Please dear lord, bring back futurama for all that is holy. IM TALKING TO THAT GOD THAT IS PART NEBULA. The one with the really cool tones as he talks. (mmmm, peacefull tones...):D PLEASEEEEEEE!!!
(of note, a screensaver (or background) with the nebula higher power from the show would be cool. Could even beep with little messages ever so often)
I can see this being a boon for our local University of Alaska. In one or two of their librarys they have archived years of Alaskan recordings. Much of our states history spans the years when radio, recordings and TV were starting up. These recordings also need saved and this Tech will probably greatly help them. They have the same problem with recordings that are to old to run under a reader.:D
My freind ended up doing a sociology test to earn points for his soch class. He ended up having the department giving him one glass of this like liquide caffene (no idea what it consisted of) that was somewhere between 20-40 cups of coffee in one shot. They then observed him for like four or five hours.
When they sent him home he was like Fry from futurama. He cleaned his, his roomates, and a neighbors room. He did all his homework for all his classes for two months, and he wrote every realative he ever had. He did much more than that, but I can't remember. I remember going over after quite a few hours after he got back and just watching him bounce off the walls. ENTERTAINING!
NO MAN, 100 cups of coffee according to the show Futurama (episode: three hundred big boys) will actually set you in a super hightened and mobile state where you move at super human speed and awareness. Thus you can save people.

Where do we get a job ap for that? Forced to look at naked women all day. THE HORROR!!!
Not a development job, but I have been multiple times of my life up to my chest in fish blood in a fish hold. Some poor slob (me) has to gut all the fish we catch. Glad Im in engineering now. Blech!
You know, if you get it so that this has WIFI, can join up with your home computer, and set it as a second monitor, this could rock. What you would get is you could chug away at the computer, then grab the tablet and go lie down on couch or bed and sit and read web pages on your browser of the main computer. COOL. Then when you get up, you could transition back to the main computer without having to reopen everything.
First what degrees are these people moving to??? Are they migrating away from engineering to be math majors or art majors?
Second even with outsourcing there is still a buyers market for engineering right now due to all the baby boomers retiring. I heard that the outsourcing of engineering is due lack of replacements.
Thirdly, most engineers and computer programers should be prepared to enter a WORLD market and be willing and able to adapt as necessary.
P.S. one of the biggest threats of competition is engineers from India trained over here at colleges in the US. At my college most of the undergrad program is americans, and most of the grad program is INDIAN. Wild huh.
You know, I like how easy it is to make a presentation in PP, but I can see keying the voice commands to each page of a presentation. That way all you have to do is say that keyword (or sentence) of the speach and you can change to that slide automatically. You can make it work for your speach style.
"Now we move on to the LCD PRODUCTION LINE to see how we have..." ("LCD PRODUCTION LINE" would move the presentation to that slide, plus you could have that on a note card and use it as a reminder of what to talk about)
The heck with two monitors. Its time for the three monitor revolution! The third one can be a portable tablet type that can be SNUGGLED with at night.:D The hell with human relationships I say!
Now if only my bank account would agree with my theory...
What else do linux users use for streaming that could be part of the 37%?
Also, the problem with ogg is that many streaming sites don't offer it. Many players don't offer it either. I have a Creative Muvo NX and it unfortunately doesn't do ogg. sigh...
Hey couldn't the President enact a tariff or tax on all spam origionating outside the country? Define exactly what spam is (un-solicited advertisements maybe?), track where it is coming from, and either tax them directly or bill the government. Heh, we could pay off some of the debt we owe. Say $1-$5 per email. That might slow things down or at least pay off some of our debt.
Well, when I was in they didn't have a negative position about that. To be honest back then they preached acceptance of everyone.
I don't know how much they preach now in a negative way, but if it is like it was back then they mostly tried to promote good thoughts and being honorable people.
Hey there is always 4-H, Modeling clubs, etc... that still have good values to give off. Don't let em get you down, just move on to those that are good.
Actually my parents made sure I was in many sports and team events. Swimming, Karate, Gymnastics, Running, Basketball, Football, Hockey, etc... Just being around so many people forces good interpersonal skills.
It is best at first if it is an EVERYONE PLAYS team so the kid also gets a chance to learn the sport as well.
OH YEAH, don't forget the great non-athletic team/social groups. Such as Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownines, and Girl Scouts. Not only do they teach interpersonal skills, but they also try to build integrity and values in young ones.
Shouldn't we form a "coalition of students for rules and quality of textbooks"? Then set out a few rules for the university system of textbooks.
1. Textbooks cannot be updated of a time less than FIVE years unless SIGNIFICANT change has happened in the subject matter. Would have to pass coalition review. (no more updating the books with only a few different colors and different pictures)
2. Regardless if a CD came with the book, copies and updates to any software sold with book should be online. Seeing as software gets updated pretty often.
3. Irregularities to a books printing (corrections) shall be corrected and publishded online. This shall also be in an easy to print fashion such as PDF. (no more updating the book for a few typos)
4. A rating system for books shall be created that will rate various aspects of the books and particular benefits and problems with regards to the programs they are teaching. This shall be by students, teachers, and the coalition. Teachers would be pressured to pick high rated books. (I find that many of the books in my engineering studies are really heady and not really practical to most engineers. Or have little discussion of the industry (real world) that applys)
5. The coalition would also try to help lead the way in electronic textbooks and testing of various tablets and other tools in their implementation. They would also pressure the book companies to offer electronic versions for sale (with obvious copy protections of course). (Hey, most people say that some sort of electronic tablet may be the way of the future in classrooms but I have seen little testing of such new devices at the colleges I have been around)
6. Pressure book companies to put out less glitsy or useless add-ons, and more usefull teaching aids. Then put pressure on professors to make good use of such tools. (How many times have I been in a class that had a books with either a bunch of useless extras that I had to pay for that werent used, or usefull addons that the professor didn't use (which would have GREATLY helped teach the subject matter)? TONS OF TIMES!)
7. In a slightly off kilter note, the coalition should pressure to put notes to the class online. Including sylabus and important course material. Behind a password if need be.
8. Support, editing, and comments by coalition for such free online textbooks as listed in origional/. article.
If such a group exists as the coalition, they shure don't seem to be very effective. Every student in college should know who they are if they were effective. "Here is your student registration AND membership card in the Coalition of students for kick ass textbooks"
Do they have to find a way to make everything crappy?
Would be interesting thought to see how a lawyer would bring up IM stuff in court. "Ahem, well you see while the defendant was BS'in with his buddy he said some rather disturbing things, like how Jlo is mega hot, and how ACDC is the best band in the world. DAMMING I SAY!!!"
I always thought that it was high time to revisit the concept of airship design. After the Hindinberg killed off all progression in the topic, we need to compare to the science that has shown up in the last 70+ years.
How about fly by wire, computer aided controls, new airodynamic theorys, and new materials that have come out? Remember many of the new Lawn Dart jets would be nearly uncontrolable if it wasn't for the aid of computers.
Imagine an air ship that can be set to automatically sit in one spot despite what the wind is doing. cool.

~FOX, you will re-instate futurama! NOW!~

If a note is lower than the 20Hz, can you feel it? If so, that might make it usefull in a stadium to EXPERIENCE the sound.
How do we get them to add it to the Slashdot Polls? Oh add the fourth option,
/. are beyond me.
-Don't get Futurama, thus am stuck in 1999.
Second poll,
Do you watch Farscape?
-Yes
-NO
-Marry me Aeryn/Crichton!
-I hate or don't get Farscape and thus all things
Yeah, but no new shows. I wish cartoon network would hire on Gruening to create new ones.

Bring that show back DAMMIT!!!

Depends on how long it takes to go up and down right? Heck most airliners are usually going up and down for much of the flight.
If the glide distance down was long say over 15 minuites, it might not be so bad.
