Not if you put it on the end that connects to the Xbox. And if it's this wireless/wired idea alot of people are throwing out, it could be detachable too.
Another good example is when I played Zelda 64: Ocarina, I missed out on alot of hidden stuff b/c it requires the "stone of agony"(item) and a rumble pack to alert you when you were near a hidden item. Rumble is good...I still don't think I've seen anyone use it as well as the first game to have it though, Starfox 64.
Wireless sounds great and all but I think I'd much rather just have one that comes with a 10' retractable cord. Wouldn't it be great to just hit a button on the cord and have the whole thing reel up for storage?
I would hope that they'd use something like 802.11 for their wireless....that way each controller has it's own internal IP...and you could have millions in the same room;)
You're not alone. I love the size of the original Xbox controllers' size...but, I'm not that fond of the button layout and d-pad. I think all consoles should start releasing different sized controllers...wouldn't it be hillarious to buy the Xbox 2 and hear the clerk as you "Do you want to super-size your controllers with that?";)
that would be cool to be able to plug your controller into the wall while you are playing it...that way you are only bound by your outlets, and most people have one near their couch;) I hope they put a battery life indicator on it like this one...
You really think b/c a few million people agree on something it's right? Have you seen the billboard music charts? More sales do not equal better. If you thought like that, then Madden football is the greatest game ever made (Definitely not!) and Bush actually deserved to stay president....
"Never underestimate the power of human stupidity"...
Exactly! Pick one or the other, but not both!
WoW is a great game... I played in the open beta, but I refuse to be ripped off like this reguardless of how good it may be.
I completely agree. If you don't want people "spawn camping" make it extremely random and unpredictable where and when they'll show up.
The problem with all these "gil farmers" (or gold farmers on other MMORPGS) is that the game's money is worthless. Unless there is a set number of coins in the world and once they're gone, they're gone...then the money means nothing. This is what makes things valuable in the real world... It'd be a bitch to program, but it would stop this kind of behavior entirely.
So, by that estimate that's $50,000,000 just from game sales (not even taking into account the limited edition $80 ones)...and then that's a steady $13,000,000 a month...or 195 million a year if they're all playing. So, in theory, if they sold a million copies, and everyone played for a year that would be almost 250 million dollars!!! That's a whole lot of money I'd say.... and last time I checked I don't think there's ever been a game that cost over even 10 million to make, and I seriously doubt their servers/bandwidth even costs a million a month...
(see above post*)
That's interesting... I wasn't aware that it was so stripped down, if what you are saying is correct. It claims to be a MMORPG from what I've seen...but Diablo definitely was not one.
Has Blizzard or any of the other MMORPG guys ever posted the actual cost of running such a service vs. how much money they are taking in on it? The gamers have to pay $50 ($80 for the "special edition") and then a $13 monthly fee, not to mention the expansion packs when they come out. With hundreds of thousands of people playing this game they are making hundreds of millions each year...and I seriously doubt it costs that much to run one of these games properly.
Maybe games like Guildwars can prove you don't have to rip your customers off to be successful?
"...I think Open Source games will be the killer app(s) that spark the begining of a PC gaming reniassance..."
I agree completely. I assume you are working on Motorsport...looks pretty nice;)
As far as the graphics go, it's already been shown with surveys that alot of casual/non-gamers can't even tell any difference between PS1 and PS2 games... how do they expect to justify the graphic difference between PS2 and PS3???...and the same goes for all the companies. My point is this though....if the casual gamers that have caused the marked to explode over the last few years can't tell much a difference between Xbox and Xbox2...then why would they even buy one as long as games keep coming out for regular old Xbox? This...is yet another reason that indy/open-source games will be taking off in a big way soon too;)
I think what people really mean, is for Linux distros to incorporate the few strengths of windows. I run both Linux and Windows, and after about a year of screwing around in Linux I'm finally getting to the point where I can use it more than Windows...and this is just the problem. Windows is not better because it works better....just about anyone will give you that. It's that it's easy to use. But, hopefully things like the linux desktop summit, freedesktop.org and LSB will bring us to the point where just about anyone can use Linux without having to find someone to help them get started;)
The other big issue people complain about is driver/hardware issues...but this is a chicken and the egg argument. You have to have enough users for hardware people to make proper drivers, but most users don't want to deal with the current state of linux do to lack of drivers. It's getting progressively better, but it's still much slower than it should be...
Maybe if distros start becoming more standards based and something like Autopackage takes off, things will speed up even more.
No...if it was communist, like you are implying it would be the only choice. It's just a standard, not a requirement. If someone could come up with something better, then it would take off and the standard would suffer...you just have to look at the standard itself as just another competitor....plus I seriously doubt both ATI and NVidia would just on board, lol:P
Well, most developers have the opinion that the game should be about more than just fighting. I tried EQ back when it first came out, and it was hack and slash. That is not a "role playing game"....that just an action game with RPG elements. What makes RPGs fun is story (which is hard to pull off in a massively multiplayer evironment) and getting to pretend you are someone else in a world not your own. No one ever played old-fashioned table top D&D just to level up or accumulate gold and items. It is this mentality that is making these games not as fun as they could be. The virtual economy is necissary for this virtual world to be about anything more than just hacking and slashing your way through the next dungeon.
WOW! That's a very good point I failed to make earlier. Yes, people giving newb characters gold and whatnot does often askew the game unfairly as well, But... it's harder to justify or implement the outlawing of something like that. Should we get rid of Guilds 'cause they make it unfair to single-player types? Nah... but, perhaps some sort of restrictions on how much gold can be given or what kind of items can be given by what class??? Very interesting....I will have to think on this alot more now....;)
Sorry for the rambling incoherent post:P

it would be a subnet IP, not an actual internet IP...lol

Actually Microsoft sold the USB convertors themselves so that people could use USB Keyboards with Phantasy Star Online...
;)
The Xbox controllers connect through a "modified" (read proprietary) version of USB too

"IANAEE"??? Holy crap man.... you people are going overboard with this abreviations...lol :P
The flash video format is handy since you dont' have to install any players or get codecs, but you can't full screen it.
Anybody want to rip it and convert it to Xvid/Vobis? Torrent?

How come this one hasn't been modded to +5 insightful yet?? If only you could mod the same places you post...

I think this guy was trying to be funny....if I had a couple mod points, that the way I would have rated it ;)
I doubt Stallman would stand for such a thing... remember that Gnome is part of the gnu project.

I still to this day find Dreamcast's hardware to be superior to the PS2.
