORPGs coming to the 360, like World of Warcraft or Guild Wars? I'm sure EQ2 will be coming out on PS3 at some point too...
I figure many people will be calling it just "The 360" or "360"...hell I've already done it a couple times myself.
PS. After last night's showing of Episode 3, your sig is no longer valid;)
Nintendo announced they'll have an internal flash memory storage capable of 512 MB. This doesn't sound like much, but most NES games are well under a megabyte and the largest N64 game was only 32MB. They'll also have standard SD memory card slots as well. It's not a harddrive, but I guess it'll have to do.
Just read over that, and it could sound a little hypocritical...so I just want to add that I could care less who has the best graphics, they'll all look good:)
I would agree...there's no way to really know till we some real games in person. But, from what I've seen so far I would say they're almost exactly equal except for the graphics card. If you look at the official PS3 specs, 1.8 out of that 2 teraflops are in the GPU. It looks like MS screwed themselves by ditching nVidia this go round... The PS3's shader capabilities are what will really make the difference.
I really wish Nintendo had told us more about the Revolution...don't count it out yet guys!
Very true... if both the Xbox360 and the PS3 go beyond the standard $300 price point to something like 4 or 5 hundred, and the Revolution comes out at around $200 that'll make a huge difference... it's one thing if there's $100 or less difference, like there was in this current generation, but multiple hundreds will turn heads.
I'd also like to add to one of your points. Microsoft and Sony always put the very best possible numbers they can. It's theoretical, and usually with just flat shaded polys and no ai or gameplay going on... As while Nintendo (just like last time) uses real world figures...they try to give a realistic impression of what it will be like, not theoretical like the other guys. Remember when they announced the Gamecube's specs and everyone was worried/disappointed, then it came out and it was much more powerful than people thought....the same thing will happen again.
Console power isn't really a concern for me with Nintendo. Their real hurdles are the average person's mindset and conception of their stuff and 3rd party support. Those are the only real problems they have to deal with. Still, Nintendo has probably already planned their system so that they can still remain profitable even at third place just like with the GC. Like the guy said at the conference: "Nintendo's here to stay"
It depends on how much they charge though... I think 99 cents for an NES game, $5 for an SNES game, and $10 for a N64 game sounds pretty reasonable to me...maybe a teeny bit more, but not much. I am curious though, do they plan on just having Nintendo 1st and 2nd party games, or the entire collection available? If I can't download Chrono Trigger and FF6 I'll be pissed...
I'd rather take the risk of some "hackery" that can install on just about any distro than rely on the very flawed repository system most distros use. Besides, if the local install of autopackage were configured to coexist and work together with the system level package manager it could work very very well. Unfortunately most distros are refusing to attempt this, even though it would be for the greater good of the entire Linux community. And so the only way around this problem is for a hack...

The G4 stuff was okay, but I wish they had spent more time showing us actual game footage rather than the hosts chatting about what they thought...
Well if I could buy my own Mac type parts, couldn't Dell and HP too? I think you've missed the point...
the store, not the player...
Maybe they should give it its own section...waittt....
When I see a headline that reads "iTunes to use a DRM free, open format" then maybe I'll give half a sh*t :P
If you look at alot of the command-line centric guys, then he was somewhat right... I'm just about the only guy in my entire lug who perfers to use a mouse.
I doubt they'd drop their PPC line, this will most likely just be a new addition if anything...
Maybe because the Cell has ended up to be all hype...

I think the GP was trying to make a joke...
What does Sony have to do with this? Playonline is a Square-Enix service.
Probably b/c the PS2 couldn't handle everquest's RAM requirements, and the harddrive not being very well spread.

That's funny...I'm working on a game currently with a $0 budget, so license fees are important to me.
