TOM's HARDWARE GUIDE Reviews Games On Linux Friday December 31, @12:23AM Pending
Geee...how does this happen, I submitted first.....:P Oh well I'll have to settlle with the satisfaction that it was posted.:)
I'm sure if commercials were left intact the companies might be a little more hesitant in trying to restrict downloads. Maybe they'll enjoy a little bit of a free advertising or be able to charge the advertisers more...hey greater audience you pay more .:P And leave it up to us to curtail the commercials on our own.:)
Stop complaining, you all chose to buy the game, and I'm almost sure most of you would do it again. As long as you support this type of behavior financially they'll keep doing it.
P.S.Ignorances is only allowed to excuse 1/10th of the law. Your still punished for the 9/10ths.
Anyone who uses this oughtta have their accounts closed, this is misuse of a good public service. Your are destroying for the rest of us. Of course it seems people have been destorying things for the rest of us for the last couple millenia.....I guess things never change... Some people are just plain incompetent. I suppose they'll be the ones complaining when googlebegins exercising their rights to close the accounts.:)
Let's just remember (let me ephasize these words) most ex-members who persecute the church tend to be those who have themselves violated the covenants they agreed to live by in the church and were cast out for not repenting and obeying the covenants they agreed to live by (others may call thse people hypocrite), I just see these people as angry and ashamed of themselves, so they blame someone else for their problems. I note there are some who leave the church simply because they do not wish to live accordingly to the doctrine of the church, but they tend not to persecute the church. In fact lds church meetinghouses are designed to withstand many forms of disaster and are designated as emergency shelters by FEMA and their Canadian counterparts.
Let's note the widely published record of the church of providing aid which comes from the membership of the church to North America and the World in crisis situations. Is that being cheap? Now if a company decides to use Open Office to reduce costs, are they being cheap? Or is the LDS church the only organizationt that can be viewed as cheap?
Let's also note a Canadian Court ruling cover by c|net at this link: http://news.com.com/2100-1027-5182641.html and the original decision by the copyright board of Canada by c|net here: http://news.com.com/2100-1025_3-5121479.html, if anyone has the original links of the legal writ of these decision please post them. Thank you.
Too bad, I for one though am not interested in paying for radio though. But I do like my Knaotix LIV HDD Installer CD als has a side benefit of being a Live CD. www.kanotix.com if anyone is interested.
Because most linux users don't replace their hardware every few years. They keep using it for 10+ years and even then they relegate it as a firewall box.:)
Uh what planet are you from, I'm from www.google.com and my SB Live 5.1 works great using Debian SID. IN fact I used Kanotix LIVE CD which is designed for installation to hdd but retains the live cd feature, it's at www.kanotix.com.
"If I did that I would have no time for the kids and the wife and no time for work and no time for school and no time to take care of my household responsibility"
>... and no time to learn how to write proper >English
Lemme rephrase just for you;
If I viewed every single show I would have no time for my wife, kids, work, and school. In addition I would have no time for household responsibility.
It would help if basic cable wasn't polluted with garbage too......and you can't pick and choose individual channels! Fact of life, cable companies package them up in groups. So you get garbage with every package.
How hard well ggg if you haven't noticed there are hundreds of programs on TV, how am I supposed to watch every TV show out there to know if it has inappropiate content. If I did that I would have no time for the kids and the wife and no time for work and no time for school and no time to take care of my household responsibility. I should not be forced to immodestly dressed women and neither should my kids, we should not be forced to listen to crude talk that in the business world is considered very unprofessional. When I say forced I mean not know that it's coming in a show or movie before hand, inorder to know this we have to watch the show first. Personally I rather not have to subject myself to this garbage. Furthermore, if all movies or tvshows provided options to tune this garbage out I would be all for it, however the media (TV and Movie industry give us as a people no CHOICE), therefore until the rest of the public against it get off their butts and fight back like I do, I'll support the FCC regulating it. For now I will have to tell my kids no tv for the most part and let their friends tell them their parents are weird cause I won't let them watch half naked cursing, smoking, and drug addicts men and women on TV.
P.S. It's always nice to sit down with the family and watch a movie, but these days make it a little hard to do. Especially when the ratings don't give enough information about the shows.
You know I barely got past the first few line and didn't want to read any more of that garbage.
1) The SINS of the fathers are not upon the SINS of the children
2) FACT, there is NOT one country that does not have at least one citizen or soldier that does not commit atrocious acts during the time of war.
3) War CAN, not that it will necessarily, bring out the worst all in people This includes the peace loving Canada.
4) WAR is necessary......there is no middle ground, you think it's right to let people kill defenceless women and children. Okay let's bring your wife into it? Or your mother or your children? Would you not want someone to protect them from someone who has cut off your hands? Sorry but this is the reality that will occur to your descendants if we do nothing to preserve our freedoms.
5) I saw the WEAPONS of MASS DESTRUCTION reason as a pretense used by the United States to goto war becase it was what most countries politicians could agree on.
6) Stop categorizing ALL Americans in the same POT, I think they call that discrimination or racism if you take action on it.
7) The people who turnout to vote in the United States elect the Goverment in hope that it will do the best for the people that is in the BEST interest of America --- NOTE for themselves, a Country is there to protect their people not the rest of the world.
8)The Republic of the United States of America, the U.S. wqas meant to be a republic yes democracy and rights exist. Do they exist IRAQ? Do they exist for the mother who was shot in the street for street for begging for food from a Soldier in IRAQ during Saddams reign? -- A friend of mine visiting IRAQ during Saddams regime watched this happen in IRAQ on a corner of a street. Could that happen in America? Yes, possibly, would the person be PUNISHED? YES! Would it happen again? MOST likely not. Britain, Germany, France enjoy similar freedoms the U.S. enjoys. Why you might ask becase young sons and fathers died in the second world war to preserve our freedoms from the likes of Hitler's rule. Did those soldiers know about the Jewish genocide occuring? NO, the horrifying details came out after the war ended. It made the soldiers who discoverd the atrocities sick and mentally and pyschologically scarred for life. Those soldiers sons fathers and daughters from all countries made the ultimate sacrifice, they gave up who they are to preserve our freedoms. It is our fundemental and moral responsibility to protect the lives of defenseless men, women, and children. For whatever reason the U.S. invaded IRAQ the end result is that the Iraqi people have a chance at a better life.
9)The Muslim States CONTROL the Oil, not the U.S., it's called OPEC, I don't see oil & gas prices decreasing now that the U.S. invaded Iraq? Prove to me that it has, last time I looked at a Gas station, the prices were about a 120% increase from where they were in 1998?
10) Hmm U.S didn't invade Iraq till 2002, I'm sure it's all about the OIL
Signed a citizen of Canada
The difference here is you don't have a single stereo company strongarming the dealer by contract to only sell there brand of stereo. The dealer has a choice, because of the diversity of various stereos about made by different companies. He is able to tell the stereo company that is trying to strongarm him to get lost. Now MS has 90%+ market share, computer dealer tells MS to get lost, customer says I want WindowsXP cause that's what I know, dealer says I don't sell windows. Customers says fine I'll go elsewhere. Well you get the idea now......company goes bankrupt. A company has virtually no choice in this matter. Now all the/.ers gotta do is get ppl used to linux, and then maybe the dealers will have a chance to tell MS to get lost.:/ I for am in business to make money and I'm sure that's the purpose of all businesses.
Let's get serious and make them accountable for what they print. Get them to print a retraction. Everyone e-mail them, and RUN to the lawyers. let's fight fire with fire. The Hot Shots do it as they fight forest fires why can't we. Ooops, wait I forgot their the bully and I'm the little Jehovah boy who fought back, oooh no I'm being fined $332 and 90 days probation......oooh well fat chance.
hehe.......you reminded me of an old show I can't think of the name we watched it in science class in elementary... Explorer might be the name, a bunch of KIDS rocket into space with their little craft.:)
Did you not read a scientific press release of research that showed that enough water exists underneath the ground to flood the entire Earth? In fact I think it appeared on ABCNews, not sure if it showed up on slashdot. And then me look at a the most accurate translation of the scriptures of which most other Bibles are based on which is the King James Version assembled from amongst various other books during the council of the Nicene Creed., in it while explaining the flood it mentions that water came from the ground.
So before you discredit without any research and base it on your sole OPINION, study the facts. And make not assumptions and final conclusions. Science is about openmindness.
There are the few that make it a unpleasant experience for many newbies to debian or linux in the mailing lists and more particularily the irc.freenode.net #debian channel. And when the newbies attempt to defend themselves some of the operators just kick them or ban them because they don't like their opinion. I give that some of these newbies can expres their opinion rudely, but usually that's a human response to being treated like garbage. Many in other distros view the #debian channel as very unhelpful to newbies. Sure their argument to read the man pages may be their way of being helpful, however the man pages are very hard to understand in some cases and fail to give real life examples of usages of their command structure, and fail to explain what each option does. Perhaps eliminating condescending attitudes and improvement of the documentation in the man pages would serve to overcome these negatives of the debian distribution. you say he is basing this on a mailing list that is renowned for that behavior, well I say the debian community needs to clean house and and ensure such people in mailing lists are no longer welcoemd in the community. Also note that I understand that the man pages is not a debian specific issue, but it is a debian attitude among some to rudely tell newbies to read the man pages.
P.S. Just because some one else has a low self esteem does give them the right to abuse others emotional/mentally.
This is a copy of an e-mail I sent as an "Letter to the Editor" to Information Week.com, I hope Fred reads and recieves it. As for the/.'ers, feel free to critique it, I was hoping Mr. Langa woud print a retraction or rebuttal to clear up the misunderstanding. It's my vain attempt to help the media to see the true light.:)
I hope your humble enough to accept this critique of the article, maybe even print a part two in an effort to clear up some of these points.
What I believe to be errors in the article
:
First mistake in your article:
What Sound Card did you use?
Second Mistake:
Sound card hardware makers write drivers their hardware to run on Microsoft OS (BIG MONEY)
Third Mistake:
Linux has to write drivers for the Sound Card hardware makers, see the difference, as most Sound Card Manufacturers lack desire or will to release any of their specs of their drivers on their hardware thus making it difficult for linux developers to write drivers for linux to make the sound cards work.
Forth Mistake:
Let me name a few Distributions of linux that autoconfigures sound cards for you that I know of, I'm sure others could add to it.
1) Suse
2) Xandros
3) Knoppix (Free)
4) Kanotix (Free)
Lets see I use the Kanotix distro (Free), and voila I have 5.1 Surround sound:)
Logic, heh, sometimes I think that all these links to the New York Times means that the NY Times is a advertising client of slashdot. Every time I want to know more about he article I have to register with NY Times.....so I just don't and move on.... But anyways just an observation, probably without any truth to it.......but I'm sure I'll elicit some comments about it.:)
FYI: NASA Scientists have concluded that if there was or is water then some form of life must have existed as proven by fossilized examples found on Mars.

Well I have no problem with the idea buying music online, it's putting it into practice. I want all songs available online so I can buy them. Forget the local stores and cd's and such. As for your comments for Canada and it's avid views........those views Canada has are a reflection of the majority in Ontario and everyone East, witht he exception of liberal Vancouver..... Unfortunately us Albertans are fighting a losing battle....their taken away our guns.:)
