I was getting Tiger Directs catalogues before I ever got my first PC. They seemed to support Linux well, and even had a Linux keyboard with a Tux key instead the Windows key. When I finally was in a position to buy from them, I found their web site had a huge " We recommend Microsoft Windows" sign and the Linux stuff was no where to be found. I did finally buy some stuff from them but wasn't thrilled by the 2 week shipping time.

Very interesting, but they don't say how the oil could possibly be created. My personal theory is that sulphur eating bacteria is producing the oils deep underground. It has also been recently discovered that bacteria in the ocean floor is creating methane, but I have forgotten what bacteria eats. I was surprised at the amount of natural oil seepage that enters the ocean.

I am only 45 miles from one city but the hills really block the analog signal, while the digital gets through. It might be worth your while to try next year when most will be digital.

It sounds like you install had a problem with the X config, you can try startx after logging in but it is probably an unsupported video card. So far I have found that SUSE will install on anything. There is a free version available.

Better yet have them install a Linux distro. I am sending all my old clients Xandros, as I do not have the patience to deal with MS Windows anymore. Then their maintenance consists of backups and udates only. I will also include Mplayer so they can watch any vidio that comes there way.

Maybe this is just another public misconception, like when people call crackers, hackers. We all should know that a statement like "I caught a worm from an email sent by a hacker" makes no sense at all.

I have windows on hda1 and Fedora was on sda10. I couldn't even test it because it kept claiming that I removed the network card and that I had better replace it, ( Core 1 said the same thing) SuSE9.0 on the other hand made a grub boot disk and I boot from that. I guess I don't want to upgrade to the 2.6 kernel soon or maybe never with my hardware.

I'm not sure of the exact release dates, but Windows XP can 'switch user' which is effectively the same, and OS X 10.3 added a very similar but much quicker version in its recent release. Also, both versions are much more secure than X's multiple desktops feature, which doesn't require a password to switch to a different desktop.

You don't understand, Linux can run multiple x sessions of multiple users at the same time. For example, on Mandrake 9.2, my daughter is playing games on the computer in her room, and at the same time I am in the living room, on a win98 box using VNC to access the computer she is using to view my email and browse the web. I am actually using the same computer she is using at the same time, with complete kde desktop that is displayed on the win98 box. It is pretty slow but the computer only has a celeron 500Mhz which runs with a 66Mhz bus. XP probably wouldn't even run on this computer without being cut to the bone.

I was surprised with the joystick UI, I got a analog digital joystick that you have to hand stands to get to work in windows to work perfectly, I couldn't even get Mandrake to see the joystick port. SuSE also has a lot of hot plug support, a lot of this is broken in the 2.6 kernel but when 9.1 comes out this will hopefully be fixed.
