you could also run x11 and a lightweight window manager and kill off aqua. but... yeah, my solution to a slow running mac is either netBSD or WDL (depending on the age of the machine. those old macintosh classic's run BSD, old g3's run YDL pretty well, but kde is only a touch faster than aqua - icewm is a better solution, i've found.
oddly enough, i've never had a problem with apple's laptop service. i've had to send in white dual usb ibooks (there are 3 in my family) 5 or six times for sundry repairs (backlight failure, mainboard problems, blah blah blah). its nevre taken more than 4 days to get back, from dropping it at the apple store to having it either delivered to me or arrive at the apple store. best time was3 days.
I don't consider those to be innovatoins. Continued improvements in miniaturization and reduced power consumption lead to most of those advances, and the web itself taking off the last. None, however, are particularly innovative - its whats happened across the entire industry.
that depends heavily on how they're doing a mixdown. for all we know, it could just have a drum track and rhthm guitar. or it could be nearly completed, with just some leveling to adjust. me? i don't like U2, so it matters to me not one jot nor tittle.
Don't you mean Red Book? Yellow book is data, orange book is cd-r/w, white is vcd, and blue is multisession audio/data cds. You could well mean blue, since blue book is becoming more and more common, but i dislike the move away from plain old reliable red book.
alienate? you ( in this case, maybe they, but you is shorter) buy an ipod knowing the features it has. apple is not obligated to provide any new features to you - you bought an ipod, with foo features, which are update as problems occur - but you don't get feature bar when it show sup in the next years model.
the screen appears to be monochrome - its just happens to be tinted blue (my friend is convinced its an OLED, i'm willing to wait a few days to find out). and i don't really see the trouble with remembering that, say, the top of the wheel is play, the sides are back and forward... memorizing where the buttons are is no differant (depending on how they implement the clickwheel - but who can say since we don't know anything yet)
on the other hand, clamshells break regularly - and the popular motorolla line of clamshells i've seen has an antena that ops off regularly, and breaks at the hinge periodically. on the other hand, i've checked my nokia non-flip phone 50 feet, bounced it off a brick wall and a car (all in one go) and the replacable plastic case was a bit scratched, but no actual damage to the phone.
the ones i dssected tended to taken apart at the dump without proper tools, simply to salvage the hard drives. since i'd never worked on them, and haven't since, i never quite got around to learning how to open them without a hammer and a pry bar.
none of the imac's are fun to deal with, sadly. my favorite case is probably the MDD g4 tower... if only the g5 had more drive cages...
ah, yes. i should have remembered the g3 one - they're a bitch to take apart, and i've done it all too often. and the very very old ones with the 7 inch (or so) screen. but we're talking about the modern lines of macs, which, for most purposes, started with the blue g3 (imho).

if i recall, offering to sell a domain for any amount can get turned around on the original seller - remember the mike row soft debacle?
try a windowless room - you can use a window as a microphone pickup if you're so inclined.
hmm... lack of a paycheck until they start being profitable?
Since everyone can just piss away employment like that.
not reading the full article is one thing, but only reading the headline? come on, man -- what do you think this is? slashdot?
come on - you can't show sex or drugs - at least leave us our ultraviolence. or regulate the news channels.
I have - but only on a corporate wide plan - their individual tech support is utter shite.

sloughing heat in the vacuum of space versus... idiotic comparisons. wacky, man. just wacky.

or, more likely, its not actually a voice mailbox. its just a simple prerecorded message that then cuts the connection.

i hate apple. they left the stereo out of my itunes express. how am i going to play my music?

if i remember, very few cards are supported on mac (although you can flash a pc version over to mac, if the proper firmware actually exists)

to those in the know, what the hell was ekkoBSD?
200 dollar price drop IF YOU BUY A POWERBOOK. which, as far as savings go, utter shite.

since i want to spend another 500 bucks and void my warranty on a machine i already paid 3 grand for?
umm... i was saying that it was going to be an all-in-one. but, yeah, i agree with you and all that.
