On another note, I'd like to see other distros do what Red Hat is doing to Fedora's boot screen: Using X resolutions for the startup. Damn, that looks nice! Thought it would be even nicer if the pointless resolution change between bootup and main X server startup was eliminated (it's usually the same res anyway).
Ah you must be refering to the bootsplash and framebuffer stuff. Its pretty simple to add this yourself if you know how to patch and recompile kernels. Just do a google/linux search for bootsplash and framebuffer.

"We're spending more money patching and fixing than buying software," said Gilligan. It's not unusual for patching of vulnerabilities to take months to complete, he said.
This right here is down-right scary, and it appears to me that obviously promises(future employment? money?) were made and the people that are in charge of this USAF deployment do not hold that branch of the military's best interests at heart. Yet that hasn't stopped Windows from being ready for "desktop primetime" huh? There will always be dumb-witted joe users that will get burnt from these lame social engineering scams regardless of the OS. These very well could be the same people who will be taking advantage of offline as well. Linux is already on the desktop. It has been ready for primetime for awhile. Syllable will have to go through the same uphill battles on the desktop that Linux has already gone through up to this point(sans lawsuit?).
