Steve Gibson thought it was a backdoor because he believed that the flaw really only existed since NT 5.0, when it seemed to him the code was changed. Unless you believe NT 5.x is not network ready then your first paragraph is untrue. This point was not made in the article. The transcript of what Steve actually said. I am not saying I think he was correct but just setting the record straight
I have found, that the reason most peaple cannot understand, is becouse they do not want to learn. Ask them and they will asnwer truthfully. I tell them when you stop learning you start dieing.
Film is dying, and will soon be deader than vinyl records are now.
Really, then those new vinyl records are just my imagination
There will always be a need for film, and if need be photographers will just make there own, like when it all began.
Install the Webmin tarball instead,
At install you can create a unique user name and password that will still have root power.
Then you can set a unique port for Webmin acsess.
This way any cracker would have to figure out a port, a user-name, and a password.
Use Flashblock to stop flash objects. There is a button you can click to enable what you want. You can also use Fasterfox which includes a flash popup blocker.
The exact opposite was the reason I stopped using SUSE. I hated that I had to use KDE to do certain things. To me KDE is a busy mess that reminds me of all the reasons why I don't use Microsoft Windows.
I use Ubuntu now just for it's great working Gnome. I do miss YaST but I am learning a lot using the command line and editing config files.
BTW, anyone have a good recovery utility for a fubar'd EXT3 drive?
Have you tried Knoppix? It seems to be able handle problem drives better than most OS's.
Last resort, get the Ultimate boot CD full version and run the program Recovery is possible.
So,
When you parents call, have a bookmark setup so they can find their IP address.
Then SSH into their box, and install the software. Much easier than phone tech support.
Looks like Avant is a Microsoft Windows only application. What does it have to do with a browser like FireFox which runs on almost all operating systems. It doesn't even run on Windows 95, which is my only Microsoft Windows install. I run Firefox on that too.
They would use tap code.
Seems to me it is much better suited as there is only tap and no tap unlike Morse cope which is dot, dash and silence.

No, X86 is the common term for the 80368 to present day 80686 processors. Any package or binary labled i368 will run on a 368 processor and up. Commonly you are seeing packages marked i586(Pentium) and i686 (Pentium pro to Pentium 4). These packages will not run on lower processors.
For a better discription, especially for newbies watch This . I cannot figure out how to Coral catch the video so try to only watch the 1 min version to save their server.
There is a discussion about this in the comments of the article, and the conclusion was made the drives should be good for constant use for only 70+ years.
Defragmenting would be needed by the file system and the operating system used. If you use any Windows OS on any Microsoft file system then the answer is yes, otherwise you won't need to defrag as the competing OS's don't have that limitation.

The question is why did they have the info on their hard drive. A Hacker finding holes doesn't need to have the data, they just need to be able to see it.

How is it going to install without you knowing,
that is unless you are running as Root/Admin,
and who in their right mind would do that?

Have you forgotten aboutVNC?
It is the only way to go unless you are not using X windows then that is what ssh is for.
Well that one did crash FF1.0.6 on Ubuntu I'm glad session saver didn't save the tab.
So, when will Windows be ready?
WalMart runs the worlds biggest Exchange install. They and msft are quite proud of it, actually...
Thanks, another reason to never shop there.
