    Some people just look at price alone and nothing else. Try doing video editing an a PC laptop and you'll understand why people get Mac laptops for video work.

    I have to agree. There are MANY reasons for patching kernels, not the least of which is making sure that security and stability issues are taken care of in a supposedly stable and secure kernel. It happens more than you think.

    I think anyone with a clue would hold onto Google stock. The main reason they have to file is because they have too much money coming in, and too many assets. They don't need to go IPO, but would probably be well-advised to.

    I have a question - what if someone is abusing your trademark in Google ads - for instance - you search for "Xandros" and up comes LINDOWS in the paid ad on the right hand side? Search for SuSE and what comes up? LINDOWS.

    Those are blatantly WRONG - and need to be stopped. Oh yeah, on top of that, the "sale" is for "TODAY ONLY!!!!" and it runs EVERY DAY. Oh yeah, obligatory Simpsons insertion - they are using UNLICENSED Simpsons graphics. And lest I forget, they are using unlicensed GOOGLE graphics! I've telephoned Fox, and I've e-mailed Xandros, SuSE and Google about the infringement.

    How do you flood the pipe there?

    EXACTLY. You probably only like bleeding edge changes and the ability to do things yourself if they're not provided. Oh wait, that's Debian. Which can be as stable or as unstable as you like. :-) Your choice, but you have to put the effort in.

    Actually people lie for a third reason, to GENERATE conflict. Michael Robertson (more info in the link in my sig) lies to generate publicity surrounding his company. Darl lies because it will artificially inflate his stock price, by getting him noticed. Robertson lies because it gets him sympathy if he says his company is being beat up by Microsoft. Darl didn't DARE sue Linus or Linux (in any concrete form), he went after IBM, which has deep pockets.

    Anyway, just wanted to clarify that some people lie to GENERATE conflict.

    The problem with coming out with the faster processors is that they are running a crappy OS on them. Use Debian, and there's no NEED to have all that processing power, since it's got a customized kernel for your machine.

    I run Debian, and I am writing a script that will DDOS sco.com, not just the name this time, but the IP address as well. Windows script kiddies have slower DDOS attacks, as they have to run on windoze boxes.

    Lindows is an unstable bastardization of Debian. It's insecure, forcing you to run as root.

    If Comcast goes back up, and Disney goes back down, then the offer may indeed be considered again. Remember, Comcast is an entertainment giant, and they can stick ads in every single one of their paper bills. This could get more people going to Disney theme parks, Disney films, Disney everything, for the same price that Comcast currently mails its paper bills to customers.

    The problem with not voting is that you get lulled into complacency, rather than the only downside being that your candidate didn't get elected. It's VERY important to vote, even if your person doesn't win. Staying up on the state of affairs is what keeps politicians on their toes, no matter where you are.

    Mickey Mouse gets more write-in votes every year. Studies show that by 2050, Mickey will have enough write-in votes to be elected. Strange wonder that electronic voting systems don't allow write-in votes! It ASSURES that the candidate that the software^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hvoter chooses will actually get elected.

    RH is making the migration (not complete yet) to paid only software. They mine Fedora for new code, but have discontinued retail distribution, period.

    Debian is the most secure OS out there, and it has the reputation for it. Some of the operating systems out there pervert Debian, like Lindows, and ruin its name.

    As long as you run apt-get instead of click-n-die. That has to be the worst bastardization of Debian and Linux I've ever seen in my entire life.

    With Michael Robertson claiming that Lindows is as secure as Debian, yet the default install is to run as root, I think that taking a look at the editorial in my sig is highly worth it. Lindows has besmirched the name of Debian for far too long now, and needs to be stopped.

    You can measure the commercial rollout of Debian for home use by the number of spinoffs and their success rates. The two distros with the largest market share are Xandros and Lindows. Xandros is a killer spinoff. Lindows needs to be killed.

    Finally Debian is getting its due! RedHat is fastest, as the first post noted, but shrinking. Debian's security is LEGENDARY. Spinoffs of Debian such as Xandros only help to entrench Debian as a secure OS.

    ANYONE making a secure and stable Linux distro deserves props. Debian leads the pack. Xandros puts out a different GUI. Props to them all.
